Go To

Camp Lazlo: Where's Lazlo? is a 2007 American animated television special based on the animated series Camp Lazlo. It is an hour-long movie created by Joe Murray. The plot centers around Raj telling the story of how he, Lazlo, and Clam first met.

This TV special provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Scoutmaster Lumpus gets Edward's name wrong such as calling him "Alvin" and "Woodward" and Edward corrects him by his actual name.
  • All-Loving Hero: Lazlo is very open-minded and idealistic and even makes friends with a bear who had a pine one stuck in his nose.
  • Attention Whore: Edward tries to get Lazlo out of Camp Kidney so he can have all the attention and respect from the campers.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The bear named "Fluffy" is shown to be this to the other campers, he only becomes friends with Lazlo, Raj and Clam while he dislikes the other campers, even Scoutmaster Lumpus and Slinkman.
  • Big Bad: Edward. He attempts to get Lazlo and his friends out of Camp Kidney and lies about trying to save Lazlo from the bear but failed and takes full control of Camp Kidney.
  • Big "NO!": Edward yells this when the campers want him to fend off the bear.
  • Blatant Lies: Edward lies to the other campers about how he tried to "save" Lazlo and "fended" off Fluffy but the bear mauled him. This was proven a lie because A: he was scared of the bear in the first place, and B: he said it was a "black" bear when it was brown and it caused Raj and Clam to discover Edward's lie and that Lazlo could possibly be still alive, and soon Fluffy comes back to Camp Kidney and Edward quickly gets scared by it.
  • Break the Cutie: Raj and Clam suffer this as they cry that Lazlo is missing before and after Raj tells the story of how the trio met.
  • Break the Haughty: Edward suffers this when he lied about fighting the bear and is later forced to fight the bear and cries as he gets cornered by the bear in great fear and after he pulls the pinecones out of his nose, he runs off screaming for his mother and is last seen holding on to a tree.
  • The Bully: Edward is this towards Raj and Clam when they come to Camp Kidney.
  • But Now I Must Go: Fluffy returns to the forest after having the pinecones pulled out of his nose by Edward.
  • Butt-Monkey: Scoutmaster Lumpus suffers misfortunes from the Jelly Cabin's fun activities.
  • Changed My Mind, Kid: Lazlo refuses to come back to Camp Kidney, but Raj convinces him how much they mean to Lazlo, and when they feel like they've given up hope on him, Lazlo comes back.
  • Continuity Snarl: Played with. Since this special chronologically takes place before the rest of the series, Raj should still be scared of swimming at this point, and it's even acknowledged when he, Lazlo and Clam catapult their inner tube into the lake. But in the least, Raj handwaves it when he joyfully declares he enjoys swimming with his new friends despite his hydrophobia.
  • Defrosting Ice King: Raj and Clam start off as rather pessimistic and unfriendly, but when Lazlo showed them the meaning of having fun, they become more nice and idealistic.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Edward lies about trying to "save" Lazlo from Fluffy but failing, but forgets the fact that he was scared from his first encounter from the bear and Lazlo brought the bear to Camp Kidney and he said that the bear was "black" instead of brown which makes Raj and Clam discover the truth about him. This bites him hard in the end when he realizes that he would eventually have to fend off the bear when it came back.
  • Dirty Coward:
    • Scoutmaster Lumpus is afraid of getting into trouble with Commander Hoo-Ha because the Jelly Bean trio is missing and fears that he'll lose his job and avoids contacting him by ripping the phone cords out of the wall.
    • Even Edward becomes scared that he actually has to fight the bear to save Camp Kidney and immediately refuses, and tries to abandon the campers by running from the bear, exposing him as a coward.
Samson: Everyone in the bear hunter's cabin, he'll protect us!
Everyone: THE BEAR HUNTER WILL SAVE US!!! (everyone runs in the cabin where they beg Edward to fight the bear).
Samson: Yeah, come on bear hunter, what are you gonna do!?
(The bear appears behind Edward outside).
Edward: EVERY SCOUT FOR HIMSELF! (Edward runs outside screaming and running from the bear who chases after him).
  • Downer Beginning: Raj and Clam cry as the episode opens due to Lazlo's absence and retell the story of how they first met.
  • Driven by Envy: What eventually caused Edward to try and get rid of Lazlo.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: Ping-Pong's reaction to Dave when they saw Lazlo's ruined hat and thought that the bear "mauled" him and Dave says that it looked very grizzly and later says "No pun intended!".
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Lazlo, Raj, and Clam reunite again in Camp Kidney and became friends and everyone cheered for them.
  • Fake Ultimate Hero: Edward lies about fending off the bear when it "devoured" Lazlo despite him encountering the bear at first and was scared by it, but was exposed when he the bear came back to Camp Kidney and he was forced to fight it, but was too scared to do so. He at least pulled the pinecones out of his nose, but still.
Skip: That doesn't sound very much like a bear hunter.
  • Fatal Flaw: Edward's boasting and arrogance is what causes him to almost be eaten by the bear.
  • Gang of Bullies: Edward, Chip, Skip, Samson, Dave and Ping-Pong appear as this in the beginning when Raj and Clam come to Camp Kidney.
  • Gentle Giant: Fluffy is this towards Lazlo, and even Raj and Clam, but not to the others.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Edward gets extremely jealous of Lazlo, Raj, and Clam when their activities are more fun than his and planned to get rid of them for it.
