Huey struggles to keep Fenton and Gandra’s top-secret experiment (and their relationship) hidden from the world. But Mark Beaks is desperate for one last gizmo to steal.

Tropes

  • All There in the Script: According to Benjamin Siemon, the pig girl who won the Science Fair was named Tammy Jenkins and is the older sister of Timmy Jenkins. He describes the Jenkins as a family that produces nothing but rivals.
  • Bad Liar: Both Huey and Fenton struggle with keeping the Gizmocloud as well as Fenton and Gandra's relationship a secret.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: The heroes use Fenton's "Blathering Blatherskite" catchphrase when they each transform to take on Mark Beaks.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Huey and Fenton disagree about keeping the Gizmocloud and Gandra's plan to defect a secret. In the case of the former, Huey says that Gyro wouldn't be mad and he could fix the glitches. Fenton says he's not just worried about that; it's that Gandra's life is in danger if F.O.W.L. catches onto what she's doing. The worst that Gyro can do is fire Fenton; there's no telling what Bradford would do to her. In the end, both are proven right; Gyro agrees to help develop the Gizmocloud, and Bradford busts Gandra for her treachery.
  • Brick Joke:
    • At Beaks's public event, he mentions that the new version of his phone has a 7% reduced chance of exploding, bringing it down to 50%. In every single scene with at least one Waddle phone, one invariably catches on fire (even Beaks's own).
    • When Mamá Cabrera interrogates Huey about Fenton's secret girlfriend, they tell her that her name is "Melissa Beth Ellen." After Mark Beaks is defeated in Gizmocloud, she calls Gandra by the fake name.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Mark Beaks make his last appearance since "Louie's Eleven!".
    • Gyro makes a return appearance since we've last seen him in "Astro B.O.Y.D.".
  • Can't Kill You, Still Need You: Bradford does have Gandra pinned down and her technology confiscated, so he could kill her. He says that her knowledge and skills are too valuable, however, so he settles for locking her up.
  • Cerebus Retcon: Presumably Played for Laughs. Officer Cabrera brings up Louie's Kids and states that there's a case against Louie for creating a false charity scam.
  • Combat Pragmatist: Huey's first response to seeing Gandra again is to toss an object at her face.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Louie previously attempted to pass as Huey in "GlomTales!".
    • Huey's powered armor in the Gizmocloud has the ability to extend its legs.
    • Gyro and Lil' Bulb's virtual armor is the same form Lil' Bulb created for himself in "The Great Dime Chase!".
    • Gyro complains when he was once again locked in the closet in his lab.
    • A subtle one is Louie only finding out now about Fenton being Gizmoduck. With Fenton having been long established as terrible at keeping his identity secret, most viewers would likely have assumed that Louie would have figured it out by now, but a rewatch of the past Gizmoduck-focused episodes will confirm that Louie is, in fact, the only one of the duck kids who was never explicitly brought into the loop on that particular secret before this point.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Gyro is amazed when he sees the Gizmocloud, asking Fenton why he didn't just tell him, and more amazed that Fenton convinced a F.O.W.L. agent to switch sides. When he learns that they were worried about Gandra getting busted, he agrees to help fix the glitches.
  • Creative Sterility: Mark Beaks is unable to come out with an original idea, so he just decides to steal the Gizmoduck armor again.
  • Crush Blush: Gandra, after seeing the text she got from Fenton about his mother.
  • Curse Cut Short: When Huey enters the Gizmocloud and sees Gandra right behind him.
    Gandra: What the—
    Huey: F.O.W.L.?!
  • Cyberspace: Fenton and Gandra invented a virtual reality space where they could conduct experiments without any potential danger.
  • Dating Catwoman: Fenton knows that Gandra's a F.O.W.L. agent, but they love each other regardless. It's downplayed a bit, as Gandra is only with the organization so she can get funding for her work, and tries to leave at the episode's end. He convinces her to switch sides and leave F.O.W.L.
  • Devious Dolphins: Gyro mentions their sea projectiles project was cancelled due to a dolphin attack.
  • Everyone Knows Morse Code: Fenton, trapped in the Gizmocloud, is able to tap his finger in a Morse code message for Huey to go get help. Makes some sense in Huey's case at least, considering he is a scout and takes that very seriously.
  • Girlfriend in Canada: Zigzagged. While Fenton actually has a girlfriend in Gandra, Huey lies about her identity to Mamá Cabrera when asked about her. Part of the fake identity is that she's a seamstress in Alberta, Canada.
  • Heel–Face Door-Slam: Downplayed. Fenton knows that Gandra is on the side of good and that she's going to leave F.O.W.L. The problem is that Bradford already found out about the Gizmocloud and confronts Gandra as she prepares to sneak out quietly. Realizing she can't turn in her two weeks' notice, Gandra says she found a better gig. Bradford says he can't allow her to leave because she has too many F.O.W.L. secrets and knowledge they can use. He locks her up, and plans to use the tech against Fenton.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Gandra has turned away from the side of evil for good. She plans to make it stick by leaving F.O.W.L.
  • High-Heel–Face Turn: Gandra tries to quit F.O.W.L. at the end of the episode, encouraged by her relationship with Fenton, but Bradford locks her up before she can leave the facility.
  • How the Mighty Have Fallen: Beaks's company is in the toilet and his devices are completely obsolete, since he has always been making crummy devices, scamming people out of their money and trying to steal Gizmoduck’s armor.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Louie finds out in this episode that Fenton is Gizmoduck, perhaps the only kid in McDuck manor Locked Out of the Loop until now.
    • Fenton at some point found out and accepted that Gandra is a F.O.W.L. agent.
