Go To

Bobby accidentally sees Luanne naked, which makes Joseph jealous and wanting to see her himself, only to lead to Connie thinking they were both peeping at her. Boomhauer gets locked up in a mental hospital in Houston after being mistaken for someone crazy.

Tropes:

  • Accidental Pervert:
    • The main plot is kicked off when Bobby, wanting to change into his regular clothes, walks into a changing room occupied by Luanne, which freaks him out.
    • Joseph hangs out at Bobby's house and wants to see Luanne naked, which Bobby tries to get him to stop, where he pushes him against the bathroom door while Luanne is inside. Luanne opens the door and thinks Bobby wants to see her naked and warns him if he tries to peep at her again, he's going to hell.
    • And shortly after, Joseph hangs outside the house near the bathroom window with binoculars hoping to catch a glimpse of Luanne in the shower, leading to him and Bobby getting into a fight. Connie then catches them from her house window and mistaken them both for peeping toms. Bobby tries to lie and say they were birdwatching, but she doesn't buy it, leading to tension between the two.
    • At the end of the episode Khan sees Bobby and Connie using ladders to talk to each other through the 8-foot fence he put up to keep them apart. He goes up the ladder himself to yell at him, just as Luanne is once again getting out the shower and she screams that he was watching her much to Joseph's envy.
  • A-Cup Angst: Connie suffers from it compared to the well-endowed Luanne. To the point that, when she learns it was Luanne being peeped on by Joseph and (a reluctant) Bobby, she's more dejected than relieved.
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • When Connie catches Bobby and Joseph seemingly peeping at her, she says "Is this what you wanted to see?", cutting behind her when she opens her robe, then cutting to the front revealing that she's got her pajamas on.
    • When Hank tells Dale he's free to go but the doctor advises he still take his medication, he tears his pill in half seemingly in anger. Before calmly remarking it's easier to swallow that way.
  • The Big Damn Kiss: With the help of Hank, who gives him a ladder tall enough for Kahn's fence, Bobby goes up and shares his First Kiss (not counting the practice kiss back in the first season) with Connie, right before Kahn notices them by the security light he put up, making them both retreat back to their rooms.
  • Call-Back: The first half of the episode has Joseph trying to see Luanne naked, and then in the end after Kahn threatens to spank Bobby after catching him kissing Connie, he gets a glimpse of Luanne coming out of the shower, who then screams "AUNT PEGGY!!! MR. KAHN SAW ME NAKED!", with Joseph on his bicycle overhearing this and lets out a disappointed "Aw, man".
  • Chew-Out Fake-Out: When Khan tells Hank that he saw Bobby in Connie's room without a shirt on, he claims he'll have a word with him, but when he turns around he begins laughing. Later he catches Bobby in the garage looking for a ladder so he see her, after putting together what's happening he hands him a ladder big enough to bypass Khan's new 8-foot fence.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: When Hank shows up to the hospital, he explains that they didn't have to plot any elaborate escape. Boomhauer had fulfilled his 72 hours of observation without posing threats to himself, so he was free to leave. Dale wasn't admitted to the hospital, so he didn't have to stay there (though the doctor still recommends that he stays medicated), and Bill voluntarily admitted himself, so he could leave whenever he wanted (although Hank still makes Bill leave against his wishes).
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: Kahn and Minh have their hearts set on Connie going out with Chane Wassanasong, one of the few Laotian boys in Arlen, whom Connie doesn't like because he's a boring know-it-all who talks about himself and cheats at miniature golf. Kahn especially doesn't approve of Bobby, as he sees him as a fat hillbilly with no future. Because of all this, Connie is hesitant to tell her parents she's going out with Bobby. And later on after catching Bobby and Connie in her room, Kahn then builds an 8-feet tall fence between his house and Hank's house to try and keep Bobby out.
  • Dirty Kid: Unlike Bobby, who gets scarred from seeing his cousin naked, Joseph is a little too eager to catch a glimpse of her. He ends up unsuccessful, although he does end up getting Bobby in trouble with both Luanne and Connie.
  • Go Among Mad People: While going around Houston, Boomhauer gets mistaken as a confused man, due to him walking around in just his speedo, tanned and covered in algae, and his manner of speaking has him taken away by a cop to the mental hospital. There, Boomhauer calls Dale, who infiltrates the hospital and gets locked in with Boomhauer. They call for Bill to help, who then volunteers himself in to help with his mental issues. And after an unsuccessful escape attempt, they call Hank for help. Hank does the reasonable thing: talk to the staff and gets them all out. Boomhauer is free to go since he's met his mandatory time limit and shown he's not a threat to himself or others. Dale wasn't officially admitted, so he's free to go (though the doctor thinks he should keep taking his pills). And Bill is free to go since he voluntarily checked himself in, though he wishes to stay as it helps his issues.
