You are a young Pokemon Trainer that was recruited by the famed Professor Gingko to become her Research Assistant and help her in her research at the Paleon Region.

The Paleon Region is no ordinary Region. It is a remote biological preserve, teeming with Fossil Pokemon that have been resurrected from the dead and are now breathing and walking the Earth once again.

You will explore the region, encounter and capture Pokemon, some new and some familiar to you, and discover the mysteries as to why these ancient Pokemon went extinct long ago.

Pokemon Amber is a Pokémon fan videos created by Froopy Art. The first episode was released on 11 June 2022.

Tropes present in Pokemon Amber:

  • Abandoned Laboratory: Route 9 housed the original laboratory that Professor Ginkgo and Cycad used to work at. It's where the Spliced Starter Pokemon and Dominex are stored.
  • All the Other Reindeer: Downplayed. The Eevee are the only modern day Pokemon that exists in the Paleon Region. The sole reason for this is due to the special connection they have with the Paleon Region which allows them to gain new Evolutions. In fact, all Elite Four member possessed their own evolved Eevees.
  • All Your Powers Combined:
    • Eeveon, a Normal-Type evolution of Eevee is this, as it can change it's typing to the other Pokemon types.
    • Dominex is a Hybrid Monster that has the combined strengths of various Fossil Pokemon.
  • Apocalypse How: Class 0. The Paleon Region was destroyed by Spectkret, causing the extincition of all life on the island and it would have done it again had it not been your Trainer's interference.
  • Big Bad:
    • Spectkret was a destructive Pokemon that wiped out all life on the Paleon Region. It resurfaced once more in the present, taking control the likes of Professfor Ginkgo and later, your rival Trainer to help it be revived to restart the destruction of the Paleon Region once more.
    • The Hybrids, Venorex and Psyndorex are the main antagonists of the DLC, terrorizing all the Pokemon of Site B.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Many of the revived Bug-Type Fossil Pokemon are based on giant prehistoric insects like Millimarch, Rachnoon, Skaergion and Draneura.
  • Breaking Old Trends:
    • Instead of fighting Gym Leaders for badges, the Trainer has to fight and win against the head researchers to collect their access codes to unlock new routes.
    • While there is a Pokemon Centre, there won't be multiple of them across the region. Instead, the Trainer had to access a Poke Beacon which transports Pokemon to the centre.
    • Puzzles are more emphasized in this game, being added before the Gym Battles, to compensate for the very small number of Pokemon battles due to the In-Universe explanation of the lack of Pokemon Trainers to fight with in the region.
  • Crossover: Your main Trainer battles with professors that visit the Paleon Region to collect the access codes to finally unlock the remaining gates and learn more about the Paleon Region's history. Among them includes those from the The Kaskade Region, Mazah Region, Norcloh, Solah Region, Cornera Region, Jermansberg Region, Asone Region and Olympia Region.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Froopy Art explains it makes sense to have some of the Dinosaur-like Pokemon to have the Dragon Typing. This includes Spinozar, Hadratoot, a Carnotox and Primal Tyrantrum who has a Dragon/Fire-Typing.
  • Domesticated Dinosaurs: The entirety of Pokemon Amber revolves on catching and taming the Dinosaur-based Fossil Pokemon. All three of the Starter Pokemon are based on Dinosaurs.
  • Doofy Dodo: Dodoi. The researchers all agreed that the Dodoi went extinct due to their low intelligence. Though, a Trainer can at least teach it to follow simple commands.
  • Evil Mentor: At first, Professor Ginkgo is seemingly hell-bent on wiping out all life on the Paleon Region, even fighting you on multiple occasions. Then it's Subverted, as it's revealed Professor Ginkgo had been brainwashed by Spectkret.
  • Fossil Revival: All the Pokemon of the Paleon Region were cloned from their ancestor's fossil remains thanks to Mutaneo's life-giving slime.
  • Gentle Giant Sauropod: Primal Aurorus, Titanost and Rabirapa play this straight. Averted with Barribembe due to its territorial behavior.
  • Giant Flyer:
    • The regional bird, Kytike's final evolution, Qwattzulkey which is based on the real-life famous flying giant, Quetzalcoatlus.
    • Ironically, Primal Aerodactyl struggles to fly, most likely due to their Rock-Typing.
  • Good All Along: At first, Cycad and her Team Arc raid labs and steal the Fossil Pokemon seemingly for profit. It's later revealed that they are actually trying to save the Pokemon from Professor Gingko's plan to exterminate them.
  • Horse of a Different Color: The Trainer is given Ride-Signals which they use to call in the other researchers' Pokemon to be Ride Pokemon.
    • Ginkgo's Takashuru uses their electrical abilities to light in caves.
    • Bri's Lofteon lifts the Trainer on a harness, and transports them to their designated locations.
    • Beth's Therrislize allows to cut down barriers to allow easier routes to other locations.
    • Cycad gives the Trainer her Ride-Signal to summon her Laparcto to travel through the water.
  • Hybrid Monster: They were the first attempts to recreate the ancient Pokemon but instead, they became violent and unstable monsters that forced the researchers to put them into stasis. Your Trainer battled Dominex in the main game and then later battled the duo, Venomex and Psyndorex at Site B.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • The Trainer stopping Cycad allows Professor Ginkgo to collect the Legendary Shards to restore Spectkret.
