WMG / Warriors Orochi

Go To

Masamune and Keiji being Orochi's underlings is a form of Take That! to Sengoku Basara

Sengoku Basara 2 introduces Naoe Kanetsugu as a pathetic Joke Character a la Dan Hibiki. Koei doesn't like one of their main trio getting reduced like that, as a result, they snap back at Capcom by making two of Basara's poster boys (Yukimura is also Koei's poster boy, so he's out of question) underlings of Orochi that you need to beat down and label 'bad guys'. Not to mention Masamune, being the more 'main' poster boy of Basara, is turned into a worshipping fanatic of Orochi, stripping all his badass points in his KOEI incarnation (it's less than the Capcom one, but STILL).

The third game will continue the story, and expand it to the next generation DW and SW (DW 7 and SW 3)

Which means, most maps get a revamp for nextgen maps, and they will include Bao Sanniang, Ma Dai, Liu Shan, Guan Suo, Cai Wenji, Jia Xu, Ding Feng, Lian Shi, Sima Shi, Sima Zhao, Wang Yuanji, Zhuge Dan, Guo Huai, Zhong Hui, Deng Ai and Xiahou Ba for the DW side; Kato Kiyomasa, Kaihime, Kuroda Kanbei, Hojo Ujiyasu, Tachibana Muneshige, Takenaka Hanbei, Mouri Motonari, Aya Gozen and Fukushima Masanori on the SW side. Plus Musashi and Kojiro returns.

  • Kanbei Kuroda, Will be one of Orochi's underlings.
    • Well Maybe Not, He is in the Samurai Team.
    • Fukushima Masanori will find a way to be Orochi's underlings. Because you know, KOEI hates him.
  • Sima Yi will bring the whole Jin faction to the Orochi side, but not everyone will be there for long. Zhong Hui would most likely stick with Sima Yi due to his arrogance. Sima Shi might also stay.
    • Jossed: Sima Shi joins Cao Pi's army agains Da Ji.
    • Sima Zhao, due to his carefree attitude and having Wang Yuanji might defect to another force. If Zhong Hui sticks, Deng Ai might defect. Xiahou Ba will definitely defect.
  • New Dream will have:
    • Aya Gozen, Fukushima Masanori and Gracia for the SW 3 XL.
    • Mitsunari Ishida, Kato Kiyomasa and Fukushima Masanori.
    • Kotaro Fuma, Hojo Ujiyasu and Kaihime for the Hojo Clan
    • Hojo Ujiyasu, Kenshin Uesugi and Shingen Takeda.
  • And Takamaru.
  • They might also be adding Warriors: Legends of Troy into the mix (assuming the game ever releases...).
  • And they have announced just such a Game! And not only they bring the DW 7 XL additions (Pang De, Guo Jia and Wang Yi), bring back Zuo Ci, Musashi, Kojiro and Goemon, they brought Achilles, they also brought in Jeanne D'Arc from Bladestorm and Ryu Hayabusa!
    • And Nemea from Z'ill Oll and of all people, Ayane from Dead or Alive.

The 4th game will have Kenshiro, from Ken's Rage
One hell of a pipe dream, but they don't call this section wild for nothing. Also, holy shit IT WOULD BE SO AWESOME
  • Koei is going to make a lot of anime-based Musou other than Gundam, Fist of the North Star and One Piece. THEN such crossover will be possible (Excepting Gundam because it'll be totally unfair for the ground characters who doesn't pilot Gundams)
    • Someone hasn't seen SD Gundam, one can use that artstyle for "Team Gundam" ... and perhaps load a joke over their distinct differences... (Someone mistakes it for a giant only to find out one of hte M Ses are the size of them)
Warriors Orochi 4 will have some Guest Fighter characters from Western Media
Following the inclusions of Star Wars and Assassin's Creed casts in Soul Calibur, here are some guests we want. From Disney:From Marvel Comics
  • Deadpool
    • But what it make it better? Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool!!!!
  • Black Panther
  • Thor- the actual Thor not deified Lu Bu/Thor.
From Cartoon NetworkFrom CD Projekt RED:
  • Geralt of Rivia- Yes, there's his "Japanese" counterpart, William. But it would be cool if Geralt appears ever since he makes appearance in Soulcalibur VI and Monster Hunter: World. Then, he can have some time with the DW and SW ladies. And upon appearing in the Orochi's world, he'll complain about the portals again.

Warriors Orochi 3 will be made playable and accessable in stores in the US.
When they release the Warriors Orochi Collection, look back at other series. Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, God of War, Mega Man In a year or so they will release all three games and you don't have to download it to play it.

