Mega Man: The Sequel Wars is an unofficial sequel by Woodfrog to Mega Man: The Wily Wars which is programmed from scratch for the Sega Genesis and is planned to feature remakes of Mega Man 4, 5 and 6 with overhauled graphics, remixed music and a variety of extras like playable Proto Man and Roll. The compilation will feature a "Wily Tower" scenario like the original, and it will receive expansions in the form of an EX set of levels for each remake with new bosses.

As of 2023, the standard Mega Man 4 portion is fully playable as "Episode Red" and Skull Man's EX stage can be found in a previous demo released at the Sonic Amateur Games Expo. The ROM runs on both the original Genesis hardware and emulators.

Aside from tropes in Mega Man 4, 5 and 6, this compilation contains the following:

  • All Your Powers Combined: The Ultimate Doc Robot possesses the weapons of every robot master from the original trilogy.
  • Anti-Frustration Features: The game features an Easy Mode and freely lets players begin with things like infinite lives and every single weapon from the second trilogy at their disposal.
  • The Artifact: When playing as Proto Man, Mega Man will replace his role as the one who rescues Kalinka at the end of Cossack Stage 4. When Wily comes in, aside from swapping the names of the two robots, his dialogue of cursing Mega Man otherwise remains unchanged, meaning that in his eyes, Mega Man "betrayed" Wily, implying that Mega Man was working for Wily, something that is at the very least, unlikely to have happened.
Dr. Wily: "You betrayed me, Megaman!!"
  • Ascended Glitch: Glitches from the original games are recognized and given amusing effects.
  • Attract Mode: The main title screen in Episode Red shows gameplay of Pharaoh Man's stage.
  • Boss Arena Urgency: The first part of Dust Man EX's stage ends on a Dual Boss fight against two crusher machines that repeatedly drop to destroy a portion of the trash platform below Mega Man.
  • Bottomless Magazines: One of the difficulty options enables infinite ammo on all weapons.
  • Clipped-Wing Angel: The Ultimate Doc Robot's second phase has him turn into a giant that Mega Man cannot attack, but he undergoes a Superpower Meltdown and his HP will drain to zero on its own after a while.
  • Close-Range Combatant: Roll's normal attack is a Three-Strike Combo with a broom that hits in an arc around her and is quite useful in a variety of situations. She still has a ranged attack in the form of the usual charged buster, and can use any robot master's weapon like her brothers.
  • Co-Op Multiplayer: The game can be played by two players at once, though as of this writing the feature is only publicly available on the demo for Skull Man's EX stage linked above. The second player can repeatedly respawn after death by waiting for a timer to refill.
  • Fan Remake: Of the second Mega Man trilogy, fashioned after the official Wily Wars remake of the first trilogy.
  • Final Boss, New Dimension: The Wily Capsule in 4 is fought in a psychedelic virtual reality instead of a dark arena like in the original version.
  • Joke Character: In addition to Roll and Proto Man, you can also play as 'Man', which is just Mega Man reduced to a head waddling around on feet. This has multiple little changes as well:
    • The reduced height means you can walk through 1-block high passages without sliding.
    • All weapons are shot from the mouth, including the wire.
    • Rush is also reduced to a head and feet, making his hitbox smaller.
    • As characters like Wily and Cossack are affected, they have a hard time peeking out from the inside of their machines.
    • All boss battles have smaller hitboxes, making Dive Man considerably easier as he no longer is bulky.
    • Proto Man's whistle is replaced by the Among Us jingle.
    • Every level starts with a small Mega Man 2 title theme jingle.
    • In the inverse of everybody else, Eddie (The tin-can on legs that provides you with items in some stages) is now a full sized robot who charges at you before dropping off an item as normal.
    • Presumably, as 'Man' is not 'Mega Man', the final boss ends with him killing Wily before teleporting out, leading immediately into the credits without the ending scene.
  • Ledge Bats: In Dust Man EX's stage, the player must get used to a three blocks-wide platform design that periodically spits out a flying robot that rises to the top of the screen and then falls.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Proto Man can deflect projectiles with his shield while he's jumping.
  • Marathon Level: Judging from Skull Man's EX stage available in one of the demos, each EX level is really two full length levels put together with a boss at the end of each part. Each Robot Master also has two life bars and more complicated attack patterns, which adds to a level's length.
  • Meaningful Background Event: One that serves as a Call-Back: In the remastered Mega Man 4 intro, the explosions that engulf the city during the events of the first game can be attributed to the Robot Masters of that game. For example, Elec Man's explosions have lightning bolts surrounding them, Guts Man has rubble blown apart, and Cut Man's Rolling Cutter is seen being thrown.
  • Motion Parallax: Parallax effects are used to give the impression of the camera rotating around the platform in EX Toad Man's battle for dramatic effect. They are also used in the compilation to improve the visual quality of the recolored backgrounds.
  • New Game Plus: The game includes remixed versions of the second Mega Man trilogy with different level designs, new bosses and robot masters with expanded attack patterns.
  • Platform Battle:
    • EX Skull Man's second phase happens on top of a flying dragon robot.
    • EX Toad Man is fought on a platform by the sewers, with him jumping underwater to toss volleys of mines at Mega Man. Parallax effects are used to give the impression of the camera rotating around the platform for dramatic effect.
    • EX Dust Man's second phase happens on moving platforms placed over a river of lava.
  • Promoted to Playable: After being side characters in the original versions, Proto Man and Roll are playable in all of the remakes. They both have an unique ability — Proto Man can deflect bullets and Roll can swing a broom around.
  • Save-Game Limits: You get three save slots and you cannot change initial settings for them like difficulty and the playable character after the playthrough starts.
  • Scenery Porn: The compilation features heavily detailed backgrounds and parallax effects that makes the games look far prettier than either the NES originals or how Wily Wars compared to the original trilogy.
  • Upgraded Boss: Every EX boss has much more dangerous moves and battle strategies compared to their normal fights.
  • Video Game Tutorial: Players are allowed to test a newly acquired boss weapon in a tutorial screen before resuming the adventure.
  • Waddling Head: Playing as "Man" reduces all major characters to being heads with feet.
