  • Emily from Arthur was the only character whose last name was unknown for most of the show's run. This was eventually subverted in the season 24 special Arthur's First Day, where her last name was revealed to be Leduc.
  • In Avatar: The Last Airbender, Toph is the only character confirmed to have a last name. The lack of a surname is possibly justified for most of the other main characters: Aang comes from a culture with no family ties and therefore presumably no family names; Katara, Sokka and Suki grew up in villages of a few dozen people where even if people had surnames they would likely not need to be used in day to day life, since everybody would know everybody; and the royal family of the Fire Nation is a Fictional Counterpart of the Japanese Imperial Family, who do not have surnames.
    • In The Legend of Korra, more characters have full names but still Asami is the only member of the main cast whose family name is given. The series takes place 70 years after the end of The Last Airbender, and during that time it seems that more people have adopted the practice of using family names.
  • Bob's Burgers:
    • Gloria and Al's surnames are unknown. Their daughter Linda changed her last name to Belcher after she married Bob, but her maiden name is left unsaid, which is why their last name hasn't been said.
    • Due to the fact that Linda's maiden name hasn't been said, her unmarried sister Gayle's surname is also unknown.
    • Many other characters have unsaid surnames (various minor adults and children) or are only known by their last names (in the case of the latter, this applies to most of the teachers at Wagstaff School).
  • Caillou: Most of the characters have unknown surnames. The only exceptions are Miss Ann Martin and Mr. Paul Hinkle.
  • The Casagrandes:
    • Par's last name is unknown.
    • The eponymous family has neighbors named Mrs. Kernicky, Mr. Nakamura, and Mrs. Flores. All of their first names are never revealed.
  • Clue Club, like many early cartoons, has a cast full of characters known only by one name: Larry, Pepper, D.D., Dottie, Sheriff Bagley, etc.
  • Cow and Chicken: The family last name of the protagonists is never revealed. In fact, it's a running gag in the series that a lot of characters don't even have last names at all. (Flem reveals in the episode, "Dirty Laundry", that he doesn't have one.)
  • Danger Mouse: Basically the only heroic characters we know the full names of are Ernest Penfold and Professor Heinrich von Squawkencluck. Heinrich's niece in The Remake, also addressed as "Professor Squawkencluck", isn't given a first name (until "Frankensquawk's Monster" reveals it's actually "Professor"). Colonel K just has an initial.
  • Dexter's Laboratory: Dexter and Dee Dee's family name is never revealed, unless we're to take literally the scene in "LABretto" when the doctor says to Dexter's Dad, "Congratulations, Mr. Father."
  • Ed, Edd n Eddy: All three main characters, and most of the others; the only characters with confirmed surnames are the Kanker sisters and Nazz Van Bartonschmeer, the latter of whom had it revealed in the movie.
  • The Fairly OddParents!:
  • Fanboy and Chum Chum: The titular duo's real names are never revealed. We also never learn the surnames of their co-stars aside from Kyle's, Lenny's, Boog's and Oz's. Oz's mom's name is never revealed as well. We also never learn the first name of Mrs. Cram the lunch lady.
  • Felix the Cat (Joe Oriolo): The Professor never has a first name mentioned verbally in 200+ episodes. The episode "The Invisible Professor" does reveal a surname of Nutmeg.
  • Fireman Sam:
    • For the longest time, Sam himself simply went by his first name, or by "Fireman Sam". It wasn't until Season 9's "Magic Norman" that he would be given a surname, Jones.
    • Mrs. Chen's first name is never specified, as everyone, even her fellow adults, just call her Mrs. Chen.
  • Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends is an interesting case. Everyone has only a first name (like Mac) or only a last name (like Mr. Herriman), and only two main cast members are exceptions; Frankie has a last name by association (she's Madame Foster's granddaughter, and her ID confirms her last name is Foster), and Bloo because a 3-year-old Mac apparently thought "Blooregard Q. Kazoo" was a great name. A few minor characters do have full names (Jackie Khones, Goofball John McGee) but they are rarely used.
  • Jade Armor: Will is only called "Will" throughout the series. His last name is never revealed.
  • Hey Arnold!:
    • Until The Jungle Movie (which revealed it to be Shortman), Arnold's surname was subject to several cases of The Unreveal: a smudge over it, poor handwriting obscuring it, etc.
    • Similarly, Mr. Hyunh's first name is never revealed, with a few jokes made about this.
  • Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi: Ami, Yumi and Kaz never had their surnames mentioned in the series. (It could be plausibly argued that their surnames are those of their real-life counterparts, Ami Onuki, Yumi Yoshimura, and Kaz Harada, but those names are never used on-screen.) In an episode where Ami and Yumi went to a hospital to visit Kaz, a receptionist asked them to say his surname and they didn't know it.
  • On Hong Kong Phooey, neither Sgt. Flint's first name nor Rosemary's surname is ever revealed.
  • Invader Zim: Dib and Gaz's last name is never given in the show. Some in the fandom speculate it's Membrane, like their father, possibly because a Nick.com e-card for the show claimed that Membrane's first name was Professor, but Jhonen Vasquez, the show's creator, says that Membrane is in fact the professor's first name.
  • King of the Hill: Boomhauer goes the entire series without his first name being revealed; his friends and family only refer to him by his last name. A brief shot of his wallet in the Grand Finale reveals that his first name is Jeff and he's a Texas Ranger — the law enforcement agency, not the baseball team.
  • Lilo & Stitch:
    • The surnames of the classmates in Lilo Pelekai and Mertle Edmonds' hula class—the latter's posse of Elena, Teresa, and Yuki, and the former's friend Victoria—were never revealed.
    • The owner of the Birds of Paradise Hotel, who is Nani Pelekai's second employer in The Series and the father of Lilo's crush Keoni Jameson, is known only as Mr. Jameson.
    • The owner of Lahui Beach's rental hut and Nani's first employer in the show was only called Mr. Wong.
    • The first names of Lilo and Nani's deceased parents were never revealed, and their last name is known only through their daughters.
    • It's never made clear if Captain Gantu's name is (ignoring rank) longer than that or if it's a case of Only One Name, though it's likely the latter. Agent Pleakley also had this status in the first film until The Series revealed his first name to be Wendy, though we never learn the first names of either of his parents.
    • The Grand Councilwoman has only ever been known by her title. Most of the other aliens in the United Galactic Federation apart from Gantu and Pleakley also went unnamed, though Stitch's Great Escape! gave three of them the names Lieutenant Sledge, Ensign Getco, and First Officer Ombit, which were reinforced by the film's second Monopoly board game release.
  • The Loud House:
    • Pop-Pop's real name is Albert, and his sister's name is Ruth, but their surname (and Rita's maiden name) is unknown. When Rita married Lynn Sr., she changed her name to "Loud". Pop-Pop's friends, Seymour and Bernie, and his girlfriend Myrtle, also have unknown last names.
    • Great-Grandma Harriet (who died before the events of the series) was either the mother of Leonard (Lynn Sr.'s father) or Lynn Sr.'s unseen mother. As such, it's unknown what her last name was, but it could have been "Loud".
    • "Study Muffin" features Ms. Dimartino (whose first name is unknown) and Hugh (whose last name is unknown).
    • Sue from "The Old and the Restless" has an unknown last name.
    • Lynn Sr.'s best friend is named Kotaro, with an unspoken last name.
  • None of the human characters in Making Fiends are given full names, instead going by "(first name)" or "Mr./Mrs. (surname)".
  • Martha Speaks: While most of the characters' full names are known, Carolina and her father (Helen's uncle) Jorge's last names aren't known. Jorge's sister, Mariella, changed her name when she married Daniel Lorraine.
  • Molly of Denali: Most of the kids' full names are known except for Jake. We don't know what his last name is.
  • Monster Buster Club: Among the main cast, Chris and Sam have no revealed last names. Word of God is that they didn't think of surnames for them. Some of the recurring supporting cast also have no last names revealed, like John (by extension of being Chris' brother), Wendy, and Mark.
  • The Octonauts:
    • In a series that has Species Surnames for most characters, Tracker, Min, Professor Natquik, and Ryla have no known last names.
    • Most of the characters in Octonauts: Above & Beyond have the same Species Surnames, but it's unknown if Paani the monkey does.
  • PAW Patrol: A character having both a first name and a last name is rare, as usually they are only known by one first name (Ryder, Katie, Danny) or one surname (Mr. Porter, Mayor Goodway).
  • Peg + Cat: Nobody's last name is revealed.
  • Phantom Investigators: Jericho and Casey's last names are unknown.
