Recap / Phineas And Ferb The Doof Side Of The Moon

Go To

Phineas and Ferb have decided to construct the world's tallest building. In true Artistic License – Physics fashion, the boys build all the way to the Moon. Meanwhile, Candace is frustrated with attempting to bust her brothers, but Albert Du Bois (Irving's older brother) develops a crush on her and offers to help. Simultaneously, after realizing that the Full Moon causes evil to increase in other areas, Doofenshmirtz builds a device to rotate the Moon so that it stays on its dark side.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Aesop Amnesia: Despite Candace realizing just trying to show Linda what the boys are doing is not easy, it doesn't stick and she keeps on doing it after this episode.
  • Answer Cut: When Isabella says, "Who wouldn't want to be part of a Phineas and Ferb project?", the scene immediately cuts to Albert telling Irving that he wouldn't want to get involved with anything Phineas and Ferb do.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: Played for Laughs.
Candace: Spy cameras? Wouldn't it be easier to just show my mom what Phineas and Ferb make?
Albert: I don't know. Is that easier?
Candace: (suddenly realizing) No! No it's not easy! It's never easy! I need help.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Albert states the building cannot be moved by any force on Earth; it instead gets moved by a force of the moon. Phineas even lampshades it.
  • Bizarrchitecture: The giant skyscraper is this both during its building phase and once it's finished, with themed floors that vary in size and monorails that go all over the place to traverse through them; one of the floors is even a homage to M.C. Escher himself.
  • The Burlesque of Venus: One of the floors of the building, shown during its Creation Sequence, parodies Sandro Botticelli's famous The Birth of Venus painting.
  • Chekhov's Gag: When Doofenshmirtz attempts to show Perry his latest invention, he accidentally shows him a jellybean taped to a cork, telling him it's "a layered idea". Later, when Perry attempts to stop Doofenshmirtz from rotating the moon, he slips and falls on the jellybean cork, preventing him from reaching Doofenshmirtz in time. Doofenshmirtz responds with "I told you it was a layered idea!".
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Dr. Doofenshmirtz realizes the flaw in his plot to rotate the Moon.
Doofenshmirtz: Dummkopf! I should have rotated the sun!
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Both the spacesuit as well as Isabella's own from "'Out To Launch'" appear.
    • Albert insists that both he and Candace will go up to the building to retrieve the spy cameras from Irving, but then Candace brings up her acrophobia, so only Albert goes up.
  • Didn't Think This Through: As Doof realizes, rotating the moon won't rotate its dark side, as it's a shadow that stays in place due to light coming from the opposite side.
  • E = MC Hammer: Albert draws a random math equation on the building to show Candace that no force on Earth can move the building. (Of course, he didn't account for forces from space.)
  • Evil Versus Evil: Doof wants to turn the Moon around to prevent full moons from forming because his evil remains the same while general evil increases during that period and he doesn't like the competition.
  • Evil Will Fail: Regardless of Doof turning the Moon around or not, full moons will take place due to the sun's reflection.
  • Exact Words: Albert insists "no force on Earth" could get rid of the giant skyscraper before Linda gets home. Indeed, it disappears because of Doofenshmirtz turning the Moon around, carrying the skyscraper along with it.
  • Failed a Spot Check: When Linda was driving home and pulling up, she somehow doesn't even notice the building from a far enough distance or even the driveway.
  • Glass-Shattering Sound: Invoked. Perry channels the power of the opera to break the glass of the space helmet he's trapped in.
  • I Gave My Word: When Albert promises to help Candace bust her brothers, he gives her his "nerd word". Later, when Irving asks him to stop, he says no:
Albert: I gave her my nerd word.
Irving: You gave her your nerd word?! But, now you only have two left!
  • Implausible Deniability: Candace and Albert spy on the gang in what is clearly an exterminator truck. Candace asks Albert if her father is an exterminator, which Albert denies.
    Albert: Why do you ask?
    Candace: No reason.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Phineas refers to a "Studio Audience Floor". It might be breaking the fourth wall, or it might be just a random floor.
  • Literally Minded: When Candace hears Linda's Honking Arriving Car, she dramatically says, "What's that I hear? Oh, that's right. It's the inevitable!" But Phineas says after she leaves, "Oh. I thought it was Mom's car."
  • Lunacy: Doofenshmirtz points out that during full moons, all the evil in the world increases while his evil-ness stays constant, making him less evil by comparison.
Doofenshmirtz: I mean, werewolves alone must count, for like, 20% of that! How can I compete?
  • Offscreen Teleportation: Major Monogram tells Perry that Doofenshmirtz is up to something and that he needs to "get over there unrealistically fast". As Monogram finishes briefing, Perry is already gone from his seat, and is already at the Doofenshmirtz building. Lampshaded by the evil jingle, "Doofenshmirtz four seconds later!"
  • Precocious Crush: Albert has one on Candace, but it is very clear that Candace has zero interest in him.
  • Recurring Extra: Making his third appearance, Albert officially achieves this.
  • Star Scraper: Phineas and Ferb build a skyscraper tall enough to reach the Moon. As in, the spire at the top of the building buries itself in the Moon's surface. In future episodes, the building is still seen on the moon.
  • Tempting Fate: Albert claims the building will never disappear - guess he was wrong, after all.
  • Truth in Television: Crime actually does increase during the Full Moon.
