The Legend of Banjo-Kazooie: The Jiggies of Time is a Banjo-Kazooie Rom Hack by Mark Kurko. As the title implies, it is a crossover of Banjo-Kazooie and Ocarina of Time.

The story was supposed to be the same as Ocarina of Time, but the Great Deku Tree could not awaken Link due to Gruntilda beating Ganondorf to the punch and imprisoning him as well as Link and Zelda in Hyrule Castle. She then hacks the code to make herself ruler of Hyrule, so the Great Deku Tree sends Bottles to awaken Banjo and Kazooie to do the task instead. The only way to open the Door of Time is by collecting the Jiggies of Time.

See also Super Mario 64: Ocarina of Time, which does the same thing with Super Mario 64, and Banjo-Dreamie, another hack.

This hack contains examples of:

  • Adapted Out: Most likely due to their size, neither the Fire Temple or the Shadow Temple are explored in this hack.
    • Lampshaded regarding Gohma appearing in the Water Temple. Banjo and Kazooie call him out on appearing here instead of the Deku Tree.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: Grunty does this to all of Hyrule, putting pictures and statues of herself in places and turning Lon Lon Ranch into Lon Lon Carnival, an Amusement Park of Doom similar to Witchyworld.
  • Amusement Park of Doom: Lon Lon Carnival, a level similar to Witchyworld with similar music. It has a rollercoaster with a track missing, a tall tower, a diving board very high up in the air and a tiny barrel with water to land on, and an invisible maze.
  • Bag of Spilling: The game is stated to take place after Banjo-Tooie, yet none of the techniques from that game are available.
  • Big Bad: Gruntilda, as usual; this time, she takes over Hyrule and steals the Triforce, and the duo must venture through the worlds to stop her.
  • Easter Egg: Hundreds of tiny game boxes of Nintendo and Rare's games are scattered throughout the various worlds.
  • Eviler than Thou: Gruntilda, of all people, managed to overcome Ganondorf in the backstory and imprison him in the Hyrule dungeon while taking the Triforce for herself.
  • Evil Tower of Ominousness: Grunty's Castle, which is made in her image and has her waiting at the top.
  • Gravity Screw: In an effort to recreate the twisted corridors from the original game's Forest Temple and its after-effects, there are areas where Banjo and Kazooie can swim in water on the walls or the ceiling.
  • Hijacked by Ganon: Inverted, Ganondorf has been overtaken by Grunty. He can even be found in the Hyrule Castle dungeon playing Zelda II: The Adventure of Link and getting a Game Over.
  • Hope Spot: Happens at the beginning and the end. Banjo thinks he is in a new game at the beginning only to have his hopes dashed by Bottles, then at the end when the duo collects the Triforce, the Deku Tree grants them a wish. They wish to be in a new game, and the Deku Tree grants them that wish... as soon as Rare makes it, which could take decades.
  • Informed Ability: Some of Banjo's transformations are stated to have abilities that you don't get to see.
    • The Bomb Bag is stated by Mumbo to be able to shoot bombs if you pick some up...but entering the Castle Town Bomb Shop only gets you a Rickroll, making it impossible to truly test.
    • The Baby Dodongo is stated to be able to breathe fire if Banjo stands in lava...but it's used in Zora's Domain, which has no lava to be seen.
  • Lighter and Softer: Than Ocarina of Time, which could get very dark at moments, especially in the Bad Future, and had unsettling enemies and levels. This mod stays closer to the Banjo lightheartedness.
  • No Fourth Wall: As is tradition, Banjo and Kazooie repeatedly reference the fact that they are in a mod, with Banjo enjoying the experience while Kazooie would rather be in an official Banjo HD game. They also reference the creator, Mark Kurko, with Kazooie insulting him frequently. When they finally get the Triforce, Kazooie's wish is to escape the mod and be in that Banjo HD game.
    • In a similar vein, Banjo and Kazooie mention being playable in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with both Ganondorf and Zelda commenting on fighting with them. Grunty even quips that Sakurai denied her a chance to be playable, saying that she was too over-powered.
    • Played with in the Nostalgia Levels. Banjo and Kazooie can go into first-person view and look up from their Forced Perspective to see one of the guards from Golden Eye 007 playing the game and looking confused at how the characters are looking at them.
  • Nostalgia Level: Quite a few throughout the game:
    • In the Forest Temple, entering a secret area will lead you to Level 1 from The Legend of Zelda.
    • Jabu-Jabu's Belly hides a secret entrance to Mario Circuit 2 from Super Mario Kart.
    • The second Secret Jiggy level is a recreation of Donkey Kong and Mario Bros..
    • The third Secret Jiggy Level is a recreation of Jungle Hijinxs from Donkey Kong Country, similar to another mod made by Kukro.
    • In Grunty's Castle, going inside her toilet leads to a Christmasy version of the Castle Grounds outside Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64.
  • Palette Swap:
    • Many of the Banjo enemies are recolored to look more like Zelda enemies, and one of the bosses, "Gohma", is a recolored Nipper.
    • The Mumbo transformations from the original game are retextured to look more like Zelda creatures, such as the Pumpkin becoming the Bomb Bag or the Crocodile becoming a Dodongo.
  • Puppet King: Dingpot has actually been declared King of Hyrule by Grunty herself, but as Kazooie points out, Grunty is clearly the one really in charge. The duo get Dingpot to help them simply by offering to make him real king when Grunty is defeated.
  • Rom Hack: Of Banjo-Kazooie.
  • Sequel Hook: Mumbo in the ending cutscene tells the player to wait for the next mod, Banjo-Kazooie: Stay At Home (later renamed Banjo-Kazooie: Nostalgia 64).
  • Shout-Out:
  • Soft Water: Just as in the original game, falling into water will always break your fall. Gets ridiculous when one Jiggy in Lon Lon Ranch requires you to jump from a diving board at a massive height into a tiny barrel with water inside.
  • Take That!: Many to the two games that inspired it.
    Kazooie: Let's hurry up, Banjo!
    Banjo: Why, what's wrong?
Kazooie: If I know anything about this place, there's an owl around here that'll talk to us for hours, and that's the last thing I want...
  • Take That, Audience!: Played for laughs. Banjo comments that the Water Temple, the most infamous and disliked level in Ocarina, was way less painful than they were led to believe, and Kazooie accuses its detractors of just wanting to whine. Neither of them seem to realize that Link was nowhere as good at swimming as they are.
  • The Very Definitely Final Dungeon: Grunty's Castle, replacing Ganon's Castle, is the final world of the game, and a full-fledged world with notes, Jiggies, Mumbo Skulls, and Honeycomb Pieces to collect. At the top is the entrance to the long staircase leading to the final battle against Grunty.
  • Wingdinglish: In the Forest Temple, the duo are informed by Cheato that to solve a number of puzzles, they will need to decipher the Hylian Language (it uses a modified version of Wind Waker's Hylian language which is already Japanese Katakana) into English (A is an unside-down De, F is Wa, G is an upside-down 4, H is Bo, etc...).
