YMMV / Farzar

YMMV for Farzar.

YMMV

  • Adorkable: Fichael is a delightfully dim-witted, chunky little gap-toothed dork and he can look awful cute, especially in flashback scenes to him as a baby or a little kid.
  • Angst? What Angst?: At the end of "Baz, Bangs, & Brains", Clitaurus learns that Bazarack blew up his house and mutilated his children and is rightfully pissed at him for it. In an attempt to make Clitaurus forgive him, Bazarack clones Xylah, kills either her or the clone (he can't remember which one it was), and then wears the skin of the deceased Xylak as a disguise to convince Clitaurus to vote for him. This, of course, leaves Clitautus boiling with fury at the end of the episode and staring daggers at him for what he did. In the very next episode, Clitaurus is right back to being subservient and loyal to Bazarack, apparently having forgotten everything he did to him just last week.
  • Anvilicious: Several episodes have underlying political messages and subtlety is not their forte. Such episodes include:
    • "Robot Revolution", which discusses slavery with robots as stand-ins for black people. Robots not only lacked the same rights as human beings but were also completely subservient to humans and were forced to do everything they told them to. Scootie rebelled against this and tried to abolish robot slavery, until he became classified as a half-breed human by technicality and got his human rights again. At that point, he completely betrayed his robot friends and sent them all back to the slave farm.
    • "The Adventures of Daddy O'Baggins", which discusses Mexican immigration, with aliens as stand-ins for Mexicans and Renzo as a stand-in for Trump. Basically, the message here was thatwe should be more accepting of Mexican immigrants since there are so many great Mexican people out there who can really add to American society.
    • The same episode also did a sideplot about abortion, where Renzo gets pregnant and suffers from the consequences of having to carry the baby to term, since he illegalized abortion in Dome City, himself, learning a very valuable pro-choice lesson.
    • "Ozner the Great and Powerful", which is just another episode satirizing the negative aspects of organized religion, (i.e. scamming people out of their money, promoting homophobia against same-sex couples, religious leaders making up "rules" that only really benefit themselves, etc.)
    • The overall premise of the show seems to allude to Native American genocide and European colonization of The Americas, with Farzar once being the home planet of Bazarack and the aliens before Renzo and his human army came and took it over, pushing them off their land, ravaging their resources, and killing their people. The anvil is all about how Caucasians need to give back to the Native Americans and help them to get the rights they deserve.
  • Awesome Music: The Rock and Roll Squid song, "All Night Long" from "Robot Revolution" was short but sweet, as it had an excellent jam to it and really emulated the mood of the songs from the music genre it was parodying.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: In "War and Peace", Bazarack assembled a team of all the greatest alien leaders from across the galaxy to help him fight in the war on Farzar. All of these aliens had been seen at least once before, albeit in very short and forgettable appearances, (i.e. President Banana and Medium Bob Dookie), except for a random new guy named Leafion V, who only appeared in the intro scene and didn't even show up again, even during the war.
  • Catharsis Factor: Val finally breaking away from being the submissive nice girl and calling out Fichael for being such a disrespectful, classless, and misogynistic boyfriend to her and finally dumping him was very cathartic and the exact kind of rude awakening Fichael needed.
  • Crazy Is Cool: Barry Barris is one of the more admirable characters of the show, partly because he's just completely off his nut. He's a former award-winning scientist who went through a few mental breakdowns in the past, which have brought him to become a mad scientist, who makes twisted, fucked up sex machines such as his chick magnet (a giant magnet that he uses for kidnapping and raping women) and a sexual assault rifle (a military artillery gun that shoots out dildos).
  • Creepy Cute: Zobo is a genocidal alien behemoth but he looks just like a cute little knockoff Pikachu.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Like its predecessors, Farzar has tons of nauseating, gut-wrenching sex humor, bound only by the practically non-existent Netflix censors.
  • Draco in Leather Pants: Zobo is depicted in fanart as being an adorable little creature, by fans who are drawing more from his faux-cutie pie persona, than his true colors as a psychopathic space alien, responsible for destroying millions of planets and killing all of their inhabitants.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Little Bob Dookie literally only had two lines of dialogue and less than a full 20 seconds of screentime before he was blown to pieces but many fans really like him and wish he would have been a recurring character.
    • Gorpzorp is also admired by fans for being a genius scientist, who gets mistreated and underutilized by his idiot boss, who doesn't recognize his talent. His charisma is mostly supported by David Kaye's portrayal of him, giving him such a big personality and an eloquent vocabulary.
    • Eternahead only appeared in one episode but people love how Maurice LaMarche just Adam Wests as himself when voicing him and puts so much drama and emphasis into voicing such stupid dialogue.
  • Fan Nickname: Many have called the show "Paradise PD in Space".
  • Hollywood Homely: Billy is generally regarded by others as a disgusting, mutated freak. However, in actuality, he's a pretty cool-looking creature, with probably one of the neatest character designs on the show.
    • Bazarack always insults Xylah for being ugly and hideous. However, when she appeared on screen for the first time, she turned out to be a thin and curvy, hot-looking alien chick. Since Bazarack is the only one who ever dishes out these insults and Bazarack has poor judgment, this can mostly just be considered him being an idiot or just a needlessly rude person.
