Indiecalypse is a game by JanduSoft S.L., in which the main premise is about "three stories, three outcasts, three nerds... and a single destiny: to make the best video game ever".
This parodic Black Comedy Point-and-Click Game will contain many, many references to various video games and other pop culture. Will contain over 20 minigames.
The game was reached it's initial funding goal in 48 hours on Kickstarter.
Can be found on Steam, with a release date of April 30th, 2020. Ports are also planned for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
This game includes examples of:
- Art-Style Dissonance: The "Calarts" style (used for cartoons such as Gravity Falls and The Amazing World of Gumball) is depicted in this game is deliberate because Word of God says that he wanted to create this striking contrast between a cartoony art style versus adult themes, gore, and black humor.
- Big "NO!": Violet cries one when she learns that she forgot her tampons at home.
- Bland-Name Product:
- 4Chin.
- Burger Donald's.
- Bloody Hilarious: When Jack beats up tattletale Pete with a keyboard. It's so jarring that at least one Let's Player thought it had to be an Indulgent Fantasy Segue.Trickster512: [laughing] Yeah, right! This is what he wants to do, not what he's actually doing! [after the minigame] Now what did you really do, because that clearly wasn't real, yeah [sees blood trail]—oh, it was?! [bursts out laughing]
- The Cameo: Carmen Sandiego of all people appears in the form of Violet's period. She even appears as a boss in the Cuphead-esque minigame!
- Don't Make Me Take My Belt Off!: Jack's father takes off his belt when he learns that Jack got expelled. He utilizes it in a Mortal Kombat-esque minigame, but he tires out way too quickly.
- Dream Within a Dream: The whole game. Jack "waking up" to go to school, finding the game development flier, and all the chaos that followed were All Just a Dream that he wakes up from for real in the ending. When he finds the flier in reality, he throws it right in the nearest trash bin.
- Driven to Suicide: Jack hangs himself at the end of the teaser after getting a flammatory—and his very first—review about his game.
- Evil Laugh: Carmen Sandiego has a stereotypical villain laugh after telling Violet that her tampons are at home.
- Exactly What It Says on the Tin: "Shower With Your Grandpa".
- Expy: Jack looks like he came straight out of Gravity Falls, especially with the hair and glasses.
- Force Feeding: Jack kills Patt this way by forcing pipe content into him.
- Formerly Fit: Jack balloons up during his time working on the indie game.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Jack is stated to be "a bit aggressive".
- Laxative Prank: A task has Jack giving his father a can of coke that was opened when Tetris was first released.
- Mushroom Samba: Jack goes through one when he inhales boiled shampoo.
- Must Have Caffeine: Violet Oakly is a coffee addict.
- Pastiche: The minigames have too many to count.
- Jack's story:
- Ethan's story:
- Violet's story:
- To be specified:
- Repetitive Name: Jack Jackson.
- Shout-Out: Also too many to count:
- "If they see what I've done to him, I'm going to get killed. Or worse, expelled."Jack: Ow... I just quoted Hermione Granger! I'm so adorable!
- "Sorry, I don't speak Jabba the Patt."
- Exile on Mame Street
- You can put a Naruto-esque headband on Jack's dead grandfather.
- "If they see what I've done to him, I'm going to get killed. Or worse, expelled."
- Vague Age: Jack's, Ethan's, and Violet's listed ages in their respective bios are "Who cares?", "Meh...", and "3-4 cups of coffee".
- Worth It: After Jack kills Patt:Jack: Oh, God... I've just committed fratricide... but it feels great!
