Funkin' at Freddy's is a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod made by JcJack777 that centers around various Five Nights at Freddy's characters. The mod's main week focuses on William Afton — AKA the Purple Guy — who asks Boyfriend to sing with him as (surprise surprise) another ploy to add to his body count. Boyfriend isn't the only one receiving a bad ending, however...

The mod can be downloaded on GameBanana here.

  • Art Shift: Every song, save for "Salvage" and "Nightmare", has a different art style from base FNF.
    • The main week of the mod and "Umbra" use the art style of the Atari minigames from FNAF 2 and 3 respectively.
    • While most of "Just a Theory" is in the base style, a few sections of it take on a similar appearance to a classic NES game. Boyfriend's sprites, in particular, are like those from Super Mario Bros. Funk Mix, but without any colour limitations. This is changed for the Night 2 update.
    • "Fourth Wall" is entirely in 3D and from a diagonal perspective.
    • "Fazbars" uses a realistic PNG of Freddy as the opponent and a photoshopped real-world picture for the background, though Boyfriend remains in his usual appearance.
    • "Consequences" is in an Atari style similar to the main week, but colored entirely red to look like the 4th level of the Glitch World.
  • Bilingual Bonus: "Canae" is the Latin word for "of the dog" (a genitive singular variant, according to the song's composer), fittingly linking to how Afton baited one of his victims to their demise; the little girl who lost her dog to a car accident.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Neither William or Boyfriend survive until the end of mod, with "You Can't" ending with Boyfriend's spirit disappearing and William suffering the inevitable Cruel and Unusual Death at the hands of failing springlocks.
  • The Cameo: During the "Just a Theory" remake's NES sections, Mario can be seen walking by, first in the far background, and then in the foreground, stopping a moment to gesture to the player.
  • Death by Adaptation: Afton is one of very few opponents in an FNF mod to successfully kill Boyfriend, with it occurring offscreen between "Midnight" and "You Can't". Of course, by the aftermath of "Umbra", this doesn't stick.
  • Demoted to Extra: Girlfriend doesn't appear in any of the mod's songs except for "Just a Theory" (but in the case of the remake, she's only represented by a cutout on the sofa due to the story flow of the Night 2 update). Justified in that Mendo accompanies Boyfriend instead following Night 1 until he can find her again.
    • In "Canae", Girlfriend appears as a corpse in the arcade machine, though it's currently ambiguous as to whether or not she's really been killed, or if it's a ploy done by Afton to try and make Boyfriend give up and accept death. The implications of the approach are still unpleasant, either way.
  • Easter Egg: Most of the bonus songs require an unusual unlock method for the original build.
    • To unlock "Umbra", you have to click on the Shadow Bonnie plush seen in "Nightmare".
    • To unlock "Just a Theory", you have to type the code "395248" in the main menu.
    • To unlock "Fourth Wall", you have to beat every other song in the mod, save for "Umbra", "Consequences", or "Fazbars".
    • Unlocking "Fazbars" is an especially grueling task, as you have to click on William Afton on the main menu a grand total of 1987 times.
  • Fake Difficulty: Deliberately done in "Fazbars", as the song has an atrocious chart that doesn't even try to match the vocals.
  • Final Boss: "Fourth Wall" can be seen as this, since you have to beat almost every other song in the mod before he can be fought, with the only song afterwards being a joke one. However, this becomes a Disc-One Final Boss instead in the Night 2 update, with this song and "Consequences" being the last thing standing between the player and the newest content.
  • Interface Screw:
    • Around the second half of "Salvage", Phantom Marionette briefly appears in front of your strikeline to make it harder to see when you have to hit the notes. Phantom BB also pops up twice to distract the player.
    • "Fourth Wall" hides Animdude's side of the strum line, making it harder to tell what comes next. You also can't pause because, after all, There Is No Pause Button!
  • I Shall Taunt You: During "Nightmare", Springtrap frequently interjects to speak.
Springtrap: Let's get this over with... So I can kill you again!
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: "Consequences" was actually intended to be introduced in the upcoming Night 2 update, though the files for it were left in the Night 1 build by accident.
  • Lights Off, Somebody Dies: At the end of "Midnight", the lights turn off, and William kills Boyfriend.
  • Medium Blending: Whilst "Canae" starts out with the Atari-styled artwork, once Spring Bonnie shows up, we see Boyfriend's reflection in the glass rendered in the original FNF art style, alongside the arrows fully switching back to the base game's arrow sprites. Mendo also has the FNF artstyle once he's revealed right after beating the song.
  • Multiple Endings: The upcoming full-length Springtrap week has two of these, depending on if you click on the Shadow Bonnie during "Nightmare" or not before beating the song.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The main week and "Umbra" take place in the art style of FNAF 2 and 3's Atari minigames.