There will be a fourth game and it will come after SW 4 (AKA somewhere in or after 2014)
They could just whip in a Continuity Reboot for the WO franchise. It's inevitable as the series they're picked from will continue to grow and Koei would probably give them a chance to encounter each other again. It will have Abe no Seimei and Shennong from get-go. The newest addition of the cast would be Xu Shu, Guan Xing, Guan Yinping, Zhang Bao, Yue Jin, Li Dian, Lu Su, Han Dang, Zhang Chunhua, Jia Chong, Wen Yang, Takatora Todo, Yagyu Munenori, Ii Naotora, a Bladestorm character (probably Edward the Black Prince, the main 'face' of the English forces), a Trojan character, and for the 'modern day/ Ninja Gaiden' representative... well, the most recent addition of Hayabusa's lady friends after Ayane, Rachel and Momiji: Kasumi.

Maybe for PS4?

  • Semi-confirmed, there's a new game but not WO 4, but WO 3 Ultimate. For PS3 and Vita. And amongst the list, only Xu Shu made it so far, along with a new character Tamamo-mo-Mae.
  • It's officially confirmed that there will be a Warriors Orochi 4 which is set to be out on 2018 (probably tentative) and judging by the teaser poster, they're using the DW 8 and SW 4 character designs.

The fourth game will be a Continuity Reboot

Seeing that the third game is something of a Grand Finale of the current saga, it would make a lot more sense if the next game is a reboot. Much like both DW and SW got a bit of 'reboot' post DW6 and post SW3 (instances: Cao Cao less of a Card-Carrying Villain, Sima Yi a lot more noble and being the patriarch of Jin, Fuuma Kotarou less of a chaos-worshipping Troll but more loyal to Hojo), would make a lot more sense if it got a reboot.

Alternatively, the fourth game continues the story, but won't be called Warriors Orochi anymore

Because Orochi has been redeemed in 3 in form of Shuten Douji, it means that there will be another mythical figure to stand as a grand enemy in Orochi's stead, something similar to Hundun. To go with the Antagonist Title scheme, the game won't be titled Warriors Orochi but 'Warriors (insert new Big Bad here)'

  • Jossed. It's still WO4/MO3

The next game will have additional characters from the Genji/Genpei era.

Taira no Kiyomori seemed still legit enough to become a recurring villain. Maybe they won't keep doing the Guest Fighter schthick as in 3, so to make up for that, they'll bring in people from the era of Genji/Genpei War as either friends or enemies for Yoshitsune and/or Benkei, such as the other warriors for Minamoto clan (e.g: Yoritomo) or Taira clan (e.g: Kagekiyo) or others like Tomoe Gozen.

The "Rival Warlords" DLC scenario in Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires is set in the Orochi World.

It has characters from DW, Bladestorm, Taira Kiyomori, and even Genghis Khan at war with each other in a very time-displaced China. Kiyomori and his officers (namely Sun Wukong and Himiko) look like their Orochi incarnations, and the very premise is right up Orochi's alley.

Warriors Orochi 4 will still use the DW 8 and SW 4 movesets and weapons.

The teaser poster shows Zhao Yun and Sanada Yukimura in their DW 8 and SW 4. So, it's likely that the DW characters would use their old moveset and weapons from DW 8 instead of DW 9 which already overhauled the gameplay system.

Warriors Orochi 4 may include the DW 9 characters.

Since DW 9 revamped the gameplay, the new characters can use DW 8-inspired movesets and retain their character design similar to what happened with Zhou Cang when he debuted in Warriors All-Star. They can also retained their weapons since they're new.
  • A precedence of this can be seen with Xin Xianying appearing in DW Unleashed, which had DW 8 move system. So there is a chance for the new guys.
    • Apparently while playing the game, there's no generic NPC versions of the DW 9 and Spirit of Sanada characters. There's no generic version of Katsuyori Takeda or Cheng Pu etc. It's possible that Koei is planning to include them at some point during development. So, it's likely that they may be included in an expansion.

Warriors Orochi 4 will either have a wide open sandbox like 9 or a hub world like All-Stars

Warriors Orochi 4 will have a No Dub for You

It’s already amazing they had so many actors for 9 in Japanese, English and Chinese. It’ll be easier to just translate the dialogue and not do any dubbing.

