I'm concerned that Don't Make Me Destroy You is being misused for any time a characters says something along the lines of "Don't make me _ you".

Per the description, the trope requires that two characters who are in conflict have an obvious power imbalance or advantage/disadvantage. In this confrontation, the more powerful/advantaged character wants to avoid fighting ergo, they give a warning that any ensuing fight will result in their opponent being beaten. Badly.

  • Fanfic.Relic Of The Future: When King orders Jaune to leave Emerald with him to be executed, he refuses, knowing that he could take everyone in the room without a problem. He gives King every opportunity to back down, outright telling him "You don't want to do this. Please reconsider."
  • Fanfic. To My Death I Fight: Isshin, upon hearing Nui - who has traveled to Karakura Town specifically to see him - say how she should kill his daughters since they're "holding him back", grabs her by the throat, momentarily sheds his "disguise" as a normal human and threatens her to never, EVER try to act upon her words lest he use his full power to destroy her; Nui wisely decides to retreat but would hold a serious grudge against him for making her feel fear for years to come.
  • Literature.Small Favor: Eldest Gruff genuinely tells the Fallen Angel Magog that he has no quarrel with him, giving the Fallen a chance to walk away peacefully. Magog doesn’t listen. He attacks the Eldest Gruff and is killed nigh instantly.

    Misuse - No Obvious imbalance between characters - 18/ 50 | 36%
  • Characters.Alpha And Omega Fanfic: [Shinji Imari] At separate points he offers both Misato and her soldiers the opportunity to simply stand down and let him save Tevos, stating he's perfectly willing to end things with no more violence. However, he's also perfectly willing to climb over their still warm corpses to save her.
  • Characters.Apotheosis MHA: [Shoto Todoroki] After Bakugo showed up at the battle at Coruscant stadium, Shoto warned him to leave and not interfere with the current battle, or else he would personally defeat and arrest him.
  • Characters.Bates Motel Bates Family: [Dylan Massett] In the final episode, Dylan warns Norman of this as Norman grabs a knife.
  • Characters.Birdy The Mighty: [Captain Titus] Implores Birdy to join the Federal Army's cause after she returns to Earth, as a fellow Ixorian. She makes it clear, though, if she stands in her way, she will kill her even if she would prefer not to.
  • Characters.Books Of Samuel: [Abner] Abner loses a battle against David's forces (led by Joab) and is forced into retreat. Joab's brother Asahel (specifically mentioned as being a fast runner) gives chase and tries to run him down. Abner warns him to back off. Asahel doesn't. Abner skewers him. Drama and revenge ensue.
  • Characters.Elfen Lied Lucy: [Lucy] In her first meeting with Nana, Lucy initially doesn't want to fight her and tries to just scare her off, telling her to go home. When Nana persists, Lucy gives in and attacks.
Lucy: I was going to let you go. After all, there aren't many of us out there. But you're just such a pain in the ass.
  • Characters.Final Fantasy VII Remake Main Characters: [Barret Wallace] Barret makes it clear that he doesn't trust Cloud and warns him that he'll put a barrage of bullets in him at the slightest hint of betrayal.

  • ComicBook.Spider Verse: Mangaverse Venom warns Spider-Man away from the temple to stop him from participating in the Spider-Verse. When Peter insists on entering, Venom decides to kill him himself, but was steamrolled by several Spider-Men, Women, and Girls. This not being a 1v1 makes me unsure, but the initial proposition of Venom v Spider-Man sounds more equal than the resulting Venom v several Spider heroes.
  • ComicBook. The Punisher MAX: Inverted in "Mother Russia". Frank catches his partner doing something he shouldn't be doing. His partner shouts "Back off! Don't make me fuck you up!" Frank just kicks him in the face and knocks half his teeth out. Although this seems to be a correct inversion on the surface, there is no statement of a power imbalance on either side.
  • ComicBook.Wonder Woman The Hiketeia: Diana makes it clear in her altercations with Bruce she doesn't want to fight him and warns him not to push his luck.
  • Fanfic.Shattered Doll: When Snap confronts her, Sandra does all she can to get Snap to understand her point of view because she really doesn't want to hurt him.
    Snap: You're a monster... A sick twisted monster... I can't believe I ever called you a friend.
Sandra: Please, Snap.. It doesn't have to be this way... Please, just listen to me...
  • Film.Lifeforce 1985: When he returns to the research centre and finds Fallada has been turned, Caine clearly does not want to shoot him, and pleads with Fallada not to approach him, but Fallada forces his hand.
  • Recap.Kitchen Nightmares S 1 E 6 Sebastians: A particularly idiotic example: at one point while he's arguing with Gordon, Sebastian says he's "gonna step back" because he doesn't want to hurt Gordon. Ramsay's a black belt in martial arts and a trained boxer. If it had come to blows, Gordon would have destroyed him. Hindsight it seems obvious, but Sebastian does not know Ramsay has a black belt and martially trained.
  • Webcomic.Dark Moon Theblood Altar: The vampires and werewolves level threats of destruction at each other during their confrontation in Episode 6, with Jakah saying that the werewolves normally didn't stand a chance again them and Khan saying that the werewolves looked forward to crushing the vampires in the upcoming nightball match.
  • WesternAnimation. The Owl House: Lilith is this way towards Eda. It's why she wants Eda to join the Emperor's Coven so they don't have to keep hunting her. Eda is not interested and insists she's more powerful without being in a coven. This is shown to be true in "Agony of a Witch" when Eda fights Lilith and only loses because of her curse and Lilith using Luz as a shield.
  • VideoGame.Devil May Cry 4: Right before the Boss Battle with Credo, Nero explicitly tells him to back down, not wanting to hurt him for the sake of Kyrie, Credo's sister and Nero's Love Interest. Credo dismisses it:
Credo: Hurt me? You still don't get it, do you?! (goes One-Winged Angel)

    Misuse - Threat is given during/after fight - 5/ 50 | 10%
  • Characters.Fire Emblem Three Houses Claude: On the Verdant Wind route, during the battle in the imperial palace, if you reduce Edelgard below a certain health level before finishing her off, Claude will plead with Edelgard to surrender, stating he doesn't want to kill her. She's too stubborn to listen.

  • Fanfic.Savior Of Demons: Goku tries to convince Frieza to just admit defeat and leave Earth throughout their entire fight.
  • Film.Black Panther 2018: The challenges for the throne can only end in two ways: a competitor yields, admitting defeat, or they refuse to yield and are killed. Every time T'Challa has to fight for the throne, he verbally asks the competitor to yield before the fight even begins and repeats the request every time he knocks them down or pins them. This is most evident in his fight with M'Baku, when he has M'Baku in a chokehold and M'Baku is clearly suffocating. I would say this also falls under no obvious advantage because there is a warning given before, but the competitors are fairly equally matched at the beginning of the fights.
T'Challa: Yield! Don't make me kill you!
    M'Baku: I would rather die!
T'Challa: You have fought with honor. Now yield! Your people need you. Yield, man!

Seti must hold his adopted nephew accountable in the law, but does not want to sentence his own nephew to death — he eventually settles on exile and striking Moses's existence from all Egyptian records.
Seti: Why are you forcing me to destroy you?
  • Recap.Law And Order S 3 E 6 Helpless: Danielle Melnick is like this, telling Stone not to go forward with prosecuting Dr. Merritt for Diane Perkins' rape because (a) she claims his case is nowhere near as strong as it was with Dr. Olivet, and (b) she'll bring him up on charges for malicious prosecution. Of course, she has no idea what Stone has in store for her, and is stunned when Robinette shows her the files of all of Dr. Merritt's victims.
