Go To

"We have… a tradition.”
Cassandra Cain/Orphan II

After a successful patrol, Duke is welcomed to a Bat Family tradition by Tim Drake/Red Robin, Cassandra Cain/Orphan, Jason Todd/Red Hood, Damian and Bruce. Duke also finds out what that entails.

Tropes

  • The Ace: While Bruce is able to effortlessly dodge Duke’s kick and block Jason’s punch, Cassandra is able to knock the cookie right out of his hand with a kick.
  • Ahem: Alfred notably clears his throat before he begins to speak.
  • And Your Reward Is Edible: The vigilantes receive Alfred’s freshly made baked goods should patrol go through with no one injured.
  • A Truce While We Gawk: Bruce and his children can only stare on as Alfred appears, stopping the fight.
  • Big Ball of Violence: After everyone, minus a subdued Bruce, notices the titular last cookie, the kids break out into a shouting, fighting ball of dust as each of them vies for it.
  • Big Word Shout: As the fight starts, Jason yells, "Dibs!"
  • Blatant Lies: Jason says that he only came back to the Manor after patrolling because of Alfred's baking. Tim calls him out on it.
  • Bring It: Bruce says this trope word for word to his children when the last cookie lands on his cup.
  • Comical Coffee Cup: Bruce is shown to own a “World’s Okayest Father” mug.
  • Dash Attack: A non-video game example. Jason tackles Damian after he gets hold of the cookie.
  • Don't Celebrate Just Yet: After managing to grab the cookie, Damian gloats that he is the “superior Robin” before being tackled by his second eldest brother Jason.
  • Fight for the Last Bite: The main plot of this chapter. Once everyone notices a sole cookie remaining a fight breaks out, even though there are other baked goods available.
  • Grin of Audacity; The vigilantes grin the response to Bruce’s Challenge.
  • Impossibly Delicious Food: Alfred's cookies have allegedly won awards. Everyone is willing to throw hands for the last one.
  • Lemony Narrator: Like the previous chapter, the text boxes introducing the family focus on...interesting traits.
Text box: Jason Todd. A.K.A. The Red Hood. Death and resurrection leave some lasting scars.
Text box: Tim Drake. A.K.A. Red Robin. Genius. Detective. Coffee Addict.
Text box: Cassandra Cain. A.K.A. Orphan. Trained since birth as a living weapon.
  • Mundane Made Awesome: A lot of siblings fight over the last piece of food at dinner...the Bat Family (every member of whom is skilled in the use of at least one weapon and one style of fighting) takes it a step further.
  • No-Damage Run: A non-video game example. If no one gets injured during patrol, Alfred makes pastries.
  • Noodle Incident: Inside the aforementioned Big Ball of Violence, somebody yells “Hey! No biting!”.
  • Not So Above It All: When the last cookie falls on his cup, Bruce challenges his children to take it away from him after previously watching them fight in silence.
  • One of the Kids: Bruce ends up fighting over the remaining cookie along with the rest of the vigilantes.
  • Only Sane Man: Bruce ignores the tussle...until the last cookie lands on his mug.
  • Pass the Popcorn: As the Bat Family start fighting over the last cookie, Bruce tiredly drinks from a cup of coffee.
  • Serious Business: The final cookie. The Bat Family present are all willing to thrown down just for it.
  • Servile Snarker: This trope is better named The Alfred. After stopping a fight between the entire family, Alfred only has one quippy observation.
Alfred: None worse for the wear, I see.
  • Spirited Competitor: When it lands on his mug, Bruce challenges his children to take it from him, rather than eat it or discard it.
  • Supreme Chef: Alfred, naturally. His cookies have apparently won awards according to Cass and the entire Batfamily considers the last of said cookies worth a full on brawl.
  • Throwing Down the Gauntlet: Bruce only has two words for his children when he gets the cookie they are all fighting for.
    Bruce: Bring it.
  • Tsundere: Jason states that he is only here for Alfred’s baking. His little brother Tim immediately calls his bluff.
Tim Drake: Oh, give it a rest. We all know you like it here.
