This episode has examples of:

• Black Comedy: All the Plantars are more than ready to die when they think they are terminally ill, and especially Hop Pop constantly bugging Anne to "pick a nice spot for him to pass away on" is played for laughs. Need one remind the viewer that Sprig and Polly are children?
• Continuity Nod: Anne can now drive Bessie the snail, because she learned to do so in "Anne Theft Auto".
• Determinator: Although it was later revealed that the Red Leg illness was no more than an dyeing effect of the mushroom that Anne put in their soup, Anne was willing to risk life-and-limb to save the Plantars of dying from the illness since, at the time, she believed they actually had it. Not even Bessie stopping partway, birds pecking her head, or animals on her feet stopped her from towing them to the top of the mountain to heal them.
• Dramatic Irony: Unaware she was in perfect health the whole time, the Plantars keep praising Anne as a martyr every time she cares for them despite being "so ill".
• Eye Scream: Polly's illness causes her eyes to swell shut.
• Foreshadowing: When Anne adds the mushroom to her soup, it flashes the same red that the Plantars turn.
• Funny Background Event: While "sick" Anne is enjoying herself inside, we can see the Plantars struggling with the weather through the windows.
• Furry Reminder:
  Sprig: Rain gear? Hop Pop, we're frogs. We should actually be taking OFF our clothes!
  • Also, the mountainous "stairway" up to the mineral pond. There are deep chasms between each "stair."
    Anne: Wait, these are stairs?! I can't walk up these!
    Hop Pop: Ain't for walking. They're for hopping!
    Sprig: The stairs are made for frogs.
    Anne: Arrgh!
• I Ate WHAT?!: The mushroom Anne added to her soup was not actually meant for frog consumption. Hop Pop used it to scrub the pots, floors, and Bessie's stable. He slowly trails off in realization as he says this...
• I Lied: When the Plantars praise Anne for her heroics in trying to save them when she gets them to the spring, Anne finally snaps and admits that she lied about being sick.
• If You Won't, I Will: Anne says this word per word when she vows to take the Plantars to the mineral pond when Bessie gets exhausted.
• Inelegant Blubbering: Anne's Tears of Joy quickly turn into this after she realizes the Plantars are going to be okay.
  Anne: YOU'RE GONNA LIIIIIIIIVE!
  Polly: Is she gonna stop?
  Hop Pop: Just let it happen, kids. Just let it happen.
• Irony: Anne faked being sick so she could take the day off. But when the Plantars get sick (and then seemingly become terminally ill), she spends the better part of the day working even harder to take care of them and cure them.
• Last Day to Live: The Plantars appear to catch a deadly disease called Red Leg, which gradually turns frogs red; once they turn red completely, they'll die. But it turns out the redness came from the mushroom Anne put in their soup, and they're perfectly fine.
• Not Afraid to Die: As soon as Hop Pop concludes that he's afflicted with Red Leg, he's cool with passing away, and encourages the kids to all let him die in a corner. Later on, Sprig and Polly also become accepting of death, when Anne brings them to the mineral pond and it fails to cure their "red leg."
• Oblivious Guilt Slinging: Anne gets really guilty every time the Plantars bring up how sick they are, unwittingly reminding her of how she's essentially to blame for their ailments.
• Playing Sick: Anne's easily able to fake being sick because she's an alien being in this world.
  Anne: I've got human stuff going on that you don't know anything abou- [cough] -out! Oh no! Sounds like I've got a bad case of the... mocha lattes!
  Hop Pop: [gasps] That sounds HORRIBLE!
• Pun-Based Title: Of "contagion."
• Scaling the Summit: The only thing that can cure Red Leg is a bath in a mineral spring at the top of Health Peak, and the way there is very treacherous.
• "Shaggy Dog" Story: Anne goes on a dangerous quest to take the Plantars to a mineral spring that can cure their Red Leg - only to reveal that they weren't dying at all, only turned red from the mushroom Anne accidentally fed them.
• Sick Episode: Anne and the Plantar family get sick. Anne's faking it, but the Plantars aren't.
• Skyward Scream: Anne screams, "BUT I'M NOT SIIIICK!" to the sky, revealing her treachery to the Plantars.
• Tears of Joy: Anne sheds these when she realizes the Plantars aren't going to die.
• Tongue Trauma: Sprig's tongue swells up due to being sick, and can barely fit in his mouth. It's mostly a bother to those who get in its way when it shoots out.
• Your Days Are Numbered: Frogs that catch the fatal Red Leg disease will slowly turn red over time; once they turn completely red, they pass away.