  • Great Escape: Boomhauer, Dale and Bill attempt to escape from the mental hospital by hiding in a laundry cart and being pushed back when they push the fire alarm, clearing everyone from the building and all of them jumping through the laundry chute, only to find the orderlies waiting for them (Bill ruined their plan after mentioning it in his group sessions) and get sedated. Dale then proclaims for the first one to regain consciousness to call Hank.
  • Insane Troll Logic: When Boomhauer calls Dale to get him out of the mental hospital, Boomhauer was expecting Dale to calmly explain the situation to the director, but Dale got the idea that it would be better to infiltrate the facility, dress up like a patient, and sneak him and Boomhauer out. When Dale gets locked in, he goes to the director and rambles on on some weird conspiracy theory before mention that he and Boomhauer are in there by mistake and should be let out. After Bill checks himself in, the guys are formulating a plan to escape, while Boomhauer says that they should sneak out by hiding in the laundry truck, Dale comes up with the idea to sell their medication and buy some rope to scale the walls and make a break for it.
  • Lightswitch Surprise: After coming back from her date with Chane, Connie finds Bobby, who confronts her about her date, and she keeps up the facade of how she likes him, forcing Bobby to come clean about how Joseph wanted to see Luanne naked and Connie catching them. They reconcile and take off their shirts before being caught by Kahn and Minh, leading to Connie being grounded and Bobby being banned from Kahn's house.
  • Meaningful Background Event: While Luanne scolds Bobby after pushing Joseph against the door thinking he's just trying to see her naked again, Bobby witnesses Joseph through the bathroom window with a pair of binoculars trying to get a good glimpse of Luanne.
  • Not Helping Your Case: When Dale gets locked in the mental hospital with the intent to sneak Boomhauer out, he goes to the director, and rambles on about some insane conspiracy theory, before asking him to let him and Boomhauer go, since they are in there by mistake, but it doesn't work. When Boomhauer, Dale, and Bill, who checked himself in voluntarily, vote on how to get out, Boomhauer says they should climb into a dirty laundry truck, while Dale suggests selling their medication and buying some rope. When Dale suggests putting their plans to a vote, he surprised to see he voted for Boomhauer's plan. At the end, when they finally decide to call Hank, Boomhauer's determined to not be threat and allowed to go free, Bill is forced by Hank to go home even if he wanted to stay on his own accord, and Dale is allowed to go because he wasn't formally admited into the hospital, though the doctor insists he keep taking his psychotropic medications, which he does after breaking the pill in half to make it easier to swallow.
  • Operation: Jealousy: Still mad at Bobby for (supposedly) peeping on her, Connie plays up her interactions with Chane before they go out on their date by saying they could sit in the the back and hold hands, all to get back at Bobby as she notices him nearby. And later on, when she finds Bobby in her room, she still keeps up the facade by stating how she's going to marry him, forcing Bobby to come clean about the peeping.
  • Parents Walk In at the Worst Time: Bobby and Connie reconcile after he tells her what happened between Luanne and Joseph and then afterwards agree to see what they both look like without their shirts on. Bobby takes his off, with her thinking he's a Big Beautiful Man and Connie starts to take hers off, managing to expose her belly button right before Kahn and Minh walk in and yell in shock.
  • Shower of Awkward:
    • At the changing rooms at the river, Bobby walks in on a naked Luanne drying herself off. She tries to push the curtain in haste to conceal her, but ended up pushing it back to the other side before still seeing Bobby, who both scream and a traumatized Bobby quickly runs out and rides home with Joseph.
    • The end scene has Kahn yelling for Bobby after he catches him and Connie kissing over the fence and he gets a glimpse of Luanne getting out of the shower, much to her horror, his embarrassment, and Joseph's frustration.
  • Tension-Cutting Laughter: Hank sees Kahn putting up his eight-feet tall fence and tries to tell him it's too tall, but Kahn counters that he found Bobby in Connie's room half-naked. Hank puts up the front that he's going to have a talk to him, but once he steps away from Kahn's sight, he lets out a laugh, bringing him relief over fears that Bobby won't be able to attract girls.
  • Wrong Turn at Albuquerque: While relaxing on his inner tube at the river, Boomhauer falls asleep as he keeps floating along. When he wakes up, he finds himself in Houston and as he tries to find his way back, he gets mistaken as a confused man (due to him wearing nothing but a speedo, being tan and his indecipherable way of speaking) and gets taken by a cop to a mental hospital.
  • Wrongfully Committed: After inadvertently ending up in Houston, Boomhauer, wearing nothing but a speedo, being tanned and his indecipherable way of speaking, gets mistaken as a crazy man and taken to a mental hospital. When Boomhauer calls Dale to get him out, rather than walking in and calmly talking to a psychiatrist and explain what happened, Dale decided to "rescue" Boomhauer by infiltrating the hospital, and both of them sneaking out unnoticed. Unfortunately, Dale gets locked inside, and when he goes to talk to the psychiatrist, Dale simply convinces the doctor, accidentally, that he's just another delusional patient. When the guys, finally, call Hank, he explains that Boomhauer was determined to be harmless and is allowed to go, Dale is also free to go since he wasn't admitted into the hospital, but the doctor recommends he keeps taking his medication.
