Hmmm...whoever could Momakase's new sidekick be?
Momakase blackmails Hiro into helping her steal a mysterious item from Yama's safe, threatening to tell Chief Cruz Big Hero 6's secret identities if he doesn't help her.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Batman Cold Open: The episode begins with GoGo, Honey, Wasabi, and Fred fighting Momakase and her mysterious sidekick in a dark alley.
  • Blackmail: Momakase threatens to expose everyone's identities in order to get Hiro to help her.
  • The Bus Came Back: Callaghan makes his second appearance in the series, being interviewed in prison by Chief Cruz. He's understandably less forthcoming this time, as Cruz is trying to figure out the identities of Big Hero 6.
  • Continuity Cavalcade:
  • Crazy-Prepared: Yama seems to have really stepped up his security since the beginning of the series. He has metal doors so thick that not even Momakase's blades can cut through it as well as infrared motion-sensitive cameras that are EMP proof.
  • Easily Forgiven: Once Hiro has explained everything, the team understands he was trying to protect them, with Honey telling him she'd have done the same thing.
  • Exact Words: Granville states there is no official relationship with Big Hero 6 and SFIT. Megan notices it and follows up with asking if there is an unofficial relationship, getting no reply.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Megan ends up hitting a dead-end in her investigation, only retreading Big Hero 6's connections to Krei Tech and SFIT. But she finds her missing piece in Cruz's recording of Callaghan, cluing her to the SFIT fire and Tadashi Hamada.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: You can already guess Momakase's sidekick is probably Hiro without the title. For starters he and Baymax are not with the rest of the team, his gauntlets are exactly like Hiro's and just before GoGo was about to jump into an attack from Momakase the new guy used his Sonic Weapon to blast her out of the way.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Despite still being considered criminals, Big Hero 6 risks going out on night patrol in order to find Momakase after she escapes prison.
  • How We Got Here: The episode begins with Big Hero 6 in the middle of fighting Momakase and her sidekick. When the sidekick is revealed to be Hiro, he recounts the events that got him into this situation.
  • Never Be Hurt Again: Momokase cites this as her reason for becoming a villain, as her father gave up his swords to placate gangsters threatening his family.
  • Pass the Popcorn: Invoked by Fred, who asks for popcorn as Hiro starts telling the story of why he's working with Momakase.
  • Pet the Dog: Momokase leads the police away from Big Hero 6 as thanks for Hiro helping recover her family swords.
  • Pinned to the Ground: During the fight, after Momakase manages to destroy his weapon, Wasabi slips on a bottle giving Momakase an opening to pin him to the ground with her foot on his chest.
  • Recoil Boost: Hiro uses his sonic gauntlets as boosters to make up for the fact that he can't jump nearly as well as Momokase.
  • Shout-Out: During the cold open, the team unmasks Hiro a lot like Mystery Incorporated usually unmasks the fake monsters they catch.
  • String Theory: Megan prepares a cork-board for her investigation of Big Hero 6. In the end, she connects everything to Hiro.
  • Superdickery: The main reason Fred wants Hiro to fix his Fredmeleon suit is so he can pretend to be a ghost and scare Richardson.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Doing an interview where you blindside the person with questions that will go after people that person cares about will get you kicked out very quickly, as Megan found out.
    • Yama might be a criminal, but when someone breaks into his home, he calls the police.
  • Taught by Experience: Momakase gave her graphene blades scan jammers to stop the heroes from tracking their heat signatures.
  • Tempting Fate: In the end, Hiro finds comfort from the fact Big Hero 6's identities are safe. The next scene shows Megan connecting her clues to Hiro.
  • The Villain Knows Where You Live: Momokase tracks down and spots Hiro and Baymanx taking off from the Lucky Cat CafĂ©. She then gives Hiro an unwelcome surprise by waiting for him in the garage.
  • Wham Shot: The episode ends with Megan connecting Hiro to Big Hero 6.
  • Worthless Treasure Twist: Hiro helps Momokase steal what he believes to be something valuable from Yama, only to find out that what she's stealing are family heirloom swords which are far inferior in power to her current weapons.
  • Your Approval Fills Me with Shame: Hiro reacts to when Momakase states he is wasting his talents being a hero.