    • "Umbra"'s visuals consists of RWQFSFASXC teleporting across the various minigames from FNaF 3's secret ending path.
      • In addition, one of RWQFSFASXC's poses resembles Withered Bonnie, with most of its face missing aside from a lower jaw and some pinprick red eyes.
    • "Just a Theory":
      • The code used to unlock the song is the same one that infamously had to be input into a wall in Five Nights at Freddy's 3 to access one of the secret minigames.
      • The song frequently uses a Leitmotif of Science Blaster, the song used as the intro for Game Theory.
      • MatPat's idle animation has him doing the infamous thinking face from the photo he uses to represent himself in videos.
      • MatPat's left and up poses have him gain a cartoony expression (surprised and smug respectively), which is often done in Game Theory videos to emphasize a reaction.
    • The ability to pause is disabled during "Fourth Wall", as the character Animdude takes his appearance from is from a game literally called "There Is No PAUSE Button".
      • The instrumental backing of the song is a direct remix of the music from the fight against Animdude in FNaF World.
      • During a brief moment near the end, Animdude produces a phone, referencing the Phone Guy, whose voice actor Animdude acts as the avatar of.
      • The positioning of Boyfriend and Animdude brings to mind the main combat screen of FNaF World, with the players on the right, and the enemy on the left.
  • Overly Long Gag: "Fazbars" takes a little less than a minute to start.
  • The Overworld: After beating "Consequences" in the Night 2 update, a Five Nights at Freddy's World-styled overworld will be available for Boyfriend to traverse. From it, he can purchase things from Mendo, access the Flipside portals to go to new locations, or even simply fishing with Deedee. Secret songs can also be found around the overworld in hidden locations.
  • Retraux:
    • The entirety of the main week takes place in the art style of the FNAF series' Atari minigames, where Afton first appeared. "Umbra" also uses this artstyle.
    • Segments of "Just a Theory" turn MatPat and Boyfriend into pixelated sprites and bitcrush the voices to match.
  • Sanity Slippage: Over the course of the remade "Just a Theory", MatPat gradually undergoes this while trying to work things out, gradually getting impatient and manic with the overload of info BF is giving him. The scattershot nature of this information doesn't help his frustrations, either. Once Boyfriend is warped away, however, he quickly takes a pill and is back to normal.
  • Screw the Rules, I Have Money!: In the upcoming Dayshift at Freddy's mini-week, Jack is understandably on edge about sneaking into the backrooms to get parts for Mendo and Boyfriend, considering he would most likely get in trouble for giving away parts for free. However, when Mendo mentions about having some cash on hand, he instantly agrees and heads off to get the parts, even before Mendo could negotiate a price with him.
  • Sequel Hook: After beating "Nightmare", Springtrap shouts "Don't leave me here, Michael. Michael!", building up to the upcoming second week of the main story.
  • Shout-Out:
    • During "Celebrate", one of the kids in the background can be seen wearing a Candy the Cat mask, and another is in a Popgoes the Weasel mask.
    • Celebrate also ends with a riff from "Die in a Fire".
    • The main menu theme for the mod's Night 2 update has a few leitmotifs present, including "It's Been So Long", "Stay Calm" and "Join Us For A Bite".
    • The Free Play menu in the Night 2 update is styled after the main menu of Ultimate Custom Night.
  • Stylistic Suck: "Fazbars" is a joke song meant to emulate a poorly-made Friday Night Maker song. The opponent, Fred Fazbars, is an improperly-sized official PNG of Freddy, the background is a jarring real-world photo, and the song takes 51 seconds to even start, at which point the player is greeted with offbeat, off-key, grating vocals and a truly abysmal chart.
  • Verbal Backspace: In the DSaF mini-week, after Jack departs and mentions how he was worried about Boyfriend and Mendo finding the dead kids. Cue the Health Inspector showing up, forcing Jack to quickly correct that to FED kids.
  • We Will Meet Again: In the Dayshift at Freddy's mini-week, after Jack beats the Health Inspector, the latter remarks that "This won't be the last you'll see of the health department." before leaving.
  • Year Outside, Hour Inside: After completing "Canae", it's revealed that Boyfriend was playing at the Fruity Maze arcade machine and having the hallucinations of Afton for 21 hours straight, despite the song only lasting 5 minutes for us. Mendo came in to check on Boyfriend and didn't disturb him until the song's conclusion.
    • Of course, the above only applies to the mentioned gameplay video on the song. Before accessing Canae, the game will be at a fixed time, and once you've completed the song, the Overworld's clock will sync up to your own PC's clock's time.