Warriors Orochi 4 will add Bladestorm and Legend of Troy characters as other factions

These two are the more 'Warriors-ish history' characters when compared to other purely fictional characters from Zill Ol or Ninja Gaiden. With the incentives on both Joan of Arc and Achilles, it may be a matter of time until we start seeing the likes of Edward the Black Prince, La Hire, Gilles de Rais, Patroklos (no, not Sophitia's son. Achilles' partner), Hektor, Paris, and many others. Which may also include...
  • Jossed. The producers already made it clear that characters from those two franchises will not be included.
    • Unjossed because Joan of Arc returns in Warriors Orochi 4: Ultimate.

Warriors Orochi 4 will add up the Greek Mythology on both the mystic side and humans side

Gods also participated in the Trojan War, cases could be made for Athena, Ares, Apollo and Aphrodite, all of which had a hand in the Trojan War. Aside of this, the Greek Pantheon is rife with legendary monsters like the Minotaur, Medusa and the Gorgons, etc. In addition of this, there are many tales of Greek heroes, but aside of Trojan War, none came close as 'warring', these heroes would fit very well in a non-historical game like WO. Imagine fighting the likes of Greek heroes such as Heracles/Hercules, Perseus, Atalanta, Theseus, Jason and the Argonauts, Medea or Orion...
  • Confirmed. The game's Big Bad is Zeus.
    • A bit jossed on Zeus being the Big Bad. The official trailer shows Zeus doing a spirit bomb with Zhao Yun and Yukimura plus his character design doesn't look a bit sinister to me. He reminds me of a Greek version of Thor with steroids. Unless, Koei is trying to invoke the Light Is Not Good on him.
    • Perseus has been confirmed and he was said to have betrayed Zeus. So it might give credence for Zeus being the Big Bad
      • Though that doesn't explain why Athena is also after him.

Guessings for new Mystics or Pre-History Characters in WO4

Either Japanese/Chinese deities or non-3 Kingdoms or Sengoku Period characters that will appear in WO4, just like 3 added Kaguya and Shuten Douji and Nezha. Most likely, we'll have to stick with those before Sengoku or Three Kingdoms (which is why probably we won't be seeing The Shinsengumi)

  • Chinese
    • Emperor Zhou (Da Ji's husband who was manipulated into letting her terrorize his empire)
    • Ao Kuang
    • Zhu Bajie
    • Sha Wujing
    • Houyi
    • Xi Wangmu
  • Japanese
    • Amaterasu
    • Tsukuyomi
    • Emperor Sutoku (The last of Japan's '3 Most Terrible Youkai', the other 2 being Tamamo-no-Mae and Shuten Douji)
    • Tomoe Gozen
    • Kintaro/Sakata Kintoki
    • Ashiya Douman

Tecmo-Koei guest stars

While they could just use some of the same assets as Warriors All Stars, let’s go over the guesses.
  • Ninja Gaiden: Ryu Hayabusa, Ayane
  • Dead Or Alive: Kasumi, Marie Rose, Honoka
  • Warriors All-Stars: Tamaki, Shiki, Setsuna
  • Atelier Mystery Trilogy: Sophie, Plachta, Firis, Liane, Lydie, Suelle.
  • Nioh: William

WO4 PS4 version will have DLC appearance of Kratos

His fighting style screams of being ported into Musou style combat, and with Zeus and the Greek Myth coming to fray, who's to say that Kratos wouldn't want another chance to bash Zeus' head good again? Probably going to be non-canon to the overall plot, it's only for Fanservice on the Sony players, since the Switch players have either Zelda characters or Fire Emblem characters for their DLC source.

Also probably the original trilogy Kratos before he went to Norse Mythology.

And much like Sophitia in WO3U, it may explain why Kratos suddenly disappeared after GOW3, he got transported to the WO-verse and his stay there made him calm down about the Greek Gods enough that once he reappeared in Norse, he's a much calmer figure (because really, Koei has a tendency to make things Lighter and Softer...).

Possible starting/leader characters of WO4

I'm going to base it on the front row of the group pic where asides from Zhao Yun and Yukimura Sanada who are the poster boys of their respective franchises, the leader characters will be (not necessarily per faction):
  • DW: Guan Yinping, Lu Lingqi, Cao Pi and Guo Jia
  • SW: Naomasa Ii, Mitsunari Ishida, Naotora Ii and Yoshitsugu Otani
Either two or three can be the leaders while the rest can be the supporting leaders.
  • Something to note about these eight characters is that most of them consistently place in the top ten of their franchises' popularity polls. Ishida, in particular, has been voted the most popular SW character on multiple occasions. Naomasa is the only one who hasn't, but that's because his SW incarnation hasn't even been included in one yet.
    • Also, Cao Pi and Guo Jia starred in the last main story stage of WO3U.

