"For the first time in a while, I just feel lost. And I miss her. For some reason I feel like we've really gotten a lot closer in the last couple of weeks. She opened up to me... told me about her family. I really think she was starting to like me too. And what the hell, Bree, what the hell? Where are you? Why have you not tried to contact us? Me and Daniel, we're just here... we're just waiting. And we're tired. But we're here and we're just waiting for some kind of... some kind of sign from you that you're okay. So just, don't let us down."
Jonas, "1500 Miles"
Dates Posted: (2007) May 14, 15, 18, 21, 22, 24-26, 28-30, June 1

"Be Part of Something": The Hymn of One posts a second ad, once again starring Bree.

"Opening The Box": Daniel and Jonas discuss Bree's recent videos, then show what they found in the box at the Hymn of One camp. Jonas talks about Sarah's presence at their house and shows some footage she shot.

"Getting Her Back": Jonas, Daniel, and Sarah put all the clues together and mount a rescue mission for Bree.

Tropes:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: In "Oh, The Places You'll Go", Jonas tells Daniel that his joke about not being in the mood to die someone up isn't funny, but he laughs at it anyway.
  • Adoption Diss: In "I Know What Boys Like", Sarah tells Taylor she was adopted when she starts honking her nose in Sarah's face.
  • All for Nothing: In "1500 Miles", Jonas laments the fact that the entire trip to Zavalla ended up accomplishing nothing the TAAG wanted to do.
  • All Girls Like Ponies: Sarah comments in "Getting Her Back" that "Ponies are awesome!"
  • Appeal to Worse Problems: Spoofed by "I Know What Boys Like". When Taylor starts talking about soccer, Sarah gets up, puts her hand over Taylor's mouth, and says this:
Sarah: Every time you score a goal, a starving child in Africa dies.
  • Arranged Marriage: Discussed by Daniel in "Opening The Box" as he wonders if the Order is planning to have Bree marry somebody.
  • Being Watched: Jonas expresses this feeling while they're at the fake Ceremony site during "Oh, The Places You'll Go", but there's no indication that the Order is actually watching them.
  • Big Guy Rodeo: Sarah does a downplayed version of this to the Watcher in "Getting Her Back" after he's run over to her, to slow him down from going after Jonas and Daniel.
  • Blatant Lies: Taylor's assessment of her performance in the cherry-stem-tying contest in "I Know What Boys Like", holding a slightly bent cherry stem next to Sarah's knotted stem:
    Taylor: I came kinda close.
  • Brainwashed: Discussed in "Opening The Box" as Daniel and Jonas talk about how Bree's been acting like a zombie in the Hymn of One ads.
  • Call-Back:
    • The cherry-stem-tying contest in "I Know What Boys Like" to Sarah's claim that she could do it back in "No Trespassing".
    • "Let's Play Doctor" has the EPOGEN symbol reappear for the first time in ages, revealing the connection between the company that made the shots Bree was taking and the Order.
    • Taylor calling Jonas and Daniel "S-M-R-T" in "My Sister = Slut" refers to when Daniel called Taylor that in "No Trespassing".
    • A whole slew of them in "Oh, The Places You'll Go":
      • Daniel and Jonas return to Alex's house for the first time since "Alex Is...".
      • They visit the house of the party seen in "Uncle Dan".
      • Daniel jokes that he's not the mood to tie anyone up after talking to the host of said party, referring back to both "Interrogation 101" and "It's Not Kidnapping".
      • Daniel ends up searching Lucy's apartment again, as in "Following the Helper".
      • Daniel and Jonas go back to the site of the fake Ceremony, with Daniel even commenting on how scary it looks at night.
  • The Cameo: Several fans of the series appeared in "It's A Cult", as the people who attended the Hymn of One seminar.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Done intentionally by Jonas in "Let's Play Doctor" to troll Sarah:
Jonas: So tell me, ah, what are you doing later?
Sarah: (pulling camera closer) It involves D-batteries, and makes a lot of noise.
    Jonas: Buh— a boombox?
  • Copycat Mockery: In "I Know What Boys Like", Taylor again imitates Sarah by hanging her hair in front of her face.
Sarah!Taylor: Taylor, video blogging is for babies.
  • Cut His Heart Out with a Spoon: Sarah's threat to breathe on the nonplussed Jonas in "CAMP PLAY".
  • Donut Mess with a Cop: A variation in "Let's Play Doctor". Daniel explains why he ended up being chased by a security guard:
Daniel: I mean, everything was fine until... I took a doughnut from the nurses' stand.
