On Thin Ice

Lynn's extreme sports superstitions cause chaos at a professional hockey match.

"On Thin Ice"

  • Actor Allusion: Lynn's nickname during the game is "The Penguin".
  • Aesop Amnesia: Lynn doesn't seem to entirely drop her superstitions at the end of the episode, though she is at least trying do to so to some extent. Keyword being "trying".
  • Brick Joke: Mr. Grouse tells Lynn that he got kicked out of the arena for having an unauthentic ticket. When Lynn is in jail, she encounters Flip who was arrested for selling unauthentic tickets. He shows Lynn the same ticket Mr. Grouse has.
  • Continuity Nod: Lynn finds Mr. Grouse in the parking lot after having gotten kicked out of the stadium. Lynn briefly listens to the hockey match with him, recalling how they discovered their shared love of sports in "Good Sports".
  • Day in the Limelight: For Lynn.
  • Gasshole: Lynn farts in one of her large "good luck" jerseys, much to the dismay of Lincoln, Luan, and Lynn Sr., who all got ensnared into her jersey with her. Other spectators are offended by it too.
  • Got Volunteered: Lynn Sr. offers to accompany Lynn to her hockey game and makes Lincoln and Luan come along, claiming that they were the closest ones within his grasp.
  • Hold Up Your Score: When Lynn slides past the hockey players while being chased by fans, three fans do this. They all give her tens, with one scribbling a one over his zero to make it an eleven.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Upon describing the usher Stern Fern, Lynn states that she takes hockey way too seriously. This coming from someone who insists on everyone participating in good luck rituals to help the team win the game.
  • It's All About Me: Every time Lynn goes to a sporting event, she forces some of her family members to come along so she can make them participate in her outlandish good luck rituals, no matter how ridiculous they may be (such as making Lori do a really goofy dance for everyone to see on the jumbotron).
  • Literal-Minded: When Lynn, trying to get her family pumped for the game, asks them what time it is, Lincoln replies that it's 12:30.
  • Long List: When Lynn gets kicked out of the arena, she tells the family to do the rituals on the list under her seat. When Lincoln takes out the list, it unrolls down the standings and off-screen.
  • Red Eyes, Take Warning: Fern gets red eyes when she chases Lynn onto the hockey field.
  • Sophisticated as Hell: Lisa says that superstitions "derive from the assumption that a connection exists between co-occurring, non-related events", before going on to call them "hooey".
  • Special Guest: Rowdy McQuads is guest voiced by Kyle Clifford of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
  • Tally Marks on the Prison Wall: The cell that Lynn Jr. and Flip are thrown in has these.
  • We Meet Again: Lynn tells Fern this when the usher finds her hiding in a dumpster.
  • What Are You in For?: Flip asks Lynn this when she meets him in the arena's jail cell.

Room and Hoard

The kids try to convince Mom and Dad that they still play with their childhood toys.

"Room and Hoard"

  • Brick Joke:
    • At the beginning of this episode, Mr. Loud is looking for a VHS tape that he and Kotaro watch every year on their "Friend-a-versary". At the end of the episode, when the Loud kids give their stuff away, Lisa finds it under her fecal slides.
    • When Luna and Luan come across a bunch of stuff that’s being given away for free, Flip is there taking a bunch of just because it’s free. When the Loud kids give away their old stuff at the end of the episode, Flip and his raccon takes the things that the other kids didn’t want.
  • Broken Record: The lyrics of "The Little Froggy Song" appear to be just "The little froggy goes ribbit, ribbit" on loop.
  • Companion Cube: Lana finds a half-eaten burrito in a garbage can at the cemetery, and names it "Burt".
  • Ear Worm: "The Little Froggy Song" will haunt your dreams according to Lynn Sr.
  • Goo Goo Getup: Lincoln finds his first shirt, his bib, and a beanie that says "#1 Baby Boy", and to prevent his parents from getting rid of them, he starts wearing them. When the Loud Kids give their stuff away at the end of the episode, Flip and his raccoon are seen wearing them.
  • Literal-Minded: While at the mall, Lori gets a phone call from Leni, who tells her that she bought everything from a clothing store having an "Everything Must Go" sale, hoping it'll help that store's business. Lori tries to tell her that's not how "Everything Must Go" sales work.
  • Oh, Crap!: Rita, upon catching Lana and Lola singing "The Little Froggy Song".
  • Phoneaholic Teenager: To prevent her parents from giving her first toy cell phone that does nothing but make animal noises, Lori starts talking on it again, pretending to have a conversation with the animals.
  • Puppy-Dog Eyes: Lily gives these to Lori to convince her to let her get the rainbow wig she wants.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: A family with two parents and eleven children is bound to have its house filled with clutter and garbage.
  • Toilet Humor: This episode reveals that Lisa has saved every dirty diaper since her infanthood, courtesy of her poop studies. It’s just as disgusting and crude as it sounds.
