  • Scooby-Doo: Despite most of the crooks Mystery, Inc brought to justice never reappear, a number of them still found ways to cause the gang trouble more than once. Some of these include Old Iron Face, the Green Ghosts, Beauregard Sanders, Mamba Wamba, Redbeard's Ghost, the Creeper, Gator Ghoul, Jaguaro, Tar Monster, Black Knight, Captain Cutler, Ghost Clown, Spooky Space Kook, Miner 49er, Witch Doctor, Mummy of Ankha, Bluestone the Great, Charlie the Robot and far more. This list gets even longer when you factor in the Scooby-Doo Expanded Universe of comics, video games, crossovers and alternate continuities.

  • Amicable Exes: Casey dated April and Jennika throughout the series, and though both relationships ended, he remained on good terms with both of them.
  • Antagonist Abilities:
    • Aura Vision: Bludgeon can sense others with a sort of sixth sense, perfect for taking out the Ninja Turtles.
  • Evil Knockoff: Subverted with the Mighty Mutanimals. They have the makings of an evil version of the Ninja Turtles, being formed by one of the oldest foes and often engaged in criminal activity but...they're more than that. While Old Hob, the founder, and Man-Ray, the righthand man, are morally ambiguous extremists, their other members have all been shown to be good-hearted.
  • Mirror Character: Lindsey Baker is this for April O'Neil. Both are scientists who worked together at -Stock Gen-. Whereas April would go on to befriend and join the Ninja Turtles willingly, Linsey was forced into working for the Mutanimals, though did grow to care about them later. While April remained on good terms with Casey after they broke up, Linsey and her ex-girlfriend despise each other.
  • Good Parents: Sadly not as common as abusive parents, but there are still some standout examples of good parentage!
    • Mr. and Mrs. O'Neil are shown to be nothing but loving and supportive parents to April, who later extend their love to Casey.
    • Splinter was a good dad, was.
    • King Zetta and his wife Queen Gizzla are both shown to be exceptionally caring individuals to their daughter, Trib. When they're asked to take care of countless orphans, they manage to fight each and every one of them a good, loving home.
    • Poor Mikey tried his best to be the best dad he can be to the Foot Orphans, but not even someone as compassionate and kind as him could manage raising over a dozen kids. Thankfully, he helped them all find homes, allowing them to live safe and happy lives. Later, he along with the turtles adopt Lita. They're doing a good job!
  • Being around for over a decade, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has built up an extremely formidable gallery of rogues for the turtles' to clash against. Many of these villains appear at least twice with a number going on to having their own dedicated arcs and even mini-series dedicated to them. Heck, some even get their own rogues gallery!
  • Token Evil Teammate: Ocho is the 'evil' teammate on a team that is, at best, amoral. Think about that...
  • Token Good Teammate: With loyalty and family being both major recurring themes, good-hearted characters have sometimes been seen working for bad organizations.
    • Aka of the Pantheon. Though she's still a neutral figure in the grand scheme of things, she is by far the least selfish, violent, and cruel sibling. Later, Kitsune fills this role.
    • Bludgeon and Mongo are this for the Foot Clan across two distinct eras of its history. Bludgeon, though doggedly loyal to his teammates, seems to have a kind heart and is very pleasant when off duty. As for Mongo, risked his life to save children...who were being attacked by Bludgeon and his crew. Go figure.
    • Krsha is this for Null Group. She seems to be a good influence.
    • Kara Lewis, sort of. While the NYPD isn't featured in the comics much and thus is never really shown in a good or bad light, the police are usually obstacles for the turtles since to anyone whose not in the know, they are scary. Kara tends to at least know the turtles aren't inherently evil, but her opinions on them are not exactly positive.
    • April becomes this for Baxter Stockman's cabinet, though this is less for loyalty reasons and more to keep him in check. Whether or not it's working is up for the reader to decide.
    • Herman becomes this for the Mighty Mutanimals after they fall apart. He's still loyal to Hobb, but clearly retained his love for others, which only makes his friends distrusting him all the more gut-wrenching.