  • Double Entendre: In the Intentionally Awkward Title of "Entertaining Myself", as a clear reference to masturbation.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Chris appears for the first time in "It's A Cult", about 100 episodes ahead of when he actually takes on a meaningful role. Carl and Sonia also reappear in "It's A Cult" and the Hymn of One ads, again well ahead of their roles growing.
  • Erotic Eating: Sarah's performance in the cherry-stem-tying contest in "I Know What Boys Like", successfully tying the cherry stem into a knot using her tongue. Averted by Taylor, who only manages to bend it slightly.
  • Extreme Close-Up: "1500 Miles" opens with Jonas holding the camera right in front of his left eye.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: Sarah has some fun playing with P. Monkey during "Entertaining Myself".
  • Gratuitous French: In "Oh, The Places You'll Go", Jonas says that Daniel is calling their trip "Tour d'Order".
  • Hidden in Plain Sight: "CAMP PLAY": When the gang is by the tree stumps, one of them has the word "HELP" and a smiley face carved on it, presumably left as a clue by Bree's dad right in the heart of Order territory. The TAAG fail to notice it before Sarah finds the hidden object first, though.
  • Hypocrite: In "Sing With Me", Bree urges the viewer to reject the "empty promises" of Heaven and eternity... while promoting what is definitely a Scam Religion.
  • I'll Pretend I Didn't Hear That: Parodied in "Opening The Box".
Daniel: You know what I was thinking of, though? They wouldn't marry her off, would they?
    (beat)
Jonas: (very quietly) I'll pretend like I didn't hear that.
  • Intentionally Awkward Title: "Entertaining Myself".
  • It Was Here, I Swear!: Daniel tells Jonas about Lucy's computer in "Oh, The Places You'll Go", but it's long gone by the time they get to her apartment. Unlike most examples of this trope Jonas doesn't doubt Daniel (having video evidence helps).
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: When Jonas feels a little uncomfortable in "Oh, The Places You'll Go":
Daniel: I always feel that way.
  • Luck-Based Search Technique: In "CAMP PLAY", Sarah lucks into finding the secret Bree's dad left by playing around on the stumps in front of the stage.
  • Mind over Matter: Parodied in "My Sister = Slut" when Taylor claims she did the stop-motion sequence with her mind.
  • Motivational Lie: Played for laughs in "Let's Play Doctor" as the TAAG holler encouragement to Daniel as he enters the hospital, then reveal they expect this to go terribly.
  • Parting-Words Regret: Discussed by Daniel in regards to Bree during "Comfort Food":
Daniel: What if the last moment we had together was sitting in the back of Jonas' car waiting for the Order to show up? I wasn't even that nice to her. I kept telling her it was a bad idea to get out of the car.
  • Product Placement: A fairly blatant example in "Opening The Box", as Jonas namechecks Jared Scharff and the Royals as the band Sarah keeps listening to.
  • Public Secret Message:
    • Somebody inside the Order is trying to leak information, as taking the first letter of the first thirteen sentences of "Sing With Me" spells out "HELP HER FRIDAY". The remaining sentences spell TCC, the signature of the secret writer.
    • TCC planted a second message into this ad, largely in the same way as the first. The first letter of each sentence spells out BENEATH THE LUE STONE (although there is a pause right before the word "by" in the 11th sentence, to form the proper message of BENEATH THE BLUE STONE). This is intended to go with the message from "Sing With Me", spelling out "HELP HER FRIDAY BENEATH THE BLUE STONE".
  • Put on a Bus: When Jonas and Daniel visit her house in "Oh, The Places You'll Go", Alex is long gone with no sign of where she went.
  • Really Gets Around: Implied by the sign Sarah hangs on her door in "Opening The Box":
    Sarah's Room - Boys Only!
  • Sex Slave: In "Opening The Box", Sarah ambushes Daniel after he takes out the trash and says this:
Sarah: I am the Order. I have come to make you my personal slave!
  • Ship Tease: Several for Daniel/Sarah:
    • "Let's Play Doctor" has this exchange as Daniel puts on his doctor disguise:
Sarah: Dr. Beckett? Listen to my heart. (pulls down on her shirt) I think it's gonna burst.
      Daniel: Yeah, calm down tiger.
    • This exchange from when Sarah's slacking off in "CAMP PLAY":
Sarah: (referring to what they're looking for) I get it. I still need a shower.
Daniel: I promise you if you help us, you'll have the best shower you've ever had in your entire life.
(Sarah whispers something in Daniel's ear that leaves him laughing and shaking his head)
