FaZe Combat is an Montage Parody/Machinima hybrid series created by a small internet media creator known as AWACS AbandonedIntel. The series follows FaZe_Gripen, a gamer who's a member of the FaZe Clan, through his various adventures and journeys with this friends and against his enemies in the various servers and scenarios that FaZe Combat hosts. However, things take a turn for the worst once the HAX0R Clan shows up, and starts taking servers all over the globe. With his trusty teammates, Dank Memes United, an alliance of players from all around the world, is formed, and together they take on the HAX0R Clan to stop them from ruining the game for everyone.

This series was created using Ace Combat: Assault Horizon on the PlayStation 3, and as of this writing, the series has 3 entries to its name, with its first entry having uploaded to YouTube on October 8th, 2015. The playlist with the entire series can be found here, with all of the episodes in the playlist.

Tropes found in the series

  • The Alliance: Dank Memes United.
  • Badass Army: Dank Memes United's Air Wing.
  • Badass Crew: Sanic Squadron. See Five-Man Band down below for the squadron's cast.
  • Bottomless Magazines: None of the characters seen in the series run out of ammo, and as per the tradition with Ace Combat games, all of the ordnance fired onscreen comes from some sort of Hyperspace Arsenal.
  • Calling Your Attacks: FaZe_Gripen often calls out noscope! or QAAM-scope! before shooting down his opponent with the game's infamous QAAM missiles, though sometimes his allies (being voiced by characters from Ace Combat 04 and 5) will sometimes call out "Fox Two!" before shooting down an enemy as well.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: The names of players during subtitled dialogue (or simple mic chat in the case of the first FaZe Combat) and their playercards (as of FaZe Combat 3) are often colored in a way that would allow the audience to categorize characters by their faction. FaZe Clan would be green, Dank Memes United blue, while OPT1C Gaming is grey and all other hostiles are red.
  • Cool Plane: Again, with the series being shot with an Ace Combat game, this is pretty much standard.
  • Enemy Chatter: Like in most entries to the Ace Combat series, the enemies can be heard in this series, too. However, in this case, it's maybe because the server's settings allow both teams to broadcast mic chatter.
  • Enemy Mine: Subverted in FaZe Combat 3: Teamkillers, in which Sanic Squadron team up with an OPT1C Gaming squadron to help them defend the MLG Airbase from an incoming F2P Strike Force. FaZe_Gripen is skeptical about them, and he had every right to be.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Several found throughout the series.
    • If one were to pause the video at the beginning of FaZe Combat 3: Teamkillers, a few of the recommended videos on the sidebar appear to have been created/uploaded by the various cast members of the FaZe Combat series. Some of them reveal a few things about the characters themselves, such as CommanderRivero's political views and AbandonedIntel's self-awareness.
    • Some of the usernames that show up in the kill feed in the first two videos show quite a few references to the Ace Combat series, as well as references to various memes as well. Those references can be easier to spot once player cards were added in FaZe Combat 3: Teamkillers.
  • Good Colors, Evil Colors: Like with Color-Coded for Your Convenience, characters' alignments are often categorized by the color of their dialogue name and/or playercard, with hostiles often being red and friendlies often being blue.
  • Good Planes, Evil Planes: Slightly Subverted, while the game used to make this series is Ace Combat: Assault Horizon, it would be natural that all hostile fighters would be Russian. However, while most of the cast flies western aircraft, Xx_MLGACE_xX flies a MiG-29.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In FaZe Combat 3: Teamkillers, FaZe_Gripen discredits the sanic meme by shooting it down, in a mission right after he was put at the helm of Sanic Squadron.
  • It's Personal with the Dragon: While FaZe_Gripen simply dismissed Xx_SQUEAKERSUKHOI_xX as another enemy player at first, Squeaker quickly became a threat to Gripen, and by FaZe Combat 3: Team Killers, Squeaker has already shot down FaZe_Tomcat and damaged FaZe_Gripen's plane, thus marking Squeaker as FaZe_Gripen's Arch-Nemesis. Squeaker meets his end in FaZe Combat 04: Shattered Series at the hands of FaZe_Gripen, after an epic "Reason You Suck" Speech.
  • Just Plane Wrong: Played for Laughs for the most part. FaZe_Gripen would often regard enemy planes with meme numbersnote , and a death screen in FaZe Combat 3: Teamkillers regarded FaZe_Gripen's plane as a "jas-69 griffindor", when it is actually a SAAB Jas-39 Gripen.
  • Lampshade Hanging: FaZe_Gripen does that from time to time in the series, often pointing out how odd and out of place events occur.
[Intense music continues to play after FaZe_Gripen ejects from his plane]
FaZe_Gripen: Why the fuck do I hear music from Mass Effect playing?
  • Macross Missile Massacre: Used from time to time by some of the characters, most notably CommanderRivero.
  • Memetic Mutation: Some of the things FaZe_Gripen says himself end up becoming memes within the FaZe Combat fanbase, most notably XDDDDDDDD1DD1D1D!!1!!
  • Oh, Crap!: Said often by FaZe_Gripen almost whenever something goes wrong for him.
[Anytime FaZe_Gripen gets tailed by an enemy]
    FaZe_Gripen: O SHIT
  • Orphaned Series: The series sort of ended, while with some closure, on an unfinished video in FaZe Combat 04: Shattered Series. The author stated himself that he didn't enjoy working on the video, and just couldn't do it anymore. While the video itself is complete in regards to the contentnote , the visual effectsnote  didn't make an appearance in the video.
  • Oh, Crap!: Said often by FaZe_Gripen almost whenever something goes wrong for him.
[Anytime FaZe_Gripen gets hit by a missile or his opponent gets behind him]
    FaZe_Gripen: O SHIT
  • Spoiler Title: FaZe Combat 3: Teamkillers. Though viewers who have already played Ace Combat: Assault Horizon already would've seen the betrayal coming a mile away.
  • Title Drop: In the first two entries to the series.
FaZe_Gripen: Hello my name is FaZe Gripen and we're gonna play FaZe Combat XDDDDDDDD1DD1D1D!!1!!
