Ex-idol trainee Kiyu has lived his whole life adored by everyone for his good looks. But he dreams of ordinary high school life, so when he puts on glasses to blend in with his peers, he finds that making friends is a lot harder when you don’t have your looks to fall back on. Not to mention he’s also socially awkward, his new seatmate has a permanent scowl on her face, and his fans have tracked him down at his new school.

This Series provides examples of:

  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Honggu is easily distracted. Even when he's upset, he can get distracted and forget all about that with a present or a comment.

  • Attractiveness Discrimination: Lily and Kiyu experience both sides of this. People spread rumors about Lily and assume the worst of her. Kiyu worked from a young age as a model and actor because he was so attractive. People frequently approach him for ulterior motives.

  • Beautiful Tears: Anytime Kiyu cries.

  • Birds of a Feather: Ahn Kiyu and Cha Lily. Both are teenagers whose appearance has made it difficult for them to have friends and socialize in a normal way, making them quite clumsy individuals.

  • Bishie Sparkle: Taken up to eleven with Kiyu, to the point that when he's really happy, his Bishie sparkles are more like Bishie flash bangs.

  • Broken Ace: Kiyu is mind-bogglingly attractive, talented, and all set to debut. However, he decides to quit being an idol trainee because of his trauma.

  • Calling the Old Man Out: Kiyu towards his mom multiple times.

  • Chekhov's Hobby: One of Lily's main hobbies is sewing, which she uses to design costumes for one of her friend's performances. Kiyu and Lily's first official date is going shopping for sewing supplies in Seoul.

  • Chick Magnet: Kiyu taken up to eleven. When he is in public, he is almost always wearing a hat or hoodie to hide his face because he attracts so much attention otherwise.

  • Crazy Jealous Guy: Downplayed example: Kiyu starts thinking about how he wants Lily all to himself and he doesn't want anyone else to see her.

  • Crush Blush: Kiyu and Lily blush around and because of each other all the time.

  • Crush Filter: The way Kiyu views Lily is heavily influenced by how much he likes her.

  • Deliberate Under-Performance: Lily was admitted to high school first in her class, but she underperformed so that she would draw less attention to herself.

  • Doting Parent: Lily's dad adores her and talks constantly about how sweet and nice she is. Knowing that his daughter has no friends, he is delighted when Kiyu expresses his desire to be close to her. Later, when he finds out that Lily became friends with Kiyu and Honggu, he throws a party for her.

  • Eating Lunch Alone: Prior to Kiyu befriending Lily, she ate lunch alone for years. As a new student, Kiyu also ate lunch alone.

  • Everyone Can See It: Everyone around Kiyu can see how much he likes Lily, even if she's in denial. So much so that the whole school thought they were dating, even before the fake dating arc.

  • Fake Relationship: Kiyu starts out by asking Lily to be in a fake relationship with him because he feels insecure, but still wants to keep Lily in his life.

  • False Friend: There are several examples in this series. One example is the girls that try to befriend Kiyu because they know he is secretly attractive behind his glasses. One of these girls breaks Kiyu's glasses, which prevents Kiyu from living as a normal student.

  • First Love: Lily and Kiyu are each other's first loves.

  • Generational Trauma: Kiyu's mom is much plainer looking than her mother (Kiyu's grandmother). She has a lot of unresolved baggage about this, which led to things like unconsciously favoring Kiyu over his sister.

  • Hope Is Scary: Lily is used to being disappointed, judged, and rejected, so she has no hope that Kiyu feels the same way about her as she feels about him.

  • Humble Goal: Lily wants to have a career as a public official.

  • I Can't Believe a Guy Like You Would Notice Me: When Kiyu finally confesses to Lily, Lily's response is that it doesn't make sense that someone like Kiyu would like her.

  • I Just Want to Be Normal: This why Kiyu tries to hide his beauty when going to a new school.

  • It Runs in the Family: Kiyu and his little sister are both obsessed with Lily.

  • Love Epiphany: At first, Kiyu thought that he was just a fan of how cool Lily was. However, when Honggu brought up the idea of Kiyu and Lily dating, he realized that he wanted to date her.

  • Light/Darkness Juxtaposition: Kiyu is often blindingly bright while Lily has a dark cloud around her.

  • Literally Loving Thy Neighbor: Kiyu and Lily are neighbors and they sit next to each other.

