Recap / Phineas And Ferb My Sweet Ride

Go To

For the 1950s car show, everyone in Danville is dressing like a sitcom from the 1970s. Phineas and Ferb help their dad fix his old car for Candace. Meanwhile, Doofenshmirtz has his own car that he has been fixing up.

Tropes

  • Aside Glance: Perry looks at the camera when Doof goes to look up the "entomology"note  of "rust" to see if it originates from "red dust".note
Doofenshmirtz: Yeah, I looked it up, and apparently, entomology is the study of insects. Go figure.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: A very rare occurrence of Candace being extremely grateful to Phineas and Ferb for their Big Idea, since they helped restore the car. She even gives the winning trophy to them.
  • Bait-and-Switch Comment: At the reveal of the fully restored Nedlington Nymph, it appears as if Candace is once again about to try to bust Phineas and Ferb, but instead, praises them!
Candace: (angrily) You guys are so... (excitedly) AWESOME!!!
  • Bait-and-Switch: Most episodes would end with Doof's inator destroying whatever Phineas and Ferb made, which seems to spell doom for Candace's new car. Instead, Perry uses it to destroy Doof's own vehicle and the Nedlington Nymph comes out of the episode completely undamaged.
  • Batman Can Breathe in Space: Doof is sent into orbit when the Boomshlaka 320-I explodes.
Doofenshmirtz: Uncle Simpkin? He's looking well.
  • Cool Car: Both the Nedlington Nymph and the Boomshlaka 320-I (although the Boomshlaka got a better reception in Drusselstein than at the Danville car show).
  • Every Car Is a Pinto: The Boomshlaka 320-I's fatal design flaw was that a dynamite reserve was placed in the back bumper next to the gas tank, so if the car was rear-ended, it would explode (which is similar to a design flaw the Pinto had in real life).
  • Fantasy Helmet Enforcement: When Linda is dressed as a carhop, Jeremy compliments her on her wig helmet, which she lifts up to show her real hair in a hairnet.
  • The '50s: This episode has everyone dressing like they did in the fifties, which in the words of Phineas, was "when they dressed like a sitcom from The '70s."
  • Heavy Sleeper: Lawrence fell asleep while attempting to restore the Nedlington Nymph, and the under car roller he is on ends up rolling carrying him through Danville but stops him just in time for the Doo-Wop Hop.
Doofenshmirtz: Outta my way, luge boy!
  • Hold Up Your Score: The judges at the car show do this, with one judge giving it an 11 out of 10.
  • Lampshade Hanging: When Doofenshmirtz warns that opening the door will allow Perry to walk in, Vanessa points out he'd otherwise just blow it down for a Dynamic Entry. After she opens the door, Perry walks in carrying a bazooka.
  • Leave the Two Lovebirds Alone: Phineas and Ferb allow Candace and Jeremy to share a moment together on the drive to the car show.
  • Left the Background Music On: A big-sounding fanfare plays when Candace opens the garage door and sees the restored Nedlington Nymph for the first time; it's being played by Phineas with a trumpet.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Turns out Linda is just as bad at roller skating as Candace, if not even worse.
  • Not So Stoic: Doof is not used to seeing his own daughter smiling.
  • Sequel Hook: When Carl spies that Monty is dating Vanessa, Monogram asks him what he sees, and he responds with, "Someone who owes me big time!" This would be followed through in "Thanks But No Thanks".
  • Special Edition Title: The title of the episode is shown in the sky above the Flynn-Fletcher house.
  • There Was a Door: Lampshaded. When Doof drives the Boomshlaka 320-I out of his apartment, we see the garage door opening, but then the camera pans to the delivery door and the car bursts through that door.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: One of the few episodes in which absolutely nothing goes wrong for Candace. Her new car doesn't even get a single scratch!
  • Totally Radical: Major Monogram clearly has no flair for 50s slang, as evidenced by his use of "See ya later, crocodile!"
  • Why We Can't Have Nice Things: Said almost word-for-word by Doof after Perry's bazooka accidentally destroys a Warholian artwork depicting Doof.