    • The Trainer collected enough Pokemon data for the program E150 to be completed and revived Dominex, causing it to escape and destroying the old lab that it was housed in. Cycad was not amused upon learning that.
    • Mal's tampering with Site B's lab causes the highly unstable and dangerous Hybrid Pokemon to break free.
  • Our Cryptids Are More Mysterious: Chupabrije, Impainion and Barribembe are respectively based on the Chupacabra, Kappa, and the Mokele-Mbembe.
  • Primate Versus Reptile: Using ape-based Pokemon like those from the Panfeer line to fight the Pokemon based on Dinosaurs and prehistoric reptiles.
  • Raptor Attack:
    • Fleetwi and its later evolutions are based on feathered raptors while the spliced Fleetwi and later evolutions are based on the now debunked featherless raptors. The latter are more willing to ignore the commands of their Trainers.
    • Primal Archen and Archeops, while based on the Archaeopteryx also has inspirations from Microraptor.
    • Two Pokemon based on the Troodontidae line are Troazolt, a fully completed genetic clone of the upper half of Dracozolt and Arctozolt, and Trusetis.
  • Savage Spinosaurs: Downplayed for the starter Spinozar who while difficult to handle, can form a genuine bond with their Trainer. It's spliced counterpart on the other hand plays this straight!
  • Shout-Out: With Jurassic Park being the main inspiration for the game, there are a lot of references and nods made to it.
    • Several characters are inspired by those from the Jurassic Park franchise such as the main Trainers, Grant and Ellie being based on Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler and the assistant researcher, Mal being based on Ian Malcolm.
    • Pokemon Saillil, Primal Heliolisk and Heliulphur are based on the spitting Dilophosaurus from the movies and novels, with Primal Heliolisk having the dinosaur's signature neck frills.
    • Resineetle is based on the ambered mosquito.
    • The Team Arc grunts are based on Dennis Nedry as they are wearing Nedry's signature yellow rain coat and Hawaiian shirt for attire. In fact, the male grunts are modelled from Nedry.
    • The spliced Starter Pokemon are based on Bumpy the Ankylosaurus, Blue the Velociraptor and the Spinosaurus from Jurassic Park III.
    • The Hybrid Pokemon are directly based on the Hybrid Dinosaurs from the Jurassic World trilogy.
    • The additional island, Site B is based on Isla Sorna from The Lost World (1995).
  • Snowy Sabertooths: Primal Meowth will evolve into Primal Persina which bears resemblance to an ice/snow-like Smilodon.
  • Social Ornithopod: Hadratoot is commonly seen in herds and will uplift others with the music it makes from its instrument-like body.
  • Spinosaurus Versus T. rex:
    • If you evolved both your Saillils, original and spliced, to their evolved Spinozar stages, you can use them against Primal Tyrantrum like the one used by Elite Four member, Amy.
    • On the other hand, you can use Primal Tyrantrum against either your Rival's or Ginkgo's Spinozar if you had not picked Saillil as your Starter Pokemon.
  • Temper-Ceratops: The game has three in the form of Primal Bastiodon, Psittuft and Blacier. While the former two are intimidating but the latter tops them all due to its extreme mood swings, switching back-and-forth between docile and berseker rage.
  • Terrifying Tyrannosaur: Like their predecessors, the Primal versions of Tyrunt and Tyrantrum are this. Primal Tyrantrum's profile reveals that they rule over their territory by instilling fear onto Pokemon.
  • Tough Armored Dinosaur:
    • The Cactamo line, and their spliced variant are based on the Ankylosaurus but they also some of the most sweet-hearted Pokemon in the Paleon Region.
    • The Drakento are Stegosaurid like Pokemon with spikes along their backs and on their shoulders, like Kentrosaurus and Gigantspinosaurus. Though they are Dumb Dinos, they are prone to mindlessly swing around their spikes, that'll hit anyone that were unfortunate enough to be nearby.
  • Underground Monkey:
    • The Primal versions of the Fossil Pokemon are fully completed genetic clones, that removed the Rock-Typing from their genome. Despite a few tweaks to their appearances, they remain relatively the same.
      • Primal Kabuto and Kabutops went from having Rock/Water Typing to Bug/Water Typing.
      • Primal Omystar has a cone-like shell rather than the helix-spiraled shell, and they and their pre-evolved forms are a pure Water Type.

      • Both Primal Tyrunt and Tyrantrum display feathers unlike their other counterparts. Primal Tyrunt is a Dragon-Type while Primal Tyrantrum is a Dragon/Fire Type.
      • Both Primal Amaura and Primal Aurorus displayed antenna-like horns. Primal Amaura has their Rock-Typing replaced with the Electric-Typing and Primal Aurorus has both Electirc and Ice-Typing.
      • While Turtonator is a Fire/Dragon Type. it's Primal version is a full Dark-Type.
      • The Primal Dreepy-line have Dragon/Water Typing. Primal Dragapult are modelled after propellor planes rather than a stealth jet.
      • Primal Magikarp has a more intimidating design and are more aggressive compared to its modern counterpart, though they are unable to evolve into Gyarados.
      • Primal Genesect are more organic-looking than their modern counterpart's more mechanical designs.
      • The Primal forms of the Paldean Starter Pokemon have their Typing change. The Primal Sprigarrito line are Dark-Type, with its final evolved form gaining Psychic-Type. The Primal Fuecoco line are Ghost-Type and then it gains the Fairy-Typing after fully evolving. The Primal Quaxly line are Fighting-Type and then gaining the Flying-Typing.
