Kiss And Tell

Thanksgiving is coming up. Taylor wants the town decorated. Rory pretends to need corn starch to be near Dean, who offers her free soda and kisses her, prompting her to run away with the corn starch in her hand. Lorelai learns of it through Mrs. Kim and is upset that Rory didn't tell her, and ends up inviting Dean to watch a movie with them.

Dean comes over, but is held up by Babette interrogating him. Saved, he looks at Rory's room and finds her stuffed rooster. Sookie comes over to see what's going on and gets chased away by Lorelai. They eat pizza and watch the movie, and Lorelai sneaks out and sits in the kitchen before the golden goose scene. In the middle of Veruca Salt's tirade about golden geese, Rory notices Lorelai effectively excused herself and runs to the kitchen and demands Lorelai come back. Lorelai gives Dean a warning about what will happen if he doesn't treat Rory well.

Tropes

  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Downplayed with Lorelai telling Dean about how when Rory was little she tried to cheer up a weeping willow by telling it jokes.
  • Blatant Lies:
    • Mrs. Kim overhears Rory telling Lane "he" kissed her and Lane tries to pass it off as a religious thing.
    • Sookie assuring Dean that she only guessed that his name was Dean because he looks like a Dean.
    • Lorelai claims to have only told Dean that she was pretty.
  • Character Shilling: Rory goes into detail about how amazing her mother is with men.
  • Captain Obvious: Lorelai informs Dean that Rory is her daughter.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Lorelai judges Dean's suitability as Rory's boyfriend by how he handles lemons. She later tells him to start handling the lemons better.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: At first, Lorelai doesn't understand why Rory would be upset that she invited Dean over.
  • Foreshadowing: Perhaps unintentional, but Luke's assessment that Rory and Lorelai could have similar taste in men due to their similar personalities is wild to listen to, since the reboot heavily implies a Like Parent, Like Spouse Love Triangle with Jess and Logan, who are similar in personality to Luke and Christopher, respectively.
  • Generation Xerox:
    • Dean reminds Lorelai of Christopher.
    • The not talking about their lives thing is Lorelai and Emily, and Lorelai doesn't want it to be her and Rory.
    • Rory accuses Lorelai of being her Emily Gilmore, not her Lane.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Rory starts hating the name Beth after she learns Dean's ex from Chicago is named Beth.
  • Ironic Echo: Rory berates herself for saying "thank you" to Dean kissing her. After their date he thanks her.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Discussed. When Lorelai tells Luke that Dean reminds her of Christopher, Luke tells her that she and Rory are a lot alike, and that means they could have similar tastes in romantic partners.
  • Nausea Fuel: In-universe for Mrs. Kim. Rory and Dean kissing in the store where they buy their food grosses her out.
  • Parenthetical Swearing: Rory is appalled that Lorelai would invite Dean over unprompted and without discussing it with her. Lorelai doesn't see a problem, and Rory stresses how mortifying it is for her mother to insert herself into her love life.
Lorelai Stop saying "mother" like that.
    Rory: Like what?
Lorelai: Like there's supposed to be another word after it.
  • Running Gag: For the people on the service line, Lorelai making the sound her fridge makes.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Too Much Information: Lorelai being out of underwear.
