History repeats in the most fascinating ways!

Sprig and Polly think their family history is boring until they uncover family secrets.

    Full Recap
TBA...

This episode has examples of:

  • American Gothic Couple: Sprig finds one of these paintings, and it unlocks a secret passageway.
  • Botanical Abomination: Skip Plantar did all kind of weird Mad Science experiments on plants, creating carrots with faces and giant beastly pumpkins.
  • Call to Agriculture: The Plantar family has deep roots in farming.
  • Continuity Nod: Loggle's speech impediment of trailing off the last syllable of a word before he can finish what he actually means comes back here from "Cane Crazy." In this instance, Hop Pop asks him if he's up for an adventure in the underground cave system of the former's ancestors, Loggle appears to say "Absolutelyyyyy...", before screaming, "NOOOOOT!" as Hop Pop runs into the cave.
  • Distinction Without a Difference: An Amphibian "family shrub" is exactly the same as a family tree on Earth.
  • Epic Flail: Polly finds a morningstar flail in Polli Anna's chamber and goes to town with it.
  • Family of Choice: Emma the Newt is a testament of this. She traveled far and wide before she met the Plantars and became an honorary Plantar herself, even though she wasn't a frog. This convinces Anne that perhaps she has a place on the Plantar's family shrub.
  • Foreshadowing: Hop Pop foreshadows the kids' discovery of Emma the Newt.
Anne: Welp, as much as I'd love to help, I'm not gonna find any of my ancestors on your shrub, so... [begins playing a video game on her phone]
Hop Pop: Don't have to be blood to be a Plantar, Anne!
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Like in "Dating Season" Anne's grey undershorts are seen again (pictured on the left).
  • Generation Xerox:
    • Polly might as well be the reincarnation of Polli Anna, a fearsome frog warrior who fought in numerous battles (and grew turnips).
    • Incredibly, Anne has a predecessor of sorts as well! Emma the Newt was an "honorary Plantar" who settled down with the Plantar Family despite not being a frog. What's more, if Anne had been born a newt, she'd look exactly like Emma!
    • Seemingly averted with Sprig... unless he starts developing a strong interest in science like Skip Plantar did.
  • Here We Go Again!: When Hop Pop rushes into the Plantar family's hidden hall at the end of the episode, the kids rush in to save him and Loggle.
  • Hidden Depths: Apparently, Sprig not only has nerves of steel to sweetly talk down a pumpkin monster, but also the ruthlessness to shove it back in its cage.
  • Incredibly Lame Fun: Hop Pop has no idea how to make his own family's history sound cool to the younger generation.
Hop Pop: Great Aunt Gertrude! She was a masterful dirt tiller! I mean, how cool is that?
  • Indy Hat Roll: Pulled off by Sprig while escaping Emma's room.
  • Leeroy Jenkins: While Anne and Sprig try to figure out how to cross Polli Anna's training room, Polly just barrels through swinging a mace.
    • At the end, Hop Pop brushes off the kids' warnings about the dangers of the hidden chambers, and proceeds to charge right into them. Not even 10 seconds later, he and poor Loggle start screaming for help.
  • Only Smart People May Pass: The door out of Emma the Newt's room in the Plantar family hall is shut by a complicated puzzle lock, as befitting someone who loved puzzles and games like Emma.
  • Plot Tailored to the Party: Sprig, Polly, and Anne are each responsible for getting them out of one of the rooms: Sprig talks down (and betrays) the pumpkin monster, Polly barrels through the death trap training course, and Anne solves the puzzle door.
  • The Power of Love: Exploited by Sprig when he uses it to tame the Pumpkin monster so it lets its guard down.
Sprig: Love is the cruelest weapon.
  • Schmuck Bait: Sprig keeps pulling on whatever lever he finds, leading them into one dangerous situation after another.
Anne: Will you please stop pulling levers?!
Sprig: Levers are for pulling, Anne!
  • Secret Underground Passage: There's one right behind the Plantars' fireplace. Not even Hop Pop knew about it!
  • Sticky Situation: Hop Pop spills all the glue in the store on himself. When he arrives home, he has Leopold Loggle stuck to his back.
  • Talking the Monster to Death: Sprig calms down the pumpkin monster by talking to it and hugging it. Then, when the beast lets its guard down, Sprig shoves it back to its cage.
  • Traitor Shot: Sprig gives quite a memorable one during his Revealing Hug with the pumpkin beast.
Sprig: Oh, you horrible, horrible sweet boy... forgive me.
  • Wasn't That Fun?: After beating her way through Polli Anna Plantar's training gauntlet, Polly asks Sprig and Anne if they want to do it again. They steadfastly decline and hurry Polly into the next room.
