Sandbox / Good Colors Evil Colors Wick Check 2

Go To

Back in 2019, Good Colors, Evil Colors was taken to TRS for misuse. However, no massive changes were made. It's suspected now that the decay has continued, with the same issue occurring once again: the lack of contrast being made in the examples. The subtrope list is also suspect, with the tropes themselves not requiring a contrast but simply being about the alignment of specific characters.

Wicks: 50/50

    open/close all folders

    Contrast present
  1. Frills of Justice: Pink is the team leader with Red usually being The Lancer, all black usually means Dark Magical Girl.
  2. Technicolor Blade: Villains tend to have black or red colored weapon, while the good guys opt for white and other good colors as seen in Good Colors, Evil Colors.
  3. Animation.Squirrel And Hedgehog: Red = Good and Blue = Wolf.
  4. Anime. The Animatrix: The captured machine's eyes turn from red to green after he is converted.
  5. Characters.Godzilla: As an Evil Counterpart to Godzilla, his own signature Breath Weapon, the Corona Beam, has a vibrant orange color that's accompanied by a slight reddish outline around it, in contrast to Godzilla's blue Atomic Breath. When he attacked Godzilla with his Space Claw, the energy that was generated from his physical blow is also colored red, whereas Godzilla's own strikes onto SpaceGodzilla's emitted blue colored energy.
  6. Characters. The Cleveland Show: Angel Hall wears the purest of sky blue, while Devil Oates wears a sinister, blood red.
  7. Characters.Loli Rock: Darker colours are bad, lighter are good. Whenever a character uses Black Magic, their magic glow turns darker and what's usually white turns black. This is actually the most blatant sign Lev is working for Gramorr towards the end of Season 2- his magic is still dark-coloured. note
  8. ComicBook.Scion: CrossGen's usual. Gold is good, red is evil. Low context, but there's a contrast.
  9. ComicBook.Ultraheroes: The Ultraheroes all wear blue, while the Bad-7 all wear red.
  10. Film. The Professional: Generally inverted. Stansfield is always seen wearing a beige suit and white shirt, while Leon is often seen in a black peacoat, black pants, black beanie and black tea shades. Low context about the morality, but counts.
  11. Film.Wild Wind: The Nazis are Red and Black and Evil All Over, and the partisans wear earth tones like green and brown.
  12. Franchise.Fire Emblem: * Good Colors, Evil Colors: Blue is for good guys, red is for bad guys. Green is for allied units who are not under your control, while yellow is situational: in Genealogy of the Holy War, it represents neutral units who are not allied with your nor the enemy; in Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn, it represents partner units that you can give indirect orders to but not directly control; and in Warriors, Three Houses, Warriors: Three Hopes, and Engage it represents an alternate hostile faction during a Mêlée à Trois.
  13. Literature.Bawang Merah Bawang Putih: Bawang Putih is associated with the pure white color and she's a good girl, whereas Bawang Merah is portrayed with red color, just missing out black to show that she's evil (there were no indications that the stepmother wore black).
  14. Literature.Cruel Beauty: Shade, whose eyes are deeply blue and Ignifex with his red eyes with cat-slit pupils appear to embody this trope. However, it is revealed that the morality systems of both characters are far more complex as Shade caused the deaths of Ignifex's previous eight wives in order to end the Sundering, while Ignifex, despite being an apparent evil overlord is not as cruel or hearthless as he is made out to be. Perhaps double subverted, given that when the two parts of Marcus Valerius's soul reunite, his eyes are back to being blue.
