Vs. Cheeky (sometimes referred to and stylized as VS. CHEEKY - A LITERAL ROCK) is a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod created by Wizord (aka Salami Wizard), Lexicord, Lonestarr, and Goodenoty. It stars the main character of the same name from M U G E N, a group responsible for a series of Roblox Surreal Horror games (though this isn't immediately obvious), most specifically their most popular creation where most of their lore comes from: VESZTESEG.

After numerous failed attempts to have Boyfriend killed, Daddy Dearest rings up a literal rock with a complicated history named Szemtelen ManĂ³, better known as Cheeky, to kidnap and kill him. As it turns out, this rock has more than what it takes to dispose of Boyfriend... assuming he can outwit him first. In October 19, 2021, a new update called Cheeky V3 was added, porting the mod to the Psych Engine, giving new songs to Week 2, overhauling the visuals and animations and finally adding a crossover week with literally every fnf mod ever plus two bonus songs, one against Ron from the aforementioned mod and a battle against one of the God Spheres from Mugen, Omen.

Week 1 Songs (Cheeky VS Boyfriend)

  1. Rocky Beats
  2. Tough Stone
  3. Hard 2 Break (Cheeky VS Boyfriend)

Week 2 Songs

  1. Salami Teachings
  2. Devil's Jello
  3. Bedrock

VS Bob Songs (Cheeky VS Bob)

  1. Rivals
  2. FNAF Shuffle
  3. Bad Eggroll
  4. Cornucopia

Bonus Songs

  1. Guns (from the original game, covered by Cheeky and with new vocals for Boyfriend)
  2. Cuisine (Chef Ron)
  3. Bad Omen (Omen)