Bazarack: Sorry I drank all the wine. I had to drink it all on the way here so I could look at your fat, ugly face.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: With the addition of Farzar to the medium of adult animation, people have accused Roger Black and Waco O'Guin of "Pulling a MacFarlane", by making the same show three times, as most elements of this show are retreads of elements from Brickleberry and Paradise PD.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: Some people just watch the show to see David Kaye's performance as Barry Barris, a talented actor voicing a breakout fan-favorite character, likewise some people tune in to watch Lance Reddick gloriously ham it up as Farzar and enjoy seeing him playing a full-on villain for once.
  • Moe: Zobo is intended to be this, for being a tiny fuzzy little pink punny rabbit.
  • Moral Event Horizon: Renzo proves to have crossed this line long before the series began, by colonizing the land of Bazarack and his people. However, he crossed the line again in "War and Peace", when he betrayed his own son in an attempt to have Bazarack and his people killed.
Bazarack: See, what did I tell you? [singing] Your daddy is an evil asshole!
  • Most Wonderful Sound: For what it's worth, the chorus singing the title at the end of the intro is actually pretty epic.
    Chorus: FARZAAAAAAAAAR!
  • Nausea Fuel: It's another show made by Roger Black and Waco O'Guin, so expect a lot of it.
  • No Yay: Fichael and Val's relationship is seen as this by many, considering how disgusting, antisocial, and misogynistic Fichael is toward her sometimes. Such examples include him sexually assaulting her on their first date, asking her and her sister inappropriate questions about butt-wiping, and making weird comments about cutting the eyes out of women in magazines. However, the worst thing he did out of all of this was in "War and Peace", when he excluded her from fighting in The War on Dome City, despite her qualifications, just because she was a girl. He told her that she already had the job of his girlfriend and all he needed her to do was look pretty and knit him a scarf.
  • The Scrappy: Sal the Taint is constantly being punched up by the writers as their attempt at a breakout character but most fans just find him annoying and stupid, since his only role in the show is to waste screen time and bring down the plot with his long fourth-wall breaking tangents about how great of a character he is.
Sal: That's right, everybody! Everyone's fan-favorite, breakout star character, Sal the Taint is back!
  • Shallow Parody: In "The Great and Powerful Ozner", a few cutaway gags mocked The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel for being full of diarrhea jokes and human-on-spider sex scenes. This does not sound like anything that would happen in the show and it leads one to wonder if the writers had even seen the show in question or if they just did this because they felt it to be a classy case of "punching up" to shit all over a critically acclaimed series that has won so many primetime Emmys for its outstanding writing and phenomenal cast.
  • Shock Fatigue: By this point it's obvious Black and O'Guin are less about telling jokes and more about trying to see what they can get away with, and the sci-fi setting means reality no longer acts as a limitation on what they can do. Unsurprisingly, no one was interested, and the series died after one season.
  • Spiritual Successor: To Brickleberry and Paradise PD.
  • Tainted by the Preview: As soon as the trailer came out, all of the show's Limited Animation and gross-out humor was put on display to everyone before they even started watching it.
    • Many claim that the joke that sealed the show's fate was a line in the trailer made by a sassy kid, asking the meta-humor question "Is this gunna be more like Futurama or Rick and Morty?", which just made the show feel like it was so desperate to avoid criticism, that it needed to insult itself before anyone else could. It didn't help that this joke ended up being one of the first jokes told in the series premiere.
Renzo: It's gunna be more like shut the fuck up!
  • They Copied It, So It Sucks!: Even some of the biggest fans of the show think it's cheap and lazy to see how Farzar recycles a lot of stock animation from Paradise PD as well as ripping off a few jokes from Brickleberry, as it goes to show just how half-assed and low-effort the show can be.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: Little Bob Dookie, a little dancing piece of shit with a cowboy hat, could have been a hilarious side character and breakout star but they killed him off in the very same scene where he was introduced. Later on in the same episode, we were introduced to his father, Big Bob Dookie, which also could have worked out pretty decently but just like before, he was killed instantly.
  • Unexpected Character: Miss Whiskers makes a surprise cameo in "The Great and Powerful Ozner" as one of the many "pussies" inside of Billy's body.
Miss Whiskers: That's right. I'm in both shows now! Let's say I got froze or some shit.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Fichael was likely supposed to be seen as the "Kevin" of this series, seeing all the sympathetic moments we get with him. However, unlike Kevin, Fichael, while not being entirely villainous, is kind of a selfish asshole and misogynistic prick toward his girlfriend, forcing her into uncomfortable situations (mostly involving sex) and making overtly demeaning comments about her gender. He's likely supposed to be written as a innocently insenseitive misogynist but something about the way he acts, when doing such things, just kind of makes him look like he knows how much of a dick he's being and he either enjoys it out just doesn't care.
    • Another thing that makes Fichael so unlikeable is how much of a hypocrite he is. He calls out his father for being a corrupt leader, who abuses his robot servants, even though he treats his robot servants exactly the same way, even Scootie, who's supposed to be his friend.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: A rare win for the show's animation is in the intro, where all of the characters are animated with more fluidity, depth, and dimension than they do in the actual show.
  • The Woobie: Fichael is one of the only non-asshole characters of the show and as such, he's the one who gets dunked on the most. His father is a corrupt dictator, who treats him about as badly as he treats his city, his best friend is an undependable asshole, his girlfriend secretly hates his guts and hatefully dumped him at the end of Season 1, and he leads a team of rebellious rabblerousers, who unsuccessfully fight to protect Dome City from evil aliens. Oh, and if that wasn't bad enough he also got his arm chopped off in the Season 1 finale and had it replaced with a tiny little tree branch. This injury was no one-off gag. It appears this is gunna stick.