The 8 characters who will get deification

Naturally, this will depend on the popularity or role from the three games whether we like or not. It might be possible if this will be done per faction as it would be extremely unfair if two character from one faction will get deification.
  • Confirmed:
    • Zhao Yun (Shu)
    • Yukimura (Sanada)
    • Cao Pi (Wei)
    • Mitsunari (Toyotomi)
    • Guan Yinping (Shu)
    • Nobunaga (Oda)
    • Naotora (Tokugawa)
    • Lu Bu (Others)
  • Possible (for DLC or Season Pass):
    • Lu Xun (Wu)
    • Wang Yuanji (Jin)
    • Lu Lingqi (Others)
    • Naomasa (Tokugawa)
    • Sun Shangxiang (Wu)
    • Takatora (Tokugawa)
    • Zhong Hui (Jin)
    • Sun Ce (Wu)
    • Sima Zhao (Jin)

One character from the Norse mythology may be included

The producers made some vague references that a Norse character might be in the new roster due to the presence of some items from Norse mythology and that Guan Yinping's deification is based from Frejya, the Norse goddess of fertility. So, it's possible that they might put Odin, Thor, Frigga, Heimdall or Loki in it and it would be no surprise if they happen to look like their Marvel Cinematic Universe counterparts as long as Disney doesn't go after their heads.
  • Confirmed. It's a pretty boy Odin.

A spinoff game will be made which would solely focus on the mythological figures

Because of the appearance of five gods from Greek and Norse mythologies in the fourth game, it's high time for Koei to make a spinoff game about the different mythologies where they will include the other characters are from the Chinese, Japanese, Greek and Norse mythologies asides the ones we got. They can also include others like Aztec, Egyptian, Slavic, Celtic and Russian mythology. And lastly, the movesets of the old characters need to improve considering that they have the SAME movesets since their debut.
  • There is one era that doesn't have to be necessarily mystic-related, but could be rife for this: Genpei Era. Aside of Yoshitsune, Benkei and Kiyomori, that era is rife with several heroes that could use a Musou-style revamp. For example: Kiso/Minamoto no Yoshinaka, Minamoto no Yoritomo, Hojo Masako, Tomoe Gozen, Nasu no Yoichi, Taira no Kagekiyo...
  • Moving on to outside China and Japan, it is worth noting that making games out of the mythologies will become different from other things Koei made: It doesn't involve grand scale wars (Warriors: Legends of Troy and Bladestorm did involve wars). It would be another venture for Koei to chronicle things like Heracles and the 12 Labors, Jason and the Argonauts, Gotterdamerung... but I believe it will be worth it.
    • Actually, I'm thinking more of something like Battle of the Gods. Have every pantheon fight each other and it would be an all-out war on the divine realm, no need to involve the humans. They might not need to add guys like Yoshitsune or Kiyomori but those guys have supernatural abilities unlike the DW/SW characters whose "magic" abilities are shown for gameplay. It would be really interesting if they add the Dynasty Warriors: Strikeforce 2 characters like Shi Huangdi and Xiang Yu.

There will be a DLC or expansion focusing on Ragnarok

The story of the Norse gods seems to be incomplete which means that there will obviously be a DLC or expansion regarding Ragnarok and how Loki infiltrated Olympus. This also means that Thor, Freyja, Tyr and other Norse gods will be playable.
  • This can be good to expand Odin in one of these two: Is he a Tragic Villain that surviving Ragnarok twisted him, or has he been twisted since the beginning realizing that he's gonna die one day that he went every ways to stop his death, thereby he actually modified Ragnarok so that he's left alive (instead of him being the mid-early casualty), at the cost of every other Norse Gods? This might explain why Loki is pissed at him...
    • The game already answered about Loki's reason for revenge: Odin depowered him and killed all his friends. After that, Loki used what's left of his power to disguise himself as the Greek half-mortal, Perseus.
    • Apparently, the Ultimate expansion will have a side-story regarding Odin.

DW9 and Spirit of Sanada characters will be DLC

There should be a reason why you don't spot their names amongst the generics, they're saving for an eventual DLC.

Dark Joan from Bladestorm: Nightmare will be featured

Perhaps this would be why Joan returned in Ultimate... they do want to capitalize on their darker take from Nightmare. Additionally, 'Dark Joan' as a concept has been highly popularized by Jeanne Alter, so Koei Tecmo may want to capitalize on that.
