Commonplace in the fandom, considering the vast selection of characters who've never interacted due to early eliminations or coming from different casts:

  • Especially in the early years, the fandom had a subset that seemed dedicated to crack pairings (including Fandom VIPs Winter-Rae and The Kobold Necromancer, though the latter's most famous work mostly uses canon couples). Izzy/Ezekiel, Noah/Katie, DJ/Eva, Tyler/Gwen, Cody/Bridgette, Cody/Sadie and DJ/Sierra all became fairly popular despite having little or no canon basis.
  • Whenever he isn't being shipped with Gwen, Trent is sometimes shipped with Courtney despite their very minimal interaction. This is mostly due to Gwuncan shippers still wanting the two's previous relationships to find love regardless.
  • Harold/Sadie used to be shipped a lot, due to the lingering looks she would give him in the background.
  • Cody/Beth used to be shipped due to the episode "Paintball Deer Hunter" having the episode end with Beth kissing Cody on cheek, which led a lot of viewers (at the time anyway) to think they were together. People were genuinely shocked when this turned out not to be the case and how both got other love interests (debatable in Cody's case) in the second season they participated in.
  • Even though Lightning and Anne Maria barely interact with each other (due to being on separate teams), many fans ship them with each other. This ship likely came about because fans wanted to get Anne Maria out of the way of the Zoey/Mike/Anne Maria Love Triangle, and due to a combination of the Women Prefer Strong Men trope and Lightning proclaiming himself to be a Chick Magnet in his biography, Lightning was settled upon as the best choice to be paired with Anne Maria.
  • Amy's line to Sammy of "Topher thinks you're fat!" in "A Blast from the Past" has led a fair share of the fanbase to believe Sammy has a crush on Topher.
  • Amy herself is occasionally shipped with Scott, owing to their similar jerkass natures and the idea of Scott's love for pushy women manifesting itself through Amy.
  • Despite not talking much, Topher/Ella are often shipped due to their hammy personalities. They are huge online thanks to DeviantArt artist, Galactic-Red-Beauty.
  • While never really talking to each other, Dave/Sammy (similarly to Dave/Ella) is sometimes shipped. The fact they both had the worst written arcs of the season might have something to do with it.
  • Staci and Rodney are shipped due to the thought, Rodney would be so lovestruck with her, he wouldn't mind or notice the fact she's lying.
  • Courtney and Brick are shipped due to the fact he's the closest thing the show's got to a gentlemen (a geniune one, not a fake one like Alejandro). Also, many fans think he could endure Courtney's bossiness.
  • Before Alejandro was introduced, many people would ship Heather with Justin or Noah. Both of whom were seen as male villians at the time.
  • Wayne and Julia are shipped by many fans despite not having many interactions in season 1 of the reboot, but one factor might be Julia being the only other person Wayne gives a nickname to other than Raj. Another reason might be that Wayne's (not so) Heterosexual Life-Partner Raj is in a relationship with Bowie, who is Julia's Arch-Enemy throughout the season, so many might be curious about how these two couples would interact with each other. Needless to say, many Wayne/Julia shippers (or at least those who didn't abandon the pairing for MK/Julia) were enthusiastic about the considerable amount of interactions they got in the season 2 of the reboot, even if they were not particularly flirty in nature.
  • Zee and Scary Girl are shipped despite their lack of interactions due to Zee seeming to be the least scared of Scary Girl out of all of the Island (2023) contestants. Within less than a week after the release of Island (2023), the pair had already began receiving fanart.
