Trivia / Power Rangers Dino Fury

Go To

  • Accidentally Correct Zoology: In 2021 skull fragments from a type of Mosasaur were found in Hell Creeknote .
  • Acting in the Dark: Hunter Deno didn't know who Amelia's parents were supposed to be until they shot the episodes where it was revealed.
    • None of the cast were aware which Ranger color they were playing until filming started.
  • Actor Allusion: At the end of "Unexpected Guest", Mick mentions that he's thinking of opening up a steakhouse in his home galaxy. His actor, Kelson Henderson, runs the same kind of restaurant in New Zealand.
  • Approval of God: Several of the Ryusoulgers have been positive towards the Season.
  • Cast the Runner-Up: Tessa Rao had initially auditioned for J-Borg.
  • The Cast Showoff: Jane's tap routine in "Serious Business" was almost certainly included as an excuse to show off Kira Josephson's skill in the field, being a professional tap dancer and choreographer.
  • Channel Hop: Netflix is now premiering new episodes, instead of releasing them only after Nickelodeon has aired them in the US. It also releases much earlier in the United Kingdom/Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand as a result.
    • Season 2 will exclusively premiere on Netflix.
  • Character Outlives Actor: Lord Zedd returns, now voiced by Andrew Laing, due to the fact that the voices of the monsters are still voiced by local New Zealanders, however the passing of Robert Axelrod in 2019 possibly didn't help either.
  • Creator's Favorite Episode: Simon Bennet has stated his favorite scene from Season 2 is the one where Fern and Izzy reconcile after an argument and Izzy secretly informs Fern about her being a Ranger.
    • Hunter Deno’s favourite is the series’ penultimate episode.
  • Defictionalization: For the month of December 2021, a phone hotline based on the one the Rangers set up for civilians to report on Sporix beasts was set up for real (though rather than the 555 number in the show, it was 1-833-DNOFURY). Calling it would give you prerecorded messages by Zayto and other Rangers to report a Sporix attack, learn more about the Rangers, hear music from Javi, and others (unless you were born after January 2004, in which case it'll hang up since you'd be under the age of 18).
  • Development Gag:
    • As revealed by someone on the production team, the reason that Draknarok has to keep reminding his allies what his name is during New Recruits is because the writers realized it was never mentioned in the initial script for the episode, so when they did ADR for the monsters they decided to cram it in as much as they could to make fun of the initial slip up.
    • Zayto's Super Mode (and the counterpart of Max RyusoulRed) is called the Dino Knight Armor, after the Working Title for the series.
  • Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Lily from "Winning Attitude" has CHARGE syndrome note  just like her actress, real-life Special Olympian Sarah Dalton.
  • Executive Meddling: The reason that the theme song is so short is because Nickelodeon's policy, since Power Rangers Beast Morphers, is that intros need to be 30 seconds or shorter.
  • Hide Your Pregnancy: Siobhan Marshall's pregnancy was hidden via having her belly out of frame whenever she filmed scenes in the stasis tank, filmed in close up shots or a using a body double for anything that required a full shot, wearing baggy clothes or long flowy blouses, or have Santaura be in Void Queen form constantly so she could simply voice the character. Later subverted for the Time Skip to six months later, where Santaura is pregnant In-Universe so they no longer have to hide it.
  • The Other Marty: Izzy was originally played by Alexandra Nuñez; however between the leaked cast info and the official announcements she was replaced by Tessa Rao.
  • Playing Against Type: Josephine Davison portrayed/voiced two villains in previous series (Morgana and Itassis). Here, she voices Solon, who is on the side of the heroes.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: The omission of untransformed fights this season is due to the fact that these are normally handled by the 2nd unit, while the 1st unit focuses on the Wacky Wayside Tribe. But since the latter has been made Out of Focus, the 1st unit has to handle scenes with the main cast in order to be doing something.
  • Role Reprise: Kelson Henderson reprises his role as Mick Kanic from Power Rangers Ninja Steel, and Teuila Blakely reprises her role as Commander Shaw from Power Rangers Beast Morphers.
  • Show Accuracy/Toy Accuracy: The Power Key toys packed in with the action figures are very much downgraded from their in-show/Sentai counterpart; they lack the function to fold into/pop out from a "dino head" mode, and are mostly-flat panels with stickers printed on them rather than being 3D-molded and painted. The versions included with the Zords have much better molding quality and paint, while also adding a ball joint for when being used as a head, but still lack the flip-open functionality or dinosaur head mode.
