When no one shows up to Anais's party because she has no friends to invite, she, Darwin, and Gumball try make an imaginary one. They seemingly create a strange monster that makes friends with Anais, but he turns out to be real and on the run from the police.

Tropes:

  • Amusing Injuries: The traps The kids set up to thwart the police storming the house would have been a bloodbath of gore and mutilation if it wasn't happening to giant, walking snack foods.
  • An Arm and a Leg: Gumball hides his hand in his sleeve and pretends Anais's friend tore it off.
  • Bread, Eggs, Milk, Squick: The kids think they have the power to create things by imagining them and suggest imagining money for the poor (Darwin), an extinct species (Anais), or Gumball not getting caught using hair removal cream on his butt (Gumball). They all agree to first use their imaginations to forget that last suggestion.
  • Bucket Booby-Trap: The hamburger police officer opens a door with a bucket but dodges it, only for a second trap to swing a boot in his bun head, decapitating him.
  • But Now I Must Go: The friend turns out to have survived, but still has to leave because he's supposed to be dead. He promises Anais that he'll stop by to visit some time.
  • Description Cut: Anais locks her parents out of the house after they find out her friend is a criminal, and says they'll calm down after a minute. Cut to the house surrounded by police as Richard holds Nicole back.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Anais sets up a big party, and is genuinely shocked that no one bothered to show up. As it turns out, Anais didn't actually invite anyone because she has no friends, and it doesn't occur to her that no one would show up under those circumstances until she actually says it out loud.
  • Disney Death: The friend himself semi-accidentally blows himself apart, but the pieces are pulled back together. Invoked since he purposely faked his death.
  • Friendly Tickle Torture: During their efforts to be friends with each other, Anais's friend's hand comes off by accident. As they begin to warm up to one another, the disembodied hand playfully tickles Anais, to which Gumball's points out how strange it is.
Gumball: It's hard to know how to feel about this. On one hand it's "awwww." But on the other hand, it's (retches)!
  • Fun with Acronyms: Donut Cop reads that the police manual says, in case of sensitive situations, "fire". It actually said F.I.R.E.: Find the problem, Initiate a dialogue, Reason with the aggressor, and Evacuate the area.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Richard, Darwin, and Gumball talk about getting tricked into eating fake cupcakes then Nicole tries to lecture them about giving Anais space—while a bubble is coming out of Nicole's mouth, causing her to admit that she ate some made of soap.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: Just in case Anais's family would try to eat her cupcakes before her (non-existent) friends arrived, Anais made several batches of fake cupcakes made of lemons with baking soda frosting, toilet paper, and soap. Richard ate all of the toilet paper ones anyway, much to his dismay. Gumball and Darwin ended up cringing and retching from the lemons. Downplayed with Nicole however, as her reaction is simply resigned disappointment when she realized hers were made of soap.
  • I Surrender, Suckers: Gumball and Darwin surrender when trying to take Anais's cupcakes, point away while saying her friends are here, and eat the cupcakes (which turn out to be fake).
  • Literal-Minded:
    • Gumball tells Anais and her friend to make eye contact, so they both have their eyes extend from their sockets and poke each other.
    • Anais tells Darwin and Gumball to put their heads together, so they butt their heads together.
  • Mundane Made Awesome:
  • Never Say "Die": The friend says his toymaker creator "was friends with him until the day he didn't wake up."
  • Ocular Gushers: Gumball and Darwin demand the friend explain why he's on the run from the police with a stern look on their faces. After he gives them an explanation (he's been wandering around since his creator died and everyone is afraid of him), a stream of tears come out of their eyes while they maintain that same face.
  • Police Are Useless: Donut Cop's police manual actually says "If the situation requires tact and intellect, call someone else." So he instead threatens to send Nicole in.
  • Rake Take: One of the traps set for the police in the house is a rake on the floor in front of the window. The male coffee cup police officer sees it coming but he still falls on it because the windowsill had a clear wrapper over it. However, instead of flinging the arm into his face the teeth pierces through his bottom, causing him to bleed coffee.
  • Soda-Candy 'Splosion: This serves as a Chekhov's Gun. Gumball and Darwin are prevented from eating Anais' cupcakes because they get blasted by a mint and soda cannon. Later on, the Chimera to blow himself up with this against the police. He downs 3 soda bottles and threatens to eat the mint, but he gets tased by the cops, knocking the mint into his mouth and setting it off.
  • Source Music: Darwin puts on music to play as the kids set up traps for the police, but since they're in a hurry Anais puts it on fast-forward.
  • Sure, Let's Go with That:
Anais: Did we really make you up?
    Friend: Uh... yeah?
  • Staircase Tumble: Earl has the attic steps dropped on him as he's at the top of the steps. By the time he reaches the lower floor, he's been torn into multiple pieces.
  • The Unsmile:
    • Darwin and Gumball make bizarre fake smiles while trying to blend in at Anais's empty party.
    • Anais and her friend go through a multitude of hilariously awkward smiles, one of which shows off Anais's buck tooth.
  • Writing Around Trademarks: Played for Laughs, as both times the "Mentos and Coke" trick is pulled, it is stated to use "non-branded" mints and cola.