  • Good All Along: Early stories seem to imply that Lindsey and Chet are bad people, framing them in sinister ways. In actuality, Linsdey is a classic Ice Queen with a big heart deep down and Chet would become one of the turtles' most reliable and enduring allies.
  • Super Family Team: Splinter Clan, though it also extends to their closest allies like April, Casey, Angel, Mona, Sally Pride, and most recently, Carmen.
    • The Mighty Mutanimals also fit, albeit in a much more forced, dysfunctional and unstable way, which reflects their pale-imitation of the ninja turtles aesthetic quite well.
  • Action Girl/Dark Action Girl: Where do we even start.
    • Subverted with April O'Neal. While most previous and the roughly concurrent 2012 show tend to make April a highly trained combatant, this series forgoes that and makes her much more of a scientific and later political asset to the team. Doesn't mean she won't go on adventures or get her hands dirty to help her friends though.
    • Angel Bridge, one of the turtles' earliest allies and a total friggin' badass. Later becomes the superhero Nobody after she gets a power armor suit that allows her to tangle with the strongest mutants, though even without it, her sheer tenacity allows her to hold her own.
    • Alopex, has shades of Dark Action Girl but mellows into a more lighthearted character in later stories. Often teams with Angel to make a formidable duo.
    • Princess Tribble has been shown to be a badass in her own right, becoming a soldier to protect her planet against the Utrom.
    • Kara Lewis is a daring police officer who went undercover to attempt to stop an infamous and dangerous thief. She failed, but only because Mikey stopped them before her. Afterwards, she's usually first on the scene to defend against whatever kooky threat is facing NYC.
    • Zom, the de-facto leader of the Triceratons and a highly skilled soldier who lead her troops into battle.
    • Sally Pride, chauffeur of the Mighty Mutanimals. Though her skills primarily keep her out of close-quarters-combat, being a master of all vehicles, it's been shown that she can throw down like any of her friends.
    • Jennika, another former assassin of the Foot Clan. Like Alopex, she also starts off as a Dark Action Girl, but eventually becomes a more traditional hero.
    • Mona Lisa is a borderline case. She's not a fighter by heart, nor does she regularly partake in adventures with her friends, but she's had to defend herself (or in one case, assault someone) and showed a considerable amount of skill in doing so.
    • Karai, being the badass ninja warrior she is deserves no introduction. Her allies, Natsu and Koya, also qualify.
    • Zodi, a recurring enemy of the turtles, is also quite the badass. Her only friend, Krisa, is also a badass in her own right, though she doesn't like fighting.
    • Madame Null shows signs of this as well, though she's only now being explored as a character.
    • Venus del Milo, being a member of a gang that bested the turtles in a fight, was probably this, though much of her history is still unclear.
    • Carmen, one of the comics' most recently recurring characters, is an extremely talented MMA fighter and a hero who fights for good.
    • A handful of minor recurring characters fall into this category as well, like Maze, Xiang Fei Tong, Olympian, Wanda, Diamond, Jagwar, Bloody Mary and Zetian.

  • [[5thRanger Fifth Ranger]]: Honestly, many characters can be considered this for different reasons. Casey and April for being the turtles' first allies. Slash being another turtle mutant whom befriends the turtles. Alopex for being the first mutant who ever really becomes a member of the Splinter Clan outside of their original members. Jennika for becoming the fifth ninja turtle.

  • Face–Heel Turn:
    • Leonardo for a period, though he was brainwashed.
    • After City at War Master Splinter falls down a dark path. It can be argued that Hob has a face-heel turn here too, since he goes from a well-intentioned extremist to an not-well-intentioned extremist, but he's a bad person regardless.
    • Three different possible futures see our heroes fall to evil. The first was the Deviations timeline where the four Ninja Turtles became sadistic murderers. The second was a future in which Splinter's criminal empire went too far, forcing a very unhappy battle between him and his sons, who ultimately have to kill him. The third and so far final one sees Jennika and Bob become killers.
  • Heel–Face Revolving Door: Justified with Old Hob. At first, he was little more than a stone-cold killer, but a genuine desire to help mutants developed after his own mistreatments, which only grew as he surrounded himself with heroic mutants like Slash, Mondo Gecko and Pigeon Pete. After Slash died Hob went down a dark path and planned a terrorism attack that turned several Manhattan residents into Mutant Town. Despite this heinous act, he did have a sincere want to help these people in any way he could, but once the revolt started, he once again started to again revert to his evil ways.
  • Broken Base: A minor example, but some fans were split on the series after Sophie Campbell took over as head writer. On one hand, she's clearly passionate about this franchise and explores these characters in ways that have never really been seen before. On the other hand, she did away with most of the entire human cast — even Casey and April barely appear anymore and some criticized her plots for having anti-climatic conclusions. Most tend to agree the stories are still good though.
