Kyuusei Sentai Wakusaver is a Sentai-style parody Toku series created by adult video company GIGA.

The GIDES are an evil group of Alien Invaders from the Andromeda galaxy who go from planet to planet gathering data on their lifeforms before destroying them when they're no longer of use. When the GIDES come to Earth, a space rabbit named Prapine recruits five humans from Earth to each wield the power of a different planet in the solar system and form the Kyuusei Sentai Wakusaver to defend the Earth against the forces of GIDES.

The first five episodes were released weekly on YouTube from July 2nd to July 30th. The sixth episode is a porno and was released on Giga's website on August 6th. A DVD for the complete series was released on August 27th. Obviously, given our policy, this page will only be discussing the five family-friendly episodes of the series, barring any critical plot points that happen in sixth.

It would later receive a second season, which premiered on YouTube on October 29th, 2021.

Tropes:

  • Aliens Are Bastards: The GIDES, being a group of Human Aliens from the Andromeda Galaxy who want to invade Earth.
  • Boss Subtitles: Whenever a major villain first appears, these pop up to introduce them.
  • Butt-Monkey: Prapine, who gets manhandled by the GIDES mooks quite often in the series.
  • Captain Ersatz:
    • The Wakusavers are obviously meant to be stand-ins for a generic Super Sentai team, with their suits resembling a combination of the Carrangers, Boukengers and the Patrangers, though the numbering on their helmets brings to mind the Choudenshi Bioman.
    • The GIDES seem to be based off to the Reconstructive Experiment Empire Mess from Choushinsei Flashman, particularly in how their goal is to gather data on various lifeforms with the aim of creating the ultimate body for their leader. One of their executives even looks like Lee Keflen, the Evil Genius of Mess.
    • Prapine meanwhile seems more based on Luna and Artemis from Sailor Moon, even wearing a Sailor Fuku as a nod to it.
    • As the leader of an evil organization who communicates through his faction's symbol and keeps his true form hidden, Emperor Giga GIDES definitely takes some cues from the Great Leader.
    • One of the GIDES kaijin looks like the Predator.
  • The Chosen Many: The Wakusavers all appear to be this, as each holds an object that's precious to them that's really a brace changer that lets them become a Wakusaver.
  • Disappeared Dad: Yuuki's father was an astronaut who disappeared on a mission to space.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set: A variant. Otoha first tries reaching Reion, the candidate for Green Earth, by taking over his computer to send him a video message. Leon, a salaryman working at his father's company, ignores her and tries to keep on working until GIDES mooks burst into the room.
  • Downer Ending: The fifth episode ends with the forces of GIDES defeating and capturing the Wakusavers, with Otoha being the only one who gets away thanks to Prapine sacrificing himself.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The final episode of season 2 does this in a really ridiculous manner. From the point that Yuuki ends his final speech, the Wakusavers laugh together for 45 seconds straight. Not counting all the laughing they were doing beforehand.
  • Five-Man Band: As a five man Sentai team, the Wakusavers form one.
    • Yuuki Katori/Red Mars is The Leader of the team.
    • Satoshi Mizusaki/Blue Mercury, a stoic photographer, is The Lancer.
    • Leon Kido/Green Jupiter, a geeky salaryman who loves his computer, is The Smart Guy.
    • Makoto Hibino/Yellow Sun is The Big Guy, given how his ballet moves make him great at fighting.
    • Otoha Nishina/Pink Earth, the lone female and the one who gathered the team, is The Smurfette.
    • Prapine is the Team Pet as their animal companion.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Larjula tells the Wakusavers they look delicious in her first encounter with the entire team.
  • In Medias Res: Each episode of the first season shows a different Wakusaver being recruited, before flashing forward to the Wakusavers fighting against GIDES.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Larjula seems to be modeled around the "sexy villainess" archetype, wearing a Stripperiffic outfit that even shows off part of her buttcheeks.
  • No One Sees the Boss: The Emperor of GIDES only communicates through a swirling projection of the GIDES emblem and doesn't actually appear in person.
  • Odd Name Out: The Wakusavers are all based on planets from Earth's solar system except for Yellow Sun.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: The second GIDES monster appears to be vampire themed, and is able to drain the Wakusavers powers by biting them.
  • Painting the Medium: There are a few little details that give the series the appearance of an actual Super Sentai program broadcast for children. Most notably, at the top-left corner of the screen is a clock indicating that the episodes are supposed to start airing in the Sunday morning 7:30 a.m. time block.
  • Porn with Plot: While 5/6 episodes don't feature any pornographic content whatsoever, the sixth episode is a porno and serves as the conclusion to the series.
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Makoto Hibino is a devoted ballet dancer. At the same time, he also managed to fight off a GIDES monster all by himself, partly by using ballet moves.
  • Sentai: Barring the porn final episode, Wakusaver is a fairly standard take on the concept, being about a team of five multi-colored heroes assembled to fight monsters.
  • Standard Evil Organization Squad: The Three Demon Lords of GIDES, who lead the forces of GIDES on the field.
  • Transformation Trinket: The Planet Cubes, which the Wakusavers use to transform by inserting them into their brace changers.
  • Villains Act, Heroes React: As is standard for Toku, the villains attack first and our heroes go to fight them.
