Tropers: Strife 89
Strife89's avatar

Strife89 is an oddball who constantly asks around for feedback and assistance when he gets stumped.

He is a 22-year-old male, currently working part-time, who has been hanging around TV Tropes since around July 2010. His interests include video games, music, Linux, fictional writing, and many other things. He tries (maybe too hard) to get along with anyone he comes across, which sometimes becomes a problem when visiting new IRC networks.

He has contributed a few examples to pages scattered about the wiki, and has launched a page or two.

He has created a spreadsheet to help keep track of his overall progress through every game he's played or ever wanted to play. It's a big list.

Tropes that apply to Strife89

  • ADCD: I tend to be terrible with this, writing a scene or so for what seems like a good story idea and then stuffing it in a folder (be it physical or digital) and hardly ever looking at it again. I even have a few older completed stories that have been long forgotten. (At the moment, I have four stories in progress - two on the Internet - and none are anywhere near completion.)
  • Angrish: Sometimes spouted while playing a difficult game, or when hearing about an event that he feels is over-the-top wrong.
  • Brilliant, but Lazy: So I'm told, on the brilliant part.
  • Captain Obvious: Tends to speak like this. Waaaaaaayyyyyyyyy too often.
  • Chivalrous Pervert
  • Companion Cube: I tend to get fairly attached to my electronics, especially my portable ones - although not to the point that this trope usually refers to; see Crazy-Prepared.
  • Crazy-Prepared: I carry an entire backpack of electronic gear around at *all feasible times*. Most of it is just to keep my favorite gear at my side; although it comes in handy, as I sometimes need them to do a spur-of-the-moment computer repair for someone.
  • Crowning Music of Awesome: I try to arrange a playlist to make whatever I'm doing, be it at home or on the job, much more exciting. Sometimes I change tracks on the fly to match the situation, if something comes up.
  • Determinator: I tend to be like this with computer (especially maintenance/repair) projects, often forfeiting sleep as a result.
  • Drugs Are Bad: Just ask my parents.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Life as a whole seems to be like this for me.
  • Fan Fic: Has written a small handful, and even has a works page for one.
  • Geek
  • Gender Bender: I daydream about this. A lot.
  • The Hero: I daydream about being this too.
  • I Am Not Left-Handed: Inverted; I am left handed! Although I'm more comfortable using my right hand for a few things.
  • Let's Play: Has a few in progress, but none completed. Currently active:
  • Memetic Mutation / Running Gag: Among my local circle of friends, I have spawned a few personal running jokes.
    • He threw Toad into a pit! Explanation
    • Coat Hanger + Laptop = Victory Explanation
    • WHY IS THIS SO HARD?! Expanation
  • Must Have Caffeine: I drink a lot of soda. And (sugary) iced tea.
  • Nothing Exciting Ever Happens Here: Sure, we have a 2-year college, but that's literally *the* highlight for my generation.
  • Old Shame: Looking at some of the old stories mentioned in ADCD, I realize how embarrassingly ridiculous they were. And yet Mom still told me she liked them.
  • Ridiculous Procrastinator: Most of the time, admittedly, but I can make myself work sooner than the last minute much of the time.
  • Sanity Slippage: Can and frequently does occur while playing N+. Especially when Let's Play-ing it.
  • TV Tropes Will Ruin Your Life: Dear God, has it ever.
  • Videogame Caring Potential: Sometimes I go out of my way to do the right thing for the characters. In the case of Pokémon, I rarely swap out team members after the first few badges, even if they're not the best battlers available. In Heart Gold, I almost never run around, as I don't want my Pokemon to have to run to keep up with me *.
  • Wham Episode: My mom's death. My dad's, two years later, was slightly less so.
  • What Are Records?: From time to time I might find myself explaining these, Atari 2600s, floppy disks, etc. .... to someone younger than I. I recently had to explain what a Nintendo DS Phat was. To a child that owned a D Si XL.