  • Jaded Washout: In his episode debut, Beaks was recognized as being an influential billionaire inventor and was a huge media star. But after failing to create functioning devices mixed with him constantly trying (and failing) to steal the Gizmoduck armor, Beaks is now deemed a pathetic fallen star. Nobody even recognizes him when he throws a temper tantrum in public, despite using Waddle phones themselves.
  • Kiss Me, I'm Virtual: Mamà asks if Gandra is real because "I don't know how this computer stuff works."
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Louie barely knows anything about the situation at hand. He somehow never even figured out that Fenton was Gizmoduck until Mamà brings it up. As such, he rather quickly flops despite lying usually being his specialty.
  • Made of Explodium: One of the reasons why Beaks lost popularity is because his phones have a tendency to explode.
  • Meet the In-Laws: Mamá Cabrera deduces that Fenton has a secret girlfriend and spends the whole episode trying to figure out who she is. After defeating Beaks in the Gizmocloud, she's finally introduced to Gandra and welcomes her with open arms.
  • Mental Affair: The Gizmocloud allows Fenton and Gandra for a child-friendly version of this, being able to kiss from far away. The downside, as Huey discovers, is that it looks really silly to an outside observer.
  • Mundane Solution: It turns out the Gizmocloud's glitching was simply caused by leaving too many applications open (because they were being minimized instead of closing out).
  • Mythology Gag: Bradford orders Gandra to be imprisoned in the "Lost Library". This a reference to the titular location from Don Rosa's 1993 comic book Guardians of the Lost Library.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: When Gandra comes up with an excuse (or rather, a blatant lie) to cover up her treachery, Bradford immediately sees through it and sentences her to work in the Lost Library for life (or until she’s finished the Gizmocloud that he will retire her).
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Gyro had apparently worked on a sea projectiles project, but it got cancelled due to dolphins attacking a party boat.
    • Dewey has practiced tap dancing in the middle of the night.
  • No-Sell: Gandra tells Bradford she’s resigning because of a “new gig”. The director doesn’t buy this and sees right through her.
  • Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: The title references Ghost in the Shell.
  • Power Makes Your Hair Grow: Officer Cabrera gives herself long, curly hair when she transforms in the Gizmocloud.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Mamá Cabrera is this. She's worried about her son having a girlfriend since she knows how his date with Gandra turned out and threatened the lady that if she breaks Fenton's heart, she'll have to deal with her. When Gandra turns on Mark Beak openly, Mama Cabrera welcomes her into the family.
  • Recurring Element: Gandra leaving F.O.W.L. but getting locked up is very similar to how Magica took control of Lena when Lena was about to tell Scrooge about her (Season 1) and when Lunaris electrocutes and knocks Penumbra unconscious when he finds out she's working against him (Season 2).
  • Relationship Reveal: Fenton and Gandra turn out to be in a Secret Relationship, though it's not made clear how long it has been going on.
  • Resignations Not Accepted: Gandra tells Bradford she wants to leave F.O.W.L. at the end, but he denies her request and has her imprisoned indefinitely (and docks her two weeks pay).
  • The Reveal: Turns out Gandra Dee was only working for F.O.W.L. because they're the only company who was willing to fund her projects and had every intention of leaving once she completed her work.
  • Science Fair: Gandra recreates a memory of herself losing one with her "dangerous science" to a girl who made a baking soda volcano.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Louie bails out of pretending to be Huey in fear of being arrested by Officer Cabrera for his Louie's Kids scheme.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Beaks, struggling to come up with any new idea, spontaneously thinks of "a cup that connects to the internet for apps", before noticing an ad for that exact product.
"Aw, even the stupid ideas are taken!"
  • Take That!: The exploding phones created by Waddle may be a reference to the infamous Samsung Galaxy Note 7.
  • Thought They Knew Already:
    • When Huey sees Gandra in the Gizmocloud, Fenton gives an extremely unconvincing performance of being equally as surprised by her presence. Gandra resignedly remarks on how bad Fenton is at lying... to Huey's shock, as he (being a Bad Liar himself) had been totally buying it until she spoke up.
    • Louie is briefly thrown off his impersonating-Huey game when Mamá Cabrera casually mentions Fenton being Gizmoduck, something Huey has obviously known for a while but Louie had to that point been out of the loop on. Justified since Fenton was already established to be terrible at keeping his identity a secret, meaning that Huey was very likely to assume Louie already knew by that point
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Gyro is shown to be more thoughtful towards Fenton and refers to him as Dr. Intern, a Call-Back to giving him his doctorate during "Astro Boyd". Although he's still crabby with a bit of an ego, it's a significant change from how he normally acts. He's even incredibly impressed with the Gizmocloud, though later tones it down to save face.
  • Twin Switch: Louie poses as Huey in exchange for six months of his allowance, but gets scared off after Mamá Cabrera starts asking about Louie's fake charity.
  • Villain Respect: Despite being annoyed at her treachery, Bradford is impressed that Gandra Dee with Fenton Cabrera-Crackshell built an entire virtual world using a combination of F.O.W.L. and Gearloose resources. He implies that's why he's imprisoning her, because they can still use that expertise.
  • Wham Line: At the very end of the episode:
Bradford: Take her... to the Lost Library.
    Gandra: What?! What library?!
Bradford: You have your secrets, Agent D. And I have mine.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: For Gandra; she hates being evil, and finds a way out with Fenton and Gyro willing to give her The Pardon and a job where she can pursue her scientific love. Unfortunately, Huey accidentally busted her to Bradford, who is both insulted that she used company resources to create a virtual world, and impressed at her genius. Bradford keeps her from leaving the premises and imprisons her in the Lost Library so she can't share that knowledge.
  • Zerg Rush: Bradford has the Eggheads attack Gandra this way before she can so much as fight back. She gets a split-second to retaliate before she's apprehended.