    • Sarah ambushes Daniel while he's taking out the trash in "Opening The Box" and jokes that she's going to make him her slave.
      Daniel: (smiling) You're a freak.
      Sarah: But I'm your freak!
    • In "Getting Her Back", Sarah tells Daniel to stop tapping his legs.
      Daniel: I'm just relieving stress.
      Sarah: There are better ways...
      (all chuckle)
      Jonas: Yowza...
  • Shout-Out:
    • "I Know What Boys Like" shares its name with a song by The Waitresses.
    • During the stop-motion sequence of "My Sister = Slut", a My Little Pony toy goes galloping by.
    • "Oh, The Places You'll Go" to the Dr. Seuss book, Oh, The Places You'll Go!
    • Jonas references Bride of Frankenstein as he corrects Daniel.
Daniel: Maybe she's the "bride of zombie" type.
Jonas: (exasperated) There's no such thing as the "bride of zombie." It's the "bride of Frankenstein."
    • Sarah's pet ferret is named Colossus, after one of the works of her favorite author, Sylvia Plath.
  • Single Tear: Sarah mimes shedding one in "Entertaining Myself" after Taylor tells her how sad their mom got after getting a message from their dad.
  • Skewed Priorities:
    • In "Let's Play Doctor", after Daniel relates how the donut got him in trouble, Sarah starts focusing on that instead of his actual mission.
    • Subverted in "It's A Cult", as Sarah complains near the beginning about being hungry, but quickly starts taking their mission more seriously.
  • Speak in Unison: The Hymn of One likes getting people to do this, as in "It's A Cult" Carl and Sonia speak at once to open the seminar and they get the crowd to do it at the end.
  • Squick: Played for laughs In-Universe in "Entertaining Myself" when Taylor shows Sarah her hickey and Sarah reacts with disgust, miming throwing up.
  • Stop Motion: A short clip of stop motion plays in the middle of "My Sister = Slut" as a bit of a skit Taylor put together.
  • Terrible Pickup Lines: After Daniel goes into the hospital in "Let's Play Doctor", Jonas deliberately gives Taylor and Sarah a couple of these, just for fun.
Jonas: So tell me, um... do you come here often?
    Taylor: No way, I don't...
Jonas: I do. I do, 'cause I like to watch people come and go, y'know? Look, they come, and then... (waves around with his finger) then they go.
Taylor: D-does that work on all the girls, or just on me?
    (beat)
Jonas: That was working? Wow, I don't know my own powers.
  • Thanking the Viewer:
    • In "CAMP PLAY", Jonas thanks the fans for figuring out the code in the note.
    • Daniel does this in the description of "Getting Her Back".
  • This Is Gonna Suck: After Daniel trips and falls while entering the hospital in "Let's Play Doctor", the TAAG cheer him on until he gets in:
Jonas: Yeah, this is definitely not going to go well. I'm going to go hit the cafeteria. You guys want to go?
Taylor: Yeah, I don't want to see this.
  • Title Card: The first three seconds of "Let's Play Doctor" have one explaining why they're at the hospital.
  • Title Drop: Almost in "Be Part of Something":
Bree: Not all of us are lucky enough to be a part of something that allows us to achieve peace.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: "Let's Play Doctor" and "Entertaining Myself" establish doughnuts as Sarah's favorite food.
  • Unspoken Plan Guarantee: In "Getting Her Back", Jonas says that Sarah told them her plan to save Bree, but we don't hear it, so it works to perfection.
  • Unwanted Rescue: Bree adamantly protests her rescue by Daniel and Jonas in "Getting Her Back", insisting that she has to do the Ceremony.
  • We Need a Distraction: In "Getting Her Back", Sarah comes up with a plan offscreen that involves making herself the distraction, to lure away the Watcher by the car so that Jonas and Daniel can grab Bree.
  • Wham Line: As Jonas and Daniel are hauling Bree to their car in "Getting Her Back", she says this:
Bree: No, I have to do the ceremony!
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Subverted in "Getting Her Back", as Sarah posted a message to MySpace after the episode confirming that she got away safely.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: At the end of "1500 Miles", Jonas rants at Bree over how she abandoned him and Daniel with no explanation and no contact since leaving.
  • White Void Room: Bree sits in one of these for the "Be Part of Something" ad.
  • Word Association Test: Played for laughs in "Entertaining Myself" as Sarah does this with herself to try to relieve her boredom.
Sarah: Red. Black. Boots. Ninja. (does a ninja pose) Cheese. Colossus. Colossus loves cheese. I like donuts.

"No, I have to do the ceremony!"
