Recap / Phineas And Ferb Bowl R Ama Drama

Go To

Phineas and Ferb decide to set a new world record for the world's largest bowling ball. Candace attempts to commandeer their giant ball and bring it directly to Linda and Lawrence but she ends up losing control, resulting in the gang trying to get it back in a giant game of pinball.

Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz builds a series of giant mechanical penguins that will freeze the Tri-State Area, allowing him to sell addictive hot chocolate.

This episode also marks the first time the boys inadvertently ruin Dr. Doofenshmirtz's plan.

Tropes

  • 2D Visuals, 3D Effects: Candace's ordeal in the subway with the tunnels is done with CGI.
  • Acting Out a Daydream: When Candace decides to take the bowling ball to the Bowl-R-Ama, she starts daydreaming about her mother apologizing for not believing her, her dad giving her his credit card, and Jeremy being so impressed that he proposes to her. Phineas then says to her, "So, you wanna give it a try?"; still caught in the daydream, she says, "I do, Jeremy...", then quickly snaps out of it and says, "I mean, I'd love to give it a try".
  • Added Alliterative Appeal: This passage from two strangers:
Barry: That's one big bowling ball, Bob.
    Bob: You betcha, Barry.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: When Baljeet appears and greets the boys, he borrows Isabella's "What'cha doin'?". He even lampshades it.
  • Bowled Over: This is what ends up happening to Doofenshmirtz and his giant robot penguin army: Perry redirects the giant bowling ball directly at Doof and his penguins, which coincidentally are marching in a triangular formation like bowling pins do, destroying both the bowling ball and the penguins, and flinging Doof and Candace high into the air.
  • Bowling for Ratings: The episode starts off with Phineas and Ferb attempting to break the record for the world's largest bowling ball, and then they proceeded to bowl with it a few times in the backyard before Candace lets the ball loose, turning it into a giant pinball game instead.
  • Continuity Nod: A sign displays a forecast of "Sunny with a chance of scattered lawn gnomes".
  • Ferris Wheel Date Moment: The beginning of the episode has Candace talk about going on a ferris wheel date with Jeremy, in spite of her acrophobia. In the end, she got flung out of the exploding bowling ball right into Jeremy's seat on the wheel.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: The giant bowling ball becoming a giant pinball is foreshadowed by the map of downtown Danville resembling a pinball machine, and the subway acting as a pinball launcher.
  • Freeze Ray: The Giant Robotic Penguin Icy Freeze-Your-Socks-Off Breath-inator Thingy, an army of robotic penguins equipped with freeze rays.
  • Fruit Cart: The bowling ball crashes into one at the end of the "Pin-Bowlin" musical number.
  • Gratuitous Spanish: Played with. Doofenshmirtz says, "As they say in Mexico, 'Do Svidanya'!", which is actually Russian for "goodbye". Doofenshmirtz believes it's spelled "Dos vidanya", though, because immediately after he says it, he says, "Down there, that's 'two vidanyas'!".
    • The Brazilian Portuguese dub has a straight example by having Doofenshmirtz say something that translates as "As the Terminator would say, 'hasta la vista'!".
  • Guinness Episode: By the end, Phineas, Ferb and friends got three world records. One for the largest bowling ball, one for largest game of pinball when the bowling ball went all over town, and one for most world records obtained in one day.
  • Hair-Trigger Sound Effect: There's a fanfare every time Baljeet mentions "The World's Most Pointless Book of Records". It turns out to be Buford playing the trumpet.
  • Lock-and-Load Montage: A short one done by Phineas, Ferb and the gang as they gear up on their recreational vehicles to chase after Candace.
  • Motive Decay: Provides the page quote. "I used to have goals. They were evil goals, but they were goals."
  • Pinball Gag: Candace goes through a series of buildings and objects in the city like a game of pinball after the giant bowling ball goes out of control. The boys take advantage of it and decide to submit it as the world's largest game of pinball.
  • Record Needle Scratch: When Perry is sliding through a tube to get to O.W.C.A. headquarters, we get a record scratch when he falls out of the tube (Carl is repairing it).
    Carl: Oops. Sorry, Agent P.
    Singer: Herman the Hedgehog!
  • Rule of Three: Doof's hot chocolate business method. The first cup will be free, the second cup will... also be free, but the third cup will cost a million dollars.
  • Shout-Out: Phineas and the gang push their garage door openers to get their bikes similar to Voltron.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: After getting bounced around town in a giant bowling ball all day, the episode ends with Candace getting a Ferris Wheel Date Moment with Jeremy.