Video Games and series enjoyed by Strife 89
  • Super Mario Bros.: What can I say? I grew up with the series and have stuck with it (for the most part) ever since.
    • Currently working on Note: Yoshi's Island DS, Mario and Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story
  • Pokémon: It took a little while for me to get into it back when the craze started, but I have been fortunate enough to enjoy every generation of the series thus far. It's been a fun ride, and personally, I hope there's still more track ahead.
    • Currently working on: Pokemon: White version, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, Pokemon: Heart Gold version, Pokemon: Emerald version, Pokemon: Prism version*
    • Eagerly anticipating: A third version of Gen V, hoping it'll be on the original DS; remakes of Gen III
  • Final Fantasy: I didn't get into this series until 2002, and my introduction game was Final Fantasy IX (although the first game I owned was Final Fantasy VII in 2003, alongside my recently-bought used PS One). Recently, I've taken an interest in the older games, particularly FF 4, 5, and 6; as I didn't get to play 4 or 6 during my youth.
    • Currently working on: Final Fantasy IV DS, Final Fantasy X, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy: The Four Heroes of Light, Final Fantasy XII''
  • Kingdom Hearts: I first got into the series with Chain of Memories on the GBA, before I had access to the PS2. At this writing, I'm in the middle of a long run through all the games I own in the series, at the highest possible difficulty, and in chronological order (going by the storyline), with the exception of Birth By Sleep and re:Chain of Memories (as they didn't become available to me until just after I put down KH 2)
    • Currently working on: Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep (Standard difficulty), Kingdom Hearts: re:Chain of Memories (Proud Mode, borrowed copy), Kingdom Hearts 2 (clearing a few optionals on a Proud run), Kingdom Hearts re:coded Critical Mode run, Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep: Final Mix (Critical Mode, fan translation)
    • Eagerly anticipating: Dream Drop Distance, although it may be a long time after its release before I get to play it.
  • Sonic the Hedgehog: A longtime favorite, I've been playing the Blue Blur's games since the Genesis days, though I missed almost all of his 3D games due to a lack of consoles/money to play/purchase them. To date, Sonic Colors is the only 3D Sonic game that I have played to the credit screen, and the only one I've had a chance to (so far). (Colors is currently tied with Sonic Advance 2 and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 + Knuckles for my most favorite Sonic game ever.)
    • Currently working on: Sonic Rivals, Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure''
    • Eagerly anticipating: Sonic Generations, though I may not ever get to play it; Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2
  • The Legendof Zelda: First game in this series that I ever played was A Link to the Past, and over 6 years passed from my first New Game to my first victory over Ganon. Since then, I have enjoyed many (though not all) of the Zelda games availible.
  • Donkey Kong Country: I can't remember for the life of me what got me started with DKC, but for the longest time I only had the first SNES game. By 2000, I got to enjoy Diddy's Kong Quest, and took a long break from the series. Possibly needless to say, but I was thrilled at the release of Donkey Kong Country Returns.
  • Monster Tale: This Metroidvania developed by Dreamrift is a Spiritual Successor to Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure, and a pretty fun one at that.
    • Currently I'm somewhat stuck in the final area.
  • Cave Story: I first tried out the PC version in 2006, and was instantly hooked. When the WiiWare re-release came out, I bought it immediately. Even though I've beaten the game more than a few times, I yearn for a portable version (several already exist, including the homebrew PSP port and the Nicalis DSi release, but I own neither console).
    • Eagerly Anticipating: Cave Story 3D: Yet another remake, this time for the 3DS, with full polygonal visuals (but the same classic gameplay+physics, I hope). Will be released on a cartridge this time, as opposed to the Nicalis releases being distributed through an Internet connection. It's one of MANY reasons I want a 3DS.
  • Dragon Quest: Talk about a late arrival; my first game in the series is Dragon Quest IX! That hasn't stopped my interest in the series from blossoming into aspirations to play all of the main games. I have yet to finish any of them, though.
    • Currently working on: Dragon Quest IX, Dragon Quest VIII, Dragon Quest V, Dragon Quest VI
  • Metroid: The games have a slight tendency to leave me frustratedly stumped, but that hasn't killed my interest in them so far.
    • Currently working on: Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
  • Ace Attorney: A trial run of the first game (with a little, er, aid) exploded into a strong desire to play every single game in the series. And play I did.
    • Currently working on: Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
    • Eagerly Anticipating: AAI: Miles Edgeworth 2. I've already listened to some of the music on YouTube, and said music *alone* is awesome IMHO.
  • Chrono Trigger: Currently working on the DS re-release. Never got to play the original on my SNES, sadly.
  • Lufia: The first game on the SNES is regarded by me as a beloved classic.
    • Currently working on: Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals
  • Golden Sun
    • Currently working on: Golden Sun (a replay, as I've forgotten many of the plot details), Golden Sun: The Lost Age, Golden Sun: Dark Dawn
  • Frogger: Frogger 3D: He's Back! in particular; I played the PC version of that game to death back in the day.
  • RollerCoaster Tycoon: I was introduced to this series by a class of all things, and grew to like it enough that I picked up the "gold" box set of the first game plus its expansions.
    • Currently working on: Roller Coaster Tycoon + Corkscrew Follies + Loopy Landscapes, Roller Coaster Tycoon 2
  • Super Smash Bros.: I managed to play a round or two of the original one year, and never saw the game again until I got a Gamecube and Melee. These days I can be seen playing Brawl at gaming parties, with friends on either side, kicking my ass to kingdom come - but not without me delivering some painful retribution before the match's end.
    • Currently working on: Super Smash Bros. Brawl: The Subspace Emissary
  • Sly Cooper: While I have never had a chance to finish the second and third games, all three (especially Sly 2) have given me the feeling of actually doing what Sly is. Sucker Punch definitely knows how to create engaging gameplay.
    • Currently working on: Sly Cooper and the Thievious Racoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves
    • Eagerly Anticipating: Sly 4: Thieves In Time (although, once again, I doubt I'll have a PS3 to play it on for a long, long time)
  • Tetris: 'Nuff said. :)
  • N: I have yet to seriously get into the original, but the DS version of N+ got me hooked on the game.
    • Currently working on: N+ (PSP version)
  • Tony Hawk's Pro Skater: I got started with this series on a cousin's N64 (with the first game), and later got a copy of the first and third games on my PS1. I've been hooked on the classic games ever since (though two of the DS games are pretty good IMO).
    • Currently working on nothing in particular.
  • Digital: A Love Story A short, but powerful, "visual novel" sort of game that takes place entirely at a simulated computer.
  • Runman: Race Around the World: A game all about running for the joy of running.
  • There are many others, but at this writing, I've thought of none of them!