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Villainy: Omen was one of the few helpful rocks in VESZTESEG. Here, he's the last opponent of the mod and seems to be genuinely spiteful towards Boyfriend, likely taking inspiration from a short where Omen does Eggman's announcement.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • In the V2 version of "Hard 2 Break," Cheeky initially seems like he's about to undergo the now-formulaic final song transformation, but stops himself. He then flees the building because all those gunshots attracted the attention of the police.
    • In the V3 version, Cheeky transforms into his demonic form and crushes Boyfriend quite fiercely with his hand, planning to choke him to death. However, after a cut to black, Boyfriend wakes up in the M U G E N lobby with a note from Cheeky where he mentions that he decided to spare their life.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Cheeky is fluent in Hungarian, and drops the Stylistic Suck of his dialogue whenever he uses the language. His real name is also Hungarian for "naughty leprechaun."
  • Bolivian Army Ending: After beating "Cornucopia", Cheeky pulls out his gun and challenges Bob to a "Real battle", cue both Cheeky and Bob, eldritch and mechanical abominations respectively, transforming into their true forms as the world around them begins to warp.
  • Brutal Bonus Level:
    • V2 introduced "Guns" from the original game as a bonus, the main difference being that both major mechanics from the main mod are active during this song. Cheeky shoots much more often than in "Hard 2 Break" as well, often leaving Boyfriend at critical HP at the start of every turn.
    • V3 introduced "Cornucopia", while not quite a bonus song, the note scroll speed is absolutely insane and Cheeky will begin to push back the HP bar as they sing by almost the same amount as your own singing, however just like you cannot defeat him by lowering his HP, you cannot be killed by his push unless you miss at low HP.
  • The Cameo: After the drop in "Bedrock," some of the other rocks from M U G E N's lore can be seen as effigies in the background, including one of Szemtelen himself.
  • Censored for Comedy: Cheeky curses up a storm in Week 2 when he realizes Boyfriend has broken into his house, but is censored in the style of Roblox's infamous filter system, reducing it to a bunch of hashes.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Cheeky is the owner of a number of meat-related businesses, but will also gladly take jobs to end people's lives personally as a side gig. The Bob week takes place inside the ManĂ³ Meat Solutions plant itself.
  • Cover Version: One of these for "Guns" serves as a Brutal Bonus Level, with Cheeky replacing Tankman and Boyfriend's vocals being altered to match V1 and V2's Boyfriend voice samples.
  • Demoted to Extra: Mirror Man and Jesu, the two protagonists from VESZTESEG, make no appearance whatsoever in this game except for Jesu and his joke counterpart Bruh Jesu appearing in the background for "Bedrock". Inverted with Omen, as he first appeared in the background for the same song but passed on to become the antagonist of a bonus song in V3.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The mod spares no effort in emphasizing that Cheeky is a literal rock. However, he shows signs of his actual nature as a Reality Warper and Time Abyss when the drop in "Bedrock" suddenly sends him and Boyfriend to a darkened valley, while his face glows red as if channeling the power of his friend Jakel.
  • Gun Nut: Cheeky is skilled in the use of a pistol and will fire it like crazy in an attempt to kill Boyfriend during "Hard 2 Break," rapidly draining his health in the process.
  • Interface Screw: Pop-up ads show up during Week 2 advertising Cheeky's meat plants. They last three seconds and obscure Boyfriend's side while active, making it much harder to see incoming notes.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • In the V2 version, both weeks are called "FUCKIN' ROCK" in addition to their actual titles in the main menu, lampshading the fact that despite Cheeky's disturbing origins, he is still of course just a boulder who happens to know how to shoot a gun, as silly as it sounds.
    • Cheeky seems to find Daddy Dearest's attempts to kill Boyfriend somewhat ridiculous as evidenced in his dialogue in the intro cutscene, though he complies anyways.
  • Lighter and Softer: Invoked. Cheeky tries to move himself and Boyfriend to one of M U G E N's darker games (likely VESZTESEG, his place of origin) under the excuse of privacy for the two of them, but Boyfriend refuses, leaving them stuck in the more "normal" lobby surrounded by a crowd of devotees.
  • Luck-Based Mission: The gunshots in "Hard 2 Break" occur randomly, meaning if the player is really unlucky, Cheeky will fire enough shots to leave them at critical HP. Cheeky cannot kill Boyfriend through his gunshots, but less skilled players will have a tough time recovering the HP lost. To make matters worse, gunshots increase in frequency near the end of the song.
  • Marathon Level: The final song, "Bedrock," is four minutes long, with the drop leading up to the meat of the song occurring 90 seconds in.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The game's cutscenes are rendered in a style similar to Salami Wizard's web series featuring the rocks from VESZTESEG, though in a more serious tone compared to that of the original.
    • Cheeky's dialogue in Week 2 is lifted verbatim from the "Great Value" Burglary ending in VESZTESEG, incidentally the only other time he's gotten genuinely angry at someone. His swearing is also censored in the same style as Roblox censors innapropiate text, turning every filtered letter into a hashtag.
    • In "Bad Omen", Omen's scream before he flips the screen upside down is sampled from from his scream in the original VESZTESEG.
  • Reckless Gun Usage: Cheeky waves his gun around during "Hard 2 Break". In V2, it attracts the attention of the police, causing him to retreat. Justified, since this isn't the first time Cheeky has used a gun in an extremely stupid manner, as he once asked his friends to play Russian Roulette together and caused his friend Moloch to shoot himself.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Cheeky's face starts glowing red after the drop in "Bedrock". In V 3 it happens as he twists the environment while choking Boyfriend past Hard 2 Break.
  • Stylistic Suck: Aside from being the product of a crude skribbl.io drawing, in V2 Cheeky's dialogue is either all lowercase letters or Bold Inflation with numerous misspellings. Inverted in the surrounding environments, which add more detail to the buildings from M U G E N and VESZTESEG to bring them in line with the art style of Friday Night Funkin' and when Cheeky begins to get serious, speaking fluent hungarian.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: From the V2 version: M U G E N's lobby is a public venue set in the real world, and as such the police show up to the building after Cheeky fires off one too many gunshots in "Hard 2 Break."
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: After Boyfriend beats Cheeky fair and square, he breaks into Cheeky's house to challenge him further. Understandably, the rock doesn't understand what's going on and starts freaking out, with his concern becoming well-warranted as their fight drags them deeper into M U G E N's hellscape.