  15. Literature.Urban Dragon: Determined by a dragon’s color scheme. Arkay is blue, while the Contessa is red
  16. Manga.Appleseed: The eyes of Briareos and other cyborgs changed in colour from red to green between the first and second movies, so that we could see when they were Brainwashed and Crazy thanks to the ominous red glow.
  17. Music.Celldweller: For the Unshakeable music video, the energy that Klayton's music spreads colors the city a vibrant blue, while the aura of Scardonia is an angry red. At the end, Klayton (and his Humongous Mecha) appear to face off.
  18. Recap.ALZI Production Dark Supergirl: Blue Is Heroic: The color of Supergirl's eye beams are blue in contrast to Dark Supergirl's red eye beams.
  19. Recap.Miraculous Ladybug S 02 E 17 Reverser: Marc wears a multicolor shirt, and his name is a pun on the French word for "rainbow". As Reverser, however, his whole design is black and white.
  20. Recap. The Muppet Show S 3 E 22: Discussed by Kermit and Roy Rogers in the dressing room sketch. Rogers talks about how the hero in Westerns wears a white hat while the bad guys wear black hats. Rogers goes on to say that the hero is also the best yodeler, and when he beats Kermit at a yodeling contest, Kermit mentions that he's going to get fitted for a black hat.
  21. Theatre.Black Friday: Wiggly's paranormal influence is represented as a Sickly Green Glow, while the more mundane, human evil represented by Uncle Wiley, Linda Monroe and the rioting shoppers is a dim red Infernal Background. The positive forces of human rationality associated with General MacNamara and PEIP are associated with blue lighting and/or saturated, natural white light. MacNamara even describes leaving Earth behind for Wiggly's dimension as going "out of the blue, into the black". And yes, in keeping with the Twisted Christmas theme, this means that the "evil" colors in this musical are Christmas colors. (Note that this is a direct contrast with The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals, where the alien mind virus' presence was marked by blue light and "blue shit".)
  22. VideoGame.Armello: Light green and blue represent the purest form of the Wyld, while purple and black are the colors of the corrupting Rot.
  23. VideoGame.Devil Survivor: The battle UI changes colors depending on the affiliation of the character in question. Blue is for your party, red is for enemies, and purple is for NPC allies. This is light on context, but there does seem to be morality at play.
  24. VideoGame.Spirit Of The North: Blue is the color of the guardian of the Northern Lights and her powers, therefore good. Red is the color of the plague, therefore bad. This can also be seen in the murals, with the ones depicting favorable moments in the setting's history being blue, while those depicting catastrophes are red.
  25. WebAnimation.Duel Of The Fates: Pre-redemption Sunset Shimmer used a red lightsaber. Post-redemption, Sunset, on the other hand, uses a teal-colored one.
  26. WesternAnimaton.Jimmy Two Shoes: The demonic populace of Miseryville usually have warm colors like red, orange, and darker shades of various other colors, while Jimmy has cool colors like yellow, white, and light green.
  27. WesternAnimation.Metajets: The Metajets team have bright-hued personalized paint jobs on their jets. Black Cloud jets are always jet black.
  28. WesternAnimation. The Sunshine Makers: The happy gnomes are dressed up in bright, happy colors while the evil gnomes look drab and grey.
  29. WesternAnimation.Watership Down: Film only, and they have a fun way of inverting the Red Eyes, Take Warning subtrope. All the heroes have reddish eyes — they're rabbits after all. And we get so used to this over the course of the film that the minute we see the Efrafan rabbits' blue eyes, we sense something sinister about them.