  • How We Got Here: The movie starts off with Raj and Clam crying over Lazlo leaving and the episode flashes back as Raj tells the story (again) of how he, Lazlo and Clam came to Camp Kidney.
  • It's All About Me: Both Scoutmaster Lumpus and Edward despise Lazlo and both show no concern for him as Lumpus is more concerned with getting in trouble with Commander Hoo-Ha instead of Lazlo's safety while Edward cares more about being the greatest in camp and lies about Lazlo being "eaten" by the bear.
  • Jerkass:
    • Scoutmaster Lumpus is this when he openly dislikes Lazlo and isn't concerned about his being lost, only about getting in trouble with Commander Hoo-Ha.
    • Edward is shown to be a cruel bully towards Raj and Clam when they came to Camp Kidney and he is also shown to dislike Lazlo for his free-spirited nature and comes up with a plan to get him out of Camp Kidney and tries to get him in trouble that he left Camp Kidney and lies that he "tried to save" Lazlo from the bear to earn all the respect he desires.
    • Clam was this before Lazlo came along, as he was angry, bratty, and aggressive, for some unknown reason.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: While Raj was being a bit of a douche, he does make a valid point that nature is not allowed in camp and Lazlo brought it with him to camp (actually the bear followed him to camp).
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Raj starts off as rather pessimistic and rude, but when Lazlo showed him how to have fun, he becomes more friendly.
    • Even Clam who was angry and hostile became nice and friendly when Lazlo became friends with him.
    • Edward, of all people when he pulled the pinecones out of Fluffy's nose.
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Edward gets forced to fend off Fluffy since he said he "tried to fend off the bear" and gets terrified of him.
  • I Want My Mommy!: Edward runs off while screaming "Mommy!" after pulling the pinecones out of Fluffy's nose due to being terrified of him.
  • Mistaken for Servant: In the flashback to their first day at Camp Kidney, Raj thinks Clam is the baggage boy and makes him sit on the top of the bus.
  • The Movie: A hour-long TV special based on the series.
  • Multi-Part Episode: While not an episode but a movie, it still has Part 1 and Part 2 of the hour-long movie.
  • Nature Tinkling: Skip tells Chip he has to go pee and Chip tells him to go to the bushes.
  • Nice Guy: Lazlo, he gives flies to Chip and Skip and he even makes friends with the bear he calls "Fluffy".
  • Nobody Calls Me "Chicken"!: Edward refuses to go out to get waffles for the others when they thought Fluffy was still outside, but he gets teased by Lumpus and the others that he's "too chicken", and he eventually goes outside, but the bear was no where to be found.
  • Origins Episode: This episode explains how the Jellies became friends, why Edward hates Lazlo so much, why flies follow Chip and Skip...
  • Pet the Dog: Edward pulling the pinecones out of Fluffy's nose, despite spending most of the movie being a manipulative, arrogant and selfish prick.
  • Rule of Three: Slinkman had to write 3 demerits for Lazlo, Raj, and Clam (which they're completely unaware about) since their fun wasn't allowed at camp.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!:
    • Despite being told not to leave camp, Lazlo chooses to help a bear in pain and allows him to follow him back to his cabin with Raj and Clam, which they try to calm the bear down.
    • Clam cares more about Lazlo than the rule of not leaving camp as he and a reluctant Raj set off in the night to find Lazlo.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Edward's only option is to to abandon the scouts when the bear came back to camp.
Edward: EVERY SCOUT FOR HIMSELF! (Edward runs outside screaming and running from the bear who chases after him).
  • Spotting the Thread: Clam is the first to recall that despite what Edward said, the bear from before was brown, not black. This leads to him and Raj realizing that Edward was lying about Lazlo being mauled by the bear, and that he's possibly still alive.
  • Squashed Flat:
    • Scoutmaster Lumpus gets squashed by Lazlo, Raj and Clam who were rolling on a big log.
    • Slinkman gets squashed too when he gets trampled by the other scouts running from the bear.
  • The Stool Pigeon: Edward tattles on Lazlo when he leaves his cabin in an attempt to get rid of him.
  • True Companions: Raj and Clam stick together to find Lazlo and bring him back to Camp Kidney.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Edward has one when his activities get outdone by Lazlo's and plotted to get rid of him.
  • Villains Want Mercy: Edward pleads the bear to not eat him when he corners him to a flagpole.
Edward: (crying) Please don't eat me Mr. Bear-sir! BWAA-HA-HA-HA-HAAAAA! Please, don't, eat, me!
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Raj gives this to Lazlo when he doesn't want to come back to Camp Kidney.
Raj: You know, Lazlo, when we first met you, Clam and I didn't know anything about camping. But you showed us what camping is: that it's having fun and adventure in nature. But we did not escape from camp dressed as totem poles, risk getting eaten by nature, ride a roller coaster with a weasel, and drink water without ice, because we wanted to be good campers! (sighs) We did it to find you. Because friends stick together.
Lazlo: Come on, Raj. It's me, Lazlo. I go where the wind takes me. Isn't it good to go where the wind blows?
Raj: Not when it blows off your friends.
  • Whole Episode Flashback: The two-part episode flashes back to how the Jelly Cabin trio came to camp.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Raj is shown to have a fear of rats.
  • Wicked Weasel: Raj and Clam encounter a weasel that acts crazy while controlling a flatcar and frightens them while taking them to the Beef Lumberjacks restaurant where Lazlo works.