  • Misunderstood Loner with a Heart of Gold: Lily and her dad both appear intimidating, but Lily is a model student and her dad is a florist who loves to cook and is extremely sentimental.

  • Mundane Luxury: Lily and Kiyu are excited to go to a snack bar near the school, while Honggu is weirded out by how excited they are to do something so normal.

  • Mutual Pining: Convinced that their love for each other is unrequited, Lily and Kiyu talk about their First Love with each other.

  • New Kid Stigma: When he first transferred to the school, no one approached Kiyu and he was very alone. Furthermore, people thought Kiyu was being bullied by Lily, so everyone avoided him.

  • Non-Verbal Miscommunication: Happens multiple times. One example is when Honggu thinks that Lily and Kiyu are on a date, and he reluctantly asks if he can join them. He tries to signal to Kiyu to reject him joining, but Kiyu thinks Honggu really wants to join them.

  • Oblivious to Love: Lily's deep insecurity leads her to purposefully ignoring all hints that Kiyu likes her as more than a friend.

  • Overdramatic Dating Commotion: Everyone is overdramatic about everything when it comes to Kiyu, but especially when it comes to the possibility of dating Kiyu (and him being off the market).

  • Parents Walk In at the Worst Time: Subverted. When Lily and Kiyu wake up together in his bedroom, Kiyu's mom knocks on the door but does not enter the room.

  • Please, Don't Leave Me: Justified. Lily spends several episodes avoiding Kiyu to help him make friends. He doesn't like that at all. In Episode 113, after Kiyu and Lily have confessed to each other, Lily is embarrassed by what she said about Kiyu to Kiyu. Kiyu says "No!" because he correctly guessed that she was going to ask that they spend anytime apart. "I'm used to having you not look at me, so that's just fine. But you can't physically distance yourself from me. I have separation anxiety!"

  • Pretty Boy: Kiyu.

  • Rescue Hug: Lily saves Kiyu from falling down the stairs.

  • Romantic Rain: Kiyu pretends to not have an umbrella so that he can share with Lily in the rain.

  • Romantic Wingman: What Honggu thinks he is.

  • Samaritan Relationship Starter: The class tries to get Kiyu to sing for them, but Lily notices that his distress and speaks up to stop them from pressuring him. Kiyu is smitten after that.

  • Single-Target Sexuality: Sexuality doesn't quite cover how Kiyu is towards Lily. Kiyu has barely expressed desire for anything in his life, aside from wanting to keep Lily near him.

  • She Is Not My Girlfriend: In Episode 56, Honggu explains that everyone thought Lily and Kiyu were dating already. In explaining that they were not dating, Lily and Kiyu ended up thinking that the other person didn't like them in the same way.

  • Shirtless Scene: After getting out of the shower, Kiyu sees that his friend Honggu is at the door and opens it, where he is embarrassed to see his crush Lily there as well.

  • Sleep Cute: In Episodes 125-127, Lily accidentally falls asleep in Kiyu's bed.

  • Stalking Is Funny if It Is Female After Male: Averted. When Kiyu's fangirls find out which school he attends, and wait for him outside for several days in a row, his fear is taken seriously. That the stalkers are two pretty girls does not give them sympathy points either.

  • Strong Family Resemblance: Kiyu inherited his maternal grandmother's beauty.

  • Tarnishing Their Own Beauty: downplayed. Kiyu wears thick glasses to hide his face and appear less attractive.

  • Tastes Like Friendship: When Kiyu was prejudiced against Lily and her dad because of rumors he heard at school, one of the reasons he softened towards them was that his grandmother told him he had been eating food cooked by Lily's dad.

  • Twice Shy: Kiyu doesn't realize that Lily likes him, and Lily as an Insecure Love Interest doesn't believe Kiyu would ever like her for real, so they're very shy about confessing.

  • Umbrella of Togetherness: When it's raining, Kiyu pretends that he forgot his umbrella so that he can walk home under an umbrella with Lily.

  • We Really Do Care: When Lily's childhood friend visits and is trying to tear her down, Lily's friends all reassure her that they value her and care about her, and are hurt that she would think otherwise.

  • What Does She See in Him?: Other students wonder why someone as beautiful as Kiyu is with someone as scary-looking as Lily.
