Recap / Phineas And Ferb Thanks But No Thanks

Go To

When Carl discovers Monty and Vanessa are dating, he bribes him into getting much needed attention from Monogram. Meanwhile, Candace discovers a women next door has witnessed her brothers' inventions, and Doofenshmirtz creates an Inflate-inator to silence his bagpipe-playing neighbor.

Tropes:

  • Actor Allusion: The chef is voiced by Gordon Ramsay, who, after taking kindly to Monogram's gratitude, promptly fires a member of his staff, in reference to Ramsay's bullying demeanor depicted in shows such as Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares.
  • Anvil on Head: Monty ties a grand piano over the table where he, Carl, and his father are seated to make Carl save his life and show him gratitude.
Carl: You know, it's funny how no one's noticed a grand piano dangling precariously over our table.
Monty: Well, I also tied up a couple of violins over there so it would seem like a theme.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: The old woman next door may seem kind, but she's really Peggy "The Pyramid" McGee, known famous for her pyramid schemes.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: The old lady next door asks Candace where Perry is.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Carl.
  • Demoted to Extra: Phineas and Ferb don't have much of a role in this episode, appearing very little throughout the plot.
  • Crazy-Prepared: Perry's hat has a pressure release valve. Just in case he's ever inflated?
Doofenshmirtz: So that's what the inside of a platypus smells like?
  • Engineered Heroics: Monty and Carl end up having to nearly drop a piano on Monogram to get him to thank Carl.
  • Everything's Louder with Bagpipes: Doof's Scottish neighbor's loud bagpipe playing annoys him, so he makes an Inflate-inator to inflate the bagpipes.
  • Faint in Shock: When he finally gets some thanks from Major Monogram, Carl lets out a squeal of joy and passes out.
  • Foreshadowing: Peggy says she cannot come over to the Flynn-Fletcher house because she's not up for leaving her home. This is because she's in a pyramid scheme and is trying to conceal her identity.
  • Genre Savvy: "I'll be out before the time that [Candace's] mom serves pie!"
  • Inflating Body Gag: Dr. Doofenshmirtz and Perry get blown up by balloons thanks to Doof's "Inflate-inator".
  • Incessant Music Madness: Doofenshmirtz's neighbor has been playing the bagpipes non-stop, prompting Doofenshmirtz to create the Inflate-inator.
  • K-I-S-S-I-N-G in a Tree: Carl mocks Monty by singing "Monty and Vanessa sitting in a tree..."
    Monty: Carl...
    Carl: Let me finish. "K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"
    Monty: Go ahead.
    Carl: You mean there's more?
  • Literal Metaphor: Peggy is involved in "pyramid schemes"... as in, she's caught selling triangle-shaped tchotchkes and misrepresenting them as pyramids.
  • Missed Him by That Much: The first two times Candace tried to introduce Linda to Peggy, Peggy has left her room by the time Linda came out. Peggy only comes back to her window seconds after Linda reenters the house.
  • Noodle Incident: Peggy mentions to Candace the time that Phineas and Ferb had their own sitcom, but Candace says she wasn't even there for that one. And neither were we.
  • Pun: Peggy "The Pyramid" McGee is charged with pyramid schemes. As in, she sells flat triangles but passes them off as pyramids.
  • Rule of Three: Candace's attempts at trying to introduce Linda to Peggy. The first time, Peggy has ducked down out of the window's view because she dropped a penny; the second time, she put a plant in the window's view and left to refill her watering can; the third time, Candace brings Linda to Peggy's front door, only for Peggy to get caught by the police once the door is open.
  • Sequel Episode: To "My Sweet Ride", from when Carl says that Monty "owes [him] big time".
  • Shell-Shock Silence: Phineas says his catchphrase over a very loud microphone, which causes Candace's ears to ring and unable to hear her brother.
  • Special Guest: Goldie Hawn as Peggy "The Pyramid" McGee. Her first acting credit in 11 years and her first television appearance since Laugh In.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Perry shushes the bagpiper, who apologizes and stops playing.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Whenever Candace takes Mom out to meet Peggy, she's gone; by the time Mom leaves, Peggy reappears.
  • Sumo Wrestling: When Doof and Perry get hit by the Inflatinator, they end up in a sumo wrestling match with the roof's helipad acting as the sumo wrestling ring.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: The plot of the episode is that Monogram is obliviously ungrateful to everything that Carl has done for him. Even when saving his life, Monogram just says that it is a shame he didn't save the table as well.
  • The Voiceless: Phineas and Baljeet are the only members of the gang with lines. Ferb, Isabella, Buford, and the Fireside Girls appear but do not speak.