  • Troubled Production:
    • According to an interview, Dino Fury ended up experiencing some difficulty in being written since it was being written while the Sentai was still airing and they didn't know how the footage would play out. This is an issue the franchise has had in the past, with the hiatus between Power Rangers RPM and Power Rangers Samurai and the seasons from there on being stretched out over two years giving more of a gap for production to use until Dino Fury skipped over several Sentai to use the most recent one.
    • Bennett revealed that due to the contract with Nickelodeon being set for one year at the time production started, Dino Fury was originally written out as a single 22 episode season. When the second season was set up to be streamed solely to Netflix, the episode count doubled and in order to keep the structure of the seasons consistent a fair amount of filler episodes had to be slotted in.
    • The series was filmed during the COVID-19 Pandemic. While New Zealand has been lauded as having some of the best responses and recoveries from the pandemic, those are due to its strict lockdowns—two have which went into effect during filming as a precaution, causing production to shut down for three days and later one week.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Much like with Beast Morphers, many what-ifs pertain to the four skipped Sentai (ToQger, Zyuohger, Kyuranger, and LupinRanger vs PatRanger).
      • Jason Bischoff, one of the show's former brand managers, revealed after his departure from the franchise in early 2020 that he had done a proposal for a possible adaptation of Kyuranger titled Supernova. Blaze and Roxy (as in the real ones, not their evil counterparts) were going to become the Silver and Pink Rangers respectively in this adaptation.
    • The season name was almost the much speculated Dino Knights, but, according to a response from executive producer Simon Bennett, Hasbro had final say on the matter.
    • No crossover ended up being filmed due to the pandemic.
    • The series was initially written to be 22 episodes long - which means at least half of it is filler added in after the show was picked up for another season on Netflix. However it hasn't been said which episodes were added later, so one has to wonder which subplots and character development notes would have been lost without them.
    • Simon Bennett posted an image to Instagram that showed the characters in the early planning stage in 2019note .
      • While most of the key character elements were already in place back then, only Amelia, Pop-Pop, and Mucus ended up keeping their names all the way to the show.
      • Zayto was originally planned to have tensions with Javi over who would be a better leader, and a brotherly relationship with Ollie. Both of those aspects were eventually transferred over to his dynamic with Aiyon.
      • Husband and wife Tarrick and Santaura were originally brother and sister Kent and Olivia.
      • The role that would become Dr. Lani Akana was originally meant to be the Rangers' mentor, but was felt to be too similar to Commander Shaw from Beast Morphers, so Solon was created as the mentor figure instead (source tweet).
    • Pictures from the first screen tests show Amelia with blonde hair while Javi had blonde/light colored tips to his hair. The change for Amelia could've been to obfuscate her relation to Santaura, who has platinum blonde hair.
    • Fern and Izzy's goodbye originally had them kiss. The kiss was in the script and filmed but was edited out when Bennett was told "there can be no lip-kissing in Power Rangers", which was a surprise to him.
    • Bennett confirmed that Warden Garcia was originally written to be Sheriff Garcia and the Parks HQ an actual sheriff's office, but as writing happened during the height of the 2020 Black Lives Matter Movement, everyone agreed that it wasn't the time to have a cop as a major supporting character and rewrote the role. This does explain why despite his title, Garcia otherwise acts and is treated like the head of police rather than a park ranger.
  • Word of God: Simon Bennett confirmed on Twitter that Kyuranger was skipped for having too many Rangers, even stating that it would be nearly impossible to thoroughly develop and tell the stories of that many rangers within a season of Power Rangers. He also confirmed that LupinRanger VS PatRanger was skipped because Rangers can't be criminals (the LupinRangers) and that Rangers as cops, as he states, are "problematic in today's climate" (the PatRangers).
  • Working Title: As revealed by director Simon Bennett, the title was Dino Knights, fitting with the heroes of Kishiryunote  Sentai Ryusoulger. By now, Hasbro have final approval of all names, and it was ultimately changed to Dino Fury.
  • Writer Revolt: The increased prominence of the Morphin’ Masters was the brainchild of outgoing producer Judd Lynn, which no-one was happy about. So the one episode in which the Masters play an actual role in the present portrays them as the All-Powerful Bystander trope, while the next season makes them Not So Omnipotent After All, being kidnapped by Zedd easily and being unable to revive Zayto for more than a short amount of time.
  • Written-In Infirmity: Santaura being pregnant in the series finale was the result of her actress herself being around nine months pregnant upon filming the final episodes.
