Trivia With Their Own Pages

  • Acting for Two: Every comedy duo in the show except for the Venture boys themselves (Monarch and Dr. Girlfriend, 21 and 24, the Murderous Moppets, Billy and White, Watch and Ward, Doe and Cardholder) are voiced by writers Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick; Publick also voices Hank, Sergeant Hatred, Action Man, Col. Gentleman, Ned, the Pirate, and Dr. Henry Killinger.
  • Budget-Busting Element: The season two premiere "Powerless in the Face of Death" uses the licensed song "Everybody's Free (To Feel Good)" by Rozalla in its opening montage. The creators had to fight tooth and nail with Cartoon Network as, according to creator Doc Hammer, the licensing cost 1/8 of the season's entire budget. They included some Biting-the-Hand Humor in both a later episode and the DVD Commentary (which includes a voicemail from a network exec initially denying them the money) poking fun at the situation. It was only after Hammer played them the scene cut to some (intentionally) awful music he had written that they agreed to pay for the rights.
  • Creator's Pest:
    • Despite the authors having strong creative control, Hammer and Publick said that the Murderous Moppets were a pain to fit into stories once they were introduced, and that it became a struggle to find a place for them. However, upon finding out that most of the fandom loathed the Moppets, Hammer and Publick found new inspiration by making the Moppets hated in story.
    • Baron Ünderbheit quickly became one according to creator commentary in the early seasons. Originally intended to be the more threatening, competent villain to contrast the Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain Monarch, they found him to be too much of a generic Evil Overlord that they struggled to mesh with the rest of the series vibe. He gets written off in season two's "Love Bheits" (otherwise one of the creators' least favorite episodes) and remains there for two-and-a-half seasons until he's brought back with some purpose as a fitting member of the Revenge Society. "All This and Gargantua-2" was planned to have a scene where he'd outright declare that he never fit in anywhere except his homeland and ask to be sent back, but it was cut, leaving him with an Uncertain Doom.
  • Cross-Dressing Voices:
    • Dr. Girlfriend is voiced by Doc Hammer, who uses the most masculine voice that he can manage.
    • Similarly, Billy's Mom is voiced by Hammer, using pretty much the exact same voice for him and her.
  • Executive Meddling:
    • Long-time Adult Swim president Mike Lazzo was frequently a positive example, accepting the creators' slow creative process (with as long as three years passing between seasons at times) and went to bat for them several times, approving episodes/ideas that other producers and network executives wanted to veto.
    • Michael Ouweleen took over after Lazzo stepped down in 2019, canceling the show after it had previously been renewed following season seven in 2018. Co-creator of Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Ouweleen is on the record as being upset that The Venture Bros. got to continue on when Birdman was canceled. He used the show's cancelation as an opportunity to push the Birdman spinoff Birdgirl, leading to much emnity in the VB fanbase toward Birdgirl.
  • Harpo Does Something Funny: According to the creators, Cristin Milioti, who plays Sirena, was given a somewhat loose leash in terms of her dialogue, with an entire segment (the scene where she claims that if she ruled the world, she would ban Rocco's mother to prevent her from giving birth to him) being ad-libbed.
  • International Co Production: Digital eMation both animates and co-produces each season with the US production teams.
  • The Other Darrin: Professor Impossible has the most voices actors out of all the characters. Peter McCulloch voiced him in the pilot, Stephen Colbert played the part for two episodes in the first two seasons, then, due to Colbert not being available, Jackson Publick voiced him in a single season 3 episode, before Bill Hader took the part for three season 4 episodes. Finally, Colbert came back for "All This and Gargantua-2".
  • Real-Life Relative: Doc Hammer's ex-wife, Lisa, voiced Triana Orpheus. She was Put on a Bus and never came back after season four, coinciding with the couple's divorce.
  • Screwed by the Network: After initially renewing the series following season seven in 2018, Adult Swim head (and Venture Bros fan/friend of the creators) Mike Lazzo stepped down in 2019 and Michael Ouweleen took over. Lazzo frequently stood up for the The Venture Bros., accepting its slow creative process and allowing episodes/ideas that some of the other producers were against. Ouweleen, co-creator of Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law who is on record being upset with The Venture Bros. carrying on when Harvey Birdman was canceled, and took the opportunity to kill The Venture Bros. and promote Birdman-spinoff Birdgirl.
  • Shrug of God: After an episode was made that strongly implied if not stated outright who the boys' mother was, the creators said that they're still not sure themselves whether or not she is, as they don't plan too far ahead with episodes and it just sort of happened.
  • Throw It In!:
    • Doc Hammer commented that it is impossible to stop H. John Benjamin when he wants to ad-lib, and as a result his dialogue is a middle ground between the original script and Benjamin's ad-libs.
    • Toby Huss (who plays Treister) did his takes in a very different way than Hammer and Publick intended—he was originally written to be a relatively straight character, but Huss played him as a complete loon. However, the creators loved the new take so much that they started writing Treister around Huss's performance, and admitted that Huss's version of the lines they wrote were frequently even crazier than what they intended.
  • Troubled Production: The Venezuelan Spanish dub, big time: Besides the quality of that dub wasn't great at first place, only 26 episodes were dubbed, partly because Cartoon Network canceled the Latin American version of [adult swim] and partly because Dean's voice actor retired from voice acting at the middle of the series, so he was hastly replaced in the remaining episodes. While the series was resumed in a different network, it was broadcasted sub-only instead.
  • At the 2010 SDCC Venture Bros panel, Patrick Warburton revealed that he drives a '69 Dodge Charger. Apparently his son found it online and insisted that he had to get it.