    No color contrast present
  1. DarthWiki.Blissrune: All stuck to their evil interpretations. Crimeida's the crimson red Ax-Crazy Omnicidal Maniac, Ebonsela's the purple and black comic-ish card-carrying villainess, and the white Pearelei is the holy magical zealot.
  2. Recap.Dinotrux S 03 E 09 Blayde: Blayde's color scheme is primarily black, not unlike D-Structs'. Her minions are similarly an uncolored grey.
  3. TabletopGame.Pandemic: Sickly Green Glow: Zig-Zagged by the game art: while no disease, surprisingly, is color-coded green (instead, blue and other colors generally not associated with disease are used), the back of each infection card is painted black and green—as are the faces of the Epidemic player cards.

Morality Not Addressed or At Play
  1. Characters.Mask Or Menace: In a homage to her canon, during the clone plot, Veronica's clone Vee wears bright red as a contrast to Veronica's blue.
  2. Characters.Master Of Orion: While their ship designs are identical to that of the Humans, their color scheme is mark darker and more menacing, reflecting their militant nature. The diplomatic Humans choose gleaming white as their color (only occasionally adding some gray), while the Terrans paint their ships dark gray and add red lines and symbols. They're more militant, but they don't appear evil.
  3. Film. The Great Race: Not evil, per se, but Fate's colour scheme is all blacks and greys, whereas valiant Leslie's is wholly white.
  4. Series.Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger Vs Keisatsu Sentai Patranger: While neither sentai are evil per se, the police-themed Patrangers suits are dominantly white, while the thief-themed Lupinrangers suits are almost all black.
  5. VideoGame.Pathway: Disintegrators used by adventurers shoot blue beams. Those used by Teslaborgs fire green and red ones.
  6. ''VideoGame.Strike Suit Zero: Color-Coded Armies: Yours are blue. Theirs are red. Going off of the other tropes, there doesn't seem to be an actual morality split here.
  7. VideoGame.Toy Commander: The goal in the "Hunt and Seek" mission is to shoot all the red figures. If you shoot any of the blue figures, you'll have to shoot all the red ones again from the beginning.
  8. VideoGame.Versus Umbra: Most protagonist and allies wear red clothes, while human enemies wear blue clothes and/or have blue hair. Being an enemy does not mean being evil; morality doesn't seem to be part of the game.
  9. WesternAnimation.Wacky Races 2017: : Zig-zagged, due to being the same gender, but Penelope Pitstop and her sister, Pandora, look exactly alike save for different hair and eye colors, and a flashback confirms that these are their natural colors. Pandora is mostly purple while Penelope is mostly pink.
  10. Webcomic.Weak Hero: In the flashback explaining the history of Daehyeon Middle School, the pacifistic Jake is showing wearing a white hoodie as he faces off against the ambitious Naksung Fam, all of whom are wearing shades of black.

    ZCE
  1. Characters.Waking Up From The Dream: Black and White, representing his alternate personalities Kimia and Milican respectively.
  2. Literature. The Postman: True-blue postal carriers vs. camouflaged Holnists.
  3. TabletopGame.Epic Card Game: And not just for the color-coded allegiances. The art of the factions tend to follow these tropes.

    Other/Unsortable
  1. AudioPlay.Reflets D Acide: The result of the "Show Alignment" spell. The target will be colored in a certain color, which suggests a precise alignement. While a specific contrast is not spelled out, it seems clear that there are different colors for the different alignments. It acknowledges that there's some variance. However, I don't know about putting it in the first folder.
  2. Characters.Dinotrux: Although they are Color-Coded for Your Convenience, their colored accents are rather small and extremely muted compared to any of the more heroic characters. I'm not sure that having muted colors really counts for this
  3. Film.Violent Night: Santa's Nice List uses gold font, while his Naughty List is colored red. IDK if this counts since the factions themselves aren't color-coded, Santa is just separating them that way.
  4. Series.Da Vincis Demons: Many characters have their own theme colors in their clothing that match their personality and the amount of bad they are. The Medicis are red, blue or yellow, while the opposing family Pazzi is all green. The Pope and everyone in Vatican are white and gold, while the Officers of Night and the Rome army wear all black, and so do Riario and Lupo Mercuri, because they're bad. The colors seem too variable, especially if they're personality-based. The example also doesn't really get into all of the morality splits.
  5. Recap.Friends S 2 E 2 The One With The Breast Milk: The "Hombre Guy" wears a black cowboy outfit and Joey is eventually forced to wear a completely white version. Not sure where to put this, there's no morality at play because it's just a perfume store conflict, but it does play on this trope...
