"Hey, you! Welcome... to the SMG3 Channel!"
"A story of loss, deletion and spicy memes. SMG3 seeks revenge as he attempts to overthrow SMG4 and his channel."
—Official description

SMG4 and SMG3 finally settle their rivalry...or do they?

The YouTube Arc is the fourth major SMG4 Story Arc, following The Anime Arc, and the first instalment in the SMG4 Cosmology Lore trilogy. It is followed by the Genesis Arc.

The arc's events explores SMG3's attempts to beat SMG4 once and for all. With a new crew, his own production company, and perhaps a universal YouTube remote capable of altering the very fabric of reality, he might just get his wish.

Main Episodes

The Arc provides examples of:

  • Arc Villain: At first, it seems to be Susan Wojcicki, the Jerkass C.E.O. of YouTube, but it's ultimately revealed to be SMG3. He creates the second iteration of his gang, filled with counterparts to SMG4's, and gets his hands on the YouTube Remote to destroy SMG4 and everything he stands for as payback for SMG4 destroying his studio. In fact, Susan is forced to team up with the Gang in the effort of stopping SMG3.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: In "Deleted.", nobody except Mario survives getting erased by SMG3's timeline meddling.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Susan and SMG3, but the latter comes out as the Arc Villain of the YouTube arc.
  • Break the Cutie: The YouTube Arc has done a number on Axol. Thanks to Mario abusing the power of the YouTube Remote, an Oof Button took him to the Internet Graveyard, where he spent five years—which in real time is only a few weeks. What's worse, Inkweaver was destroyed in the process, and Axol lost quite a bit of his sanity in his time there. He's mostly fine by the time his friends helped him remember who he was and escape, but his scar is still there, we have no confirmation that Inkweaver is fixed or can be fixed (or, if Axol has to make a new one from scratch, how long it would take), and he probably has PTSD from basically aging 5 years in a few weeks. Then we later find out that he still has Inkweaver, but it's only good for a bludgeon now.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: While SMG3 is understandably pissed about his studio being destroyed, erasing SMG4 and his cast from existence is definitely going overboard.
  • Dragged Off to Hell: The fate of anyone caught by the Oof Buttons summoned by the YouTube Remote, banished to a purgatory call the Internet Graveyard. This includes Axol, Luigi, Mario, and at the end of the Arc, SMG3.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: SMG3 is defeated and banished, the YouTube Remote is returned to its rightful owner, the Anti-cast dissolves, and Meggy even gets a new voice.
  • Evolving Credits: The new channel banner posted after "The Internet Graveyard" has everyone but Mario slowly replaced by SMG3's Gang every episode afterwards.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In "Mario Gets Woke," one of the pranks Mario does with the YouTube Remote is to make Meggy speak English and Japanese. At the end of the Arc, thanks to the remote, Meggy is given a permanent english voice.
    • In "The Internet Graveyard", Axol reveals that the titular location is where everything YouTube-related will ended up if it became "too irrelevant". Remind us how everything YouTube-related were sent there when SMG4 and the gang ended up there?
  • The Fourth Wall Will Not Protect You: During the usual announcements at the beginning of the video, the whole channel is feeling the effects of SMG3's meddling with the YouTube Remote, and its ends with the cam glitching out and being replace with first a static image of SMG3 waving and the Glitch Production glitching out.
  • God Guise: In "S̶M̶G̶4̶: I Can't Believe It's Not SMG4!", SMG3 pretends to be Cromolus, god of theater, so he can use Mario and form the second version of his gang to counter SMG4's and replace them.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: Axol during his banishment in the Internet Graveyard.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Susan puts aside her issues with Mario and SMG4 by "A Totally Normal SMG4 Episode" in the interest of taking down SMG3. It ends with her gain some mutual respect for SMG4 after the battle, and states she'll demonetize his channel less in the future.
  • Hostile Show Takeover: SMG3 and his gang temporarily takes over SMG4's channel then plays his channel's first video.
  • Innocuously Important Episode:
    • "Stupid Mario Arcade" starts out a Shout-Out to various retro arcade games, only for Greg the alien to be killed off in the middle of it, which plays a big role in "Mario vs Youtube".
    • The arc as a whole introduces the Internet Graveyard, which would become a major location in future SMG4 episodes, and SMG3's banishment there would end up kickstarting his redemption in the Genesis Arc.
  • Killed Off for Real: Greg was killed during "Stupid Mario Arcade", which is confirmed in "Mario VS Youtube". SMG3 reminds Mario of this to convince him to join.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • Between Mario being manipulated by SMG3 into joining the heist to avenge Greg, and Mario unintentionally sending Axol to the Internet Graveyard during the events of "Mario Gets Woke" (resulting in the breaking of both Axol, who has gone mad from being stuck in there for five years, and the Inkweaver, which would have given the heroes equal footing), it's safe to say Mario's screwed up the biggest so far this arc. Gets even worse in the "War Of The Fat Italians 2020", when Mario causes SMG3 to snap during the challenges and force JubJub to cough up the remote possessing him.
    • Though this was nothing compared to SMG4, who singlehandedly kickstarted the arc just by ruining SMG3's chance of redeeming himself, under the assumption that he's still evil.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Both villains are deposed due to their actions in previous episodes.
    • Susan, in her petty attempt to get back at Mario for using the YouTube Remote in "Mario Gets Woke", has him kill Greg during "Stupid Mario Arcade". This allows SMG3 to manipulate Mario into helping him steal the remote during "Mario vs Youtube," which results in her banishment in "A Totally Normal SMG4 Episode."
    • SMG3's Bad Boss tendencies bite him back fatally when his Anti-Cast betray him during the rap battle in "War Of The Fat Italians 2020", and is subsequently Dragged Off to Hell by Susan herself after losing.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: Meggy completes her transition from Inkling OC to Original Character thanks to the YouTube Remote replacing her voice. SMG3 is banished to the Internet Graveyard, where he would later undergo another Heel–Face Turn and become its new ruler.
  • Not Quite Dead: Turns out that rather then erasing the Glitchy Gang, the cast is trapped - along with Susan - in the Internet Graveyard due to SMG3's inexperience with the YouTube Remote, giving them a window in escaping it and beating SMG3.
  • Suddenly Speaking: Starting with this arc, SMG3 was voiced by fulltime Glitch editor James Bailey.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: SMG4 this time around, due to thinking SMG3 is up to something evil, raids and causes such a ruckus that Snitch Production studio is destroyed, and SMG3 decides to return to villainy, which leads to the arc.
  • Wham Episode:
    • "Mario's Spicy Day 🔥" ends with the reveal that SMG3 really was trying to reform, but thanks to SMG4, decides to return to villainy.
    • "Mario VS Youtube": The episode has Mario working with SMG3's Gang to retrieve the YouTube Remote so that he can rebuild his studio. Once they get it with the help of Anti-Shroomy, he reveals his true intentions: to delete SMG4 from existence. It then cuts to Mario finishing telling this story to SMG4, confirming it takes place after "The Internet Graveyard". With that, SMG4 takes Mario to round up everyone to fight SMG3's Gang, kickstarting the Youtube Arc. And this episode is also revealed to be the 6th in the arc, retroactively making the past 5 episodes part of the arc as well.
    • "War Of The Fat Italians 2020" is less impactful than the others, but it shows one important thing: Meggy now has a permanent English voice.
  • Wham Line:
    • "Mario VS Youtube": After SMG3's Gang succeeds in getting the YouTube Remote:
SMG3: AND NOW! TO FINALLY USE THIS REMOTE TO DESTROY SMG4 ONCE AND FOR ALL!!
    • "War of the Fat Italians 2020": After Susan WindowsXP banished SMG3 to the Internet Graveyard and got her remote back:
Meggy: Ha...ah...hello? This is Meggy and this is my voice!
  • Year Inside, Hour Outside: The Internet Graveyard, as revealed in its titular episode. Axol explains that he was trapped there for five years, but in the real world, it's only been a few weeks.

SMG3

Despite being a Meme Guardian, SMG3 doesn't have the capacity to actually create his own original Memes like SMG4 can.
