- The Character Died with Him: A rather strange case of this trope applies to the remake, whereas the original ending transitions from the Bakamatsu period to the present day where a father and his son are visiting a statue dedicated to Ryoma as the father gives a heartwarming speech to his son on how he should follow in his footsteps until he decides on the path he wants to take in his life just as their predecessors followed Ryoma's, the scene is omitted entirely from the remake most likely due to the father being voiced by the late Keiji Fujiwara.
- Creator-Driven Successor: Was officially considered this to Kenzan upon its release due to its unconnected story, but fans considered it to be a sequel over time due to sharing a historical setting and the incorporation of swordplay. The studio has more or less adopted this stance as well, always discussing the two as a duo on the occasions they've brought it up.
- Keep Circulating the Tapes: The original 2014 version of the game was delisted from the PlayStation Store at some point prior to the release of the 2023 remake.
- No Dub for You: The Kiwami remake does not have an English dub, which producer Masayoshi Yokoyama attributes to the game's usage of Bakumatsu era vocabulary and speech, causing translated lines to be incredibly long.
- No Export for You: The 2014 original release was released only in Japan.
- The Other Darrin: The Kiwami remake comes with some changes to the cast, with characters from newer games replacing the old, most notably the three Dojima Liutenants, Joon-gi Han, Kanji Koshimizu, Tianyou Zhao, Akira Mabuchi, and Koichi Adachi. Naturally, the characters who got replaced also had their actors replaced.
- Playing Against Type: Some unusual examples, as the characters in the game are being "played by" characters from the mainline Yakuza games and while some are cast in roles that match up well to the original characters, others go against expectation. For instance Ryoma's stern but affectionate adoptive father Yoshida Toyo is cast as Shintaro Kazama, Kiryu's stern but affectionate adoptive father. However Takechi Hanpeita, Ryoma's adoptive brother turned rival is not played by Akira Nishikiyama, Kiryu's adoptive brother turned rival, but rather Keiji Shibusawa, a character who (at least initially) had no personal relationship to Kiryu while Nishikiyama is in the game as a different character. Similarly Ryoma's love interest Oryo is not played by either of Kiryu's love interests but rather Yuki, an entirely platonic acquaintance of Kiryu's.
- Promoted Fanboy: The Elite General Trooper Cards are based on big-name fans of the series. Kenny Omega had previously played all but a select few titles in the Yakuza series, and considered himself elated when he got the chance to be a Trooper card in the remake. Nyatasha Nyanners got into the series with Yakuza 0 and has been hooked since, even naming her mascot "Goro" after Majima, and was similarly hyped to be in the game.
- Recycled Script: While its greater details are very distinct, the game's general plot is extremely similar to Kenzan. A Historical Domain Character Expy of Kazuma Kiryu loses someone close to them and is framed for their murder. They go undercover, and following a Time Skip, they are revealed to live under an alias. Then, they discover someone else using their real name and attempt to get to the bottom of the situation, only to discover that nothing is what it seems.
- Remade for the Export: Sega didn't release Ishin! outside of Japan until the 2023 remake.