  • The Powerpuff Girls:
    • The Powerpuff Girls would logically have last names, due to being Professor Utonium's daughters, but this is rarely acknowledged in any official media. One episode of the 1998 series has the Professor offhandedly mention that they're "Utoniums", but the girls never use their surname. The 2016 series had Blossom refer to herself as "Blossom Powerpuff" before Season 2 went back to "Utonium" as their surname (specifically, their long-lost sister is named "Blisstina Utonium").
    • Professor Utonium's first name is never said. Even when the girls go back in time to when he was a child (where it wouldn't make sense for anyone to call him "Professor") in the 1998 series' episode "Get Back Jojo", a teacher simply refers to him as "Mr. Utonium."
  • In Puppy Dog Pals, with the exception of Frank and Esther Exposition, none of the human characters' surnames are ever revealed.
  • Ready Jet Go!: Unlike the other characters, Lillian's surname was never mentioned.
  • Mordecai and Rigby from Regular Show. Unlike of the park workers (possibly with the exception of Hi-Five Ghost), their surnames have never been revealed. In "Trashboat", Rigby fills out a form to reverse his name change to "Trashboat", which proved to be far more of an embarrassing inconvenience to him than he expected. He simply puts down "Rigby", no discernable last name visible anywhere on the document.
    • In "'Ello Governor" it's implied Rigby's last name may be Riggorson. But this has been neither confirmed nor denied by show creator J.G Quintel.
  • Rocko's Modern Life: Rocko's last name was never given in the show proper. In the episode "Speaking Terms", the on-screen captions saying Heffer and Rocko's names refer to Heffer by his full name Heffer Wolfe, but they only call Rocko by his first name. Creator Joe Murray gave him the punny surname "Rama", only used in promotional material.
  • Skull Island: None of the human characters' last names are known. They're all known solely by their first names, or, in Cap's case, by a nickname.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987):
    • Irma's last name never came up. The last name "Langenstein" came up in the online fandom, but the only place it was officially used in relation to this incarnation was a children's book from 2020, decades after the series ended.
  • Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003):
    • Dr. Chaplin's first name has never been revealed.
    • Recurring characters Angel and Sid are known by only their first names. (Sid is Casey Jones's cousin, but it's not established whether it's on the Jones side of the family.)
  • Most contestants in Total Drama do not have their full names revealed. The only exceptions are Harold Norbert Cheever Doris McGrady IV, Cody Emmett Jameson Anderson, Alejandro Burromuerto, Brick McArthur, Dakota Miltonnote , Cameron Corduroy Wilkins, and Lightning (Rudolph Jackson). This is especially noticeable in the Celebrity Manhunt special, where even paparazzi only ever refer to the contestants by their first names.
  • Like its predecessor, Total Drama Presents: The Ridonculous Race doesn't give the last names of most of its contestants. The only exception is MacArthur, a.k.a. "Valentina Escobar." Oddly, even the host, Don, is never given a last name, unlike the previous host, Chris McLean.
  • Totally Spies!: The last names of the three secret agent protagonists are apparently a closely guarded secret. In one episode, Sam gives her full name as "Samantha Simpson", but the context strongly suggests that's just an alias. Mandy's full name is also not revealed.
  • Few characters in Voltron have last names, even those who are referred to by their military ranks. Last names (based on their GoLion counterparts) were adopted in the comic book series and were later adopted in the revival Voltron Force. "Crossed Signals" does a bit of Lampshade Hanging when they discover that Keith had an Arusian ancestor (identified as "Commander Kogane"): Hunk remarks that he'd forgotten they even had last names.
  • On Wacky Races (1968), the first names of Private Meekley and Sergeant Blast are unknown.
  • Wallace from Wallace & Gromit is never given a last name. Made particularly obvious and funny in A Close Shave, when Wallace meets the owner of a store he's cleaning the windows of:
    Wendolene: Ramsbottom. Wendolene Ramsbottom.
Wallace: Charming. I'm Wallace... the windows.
  • Wander over Yonder: The eponymous Wander reveals in the Season 2 premiere that "Wander" is not his real name. However, he quickly changes the subject before the sentence is finished. A later episode reveals he once went by the name "Tumbleweed"; it's possible he has multiple aliases.
  • Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? seems to prefer that ACME Detectives have only one name. Zach. Ivy. Tatiana. Anyone with more than one name is usually a VILE Henchman.
  • In Winx Club, it might be acceptable for the characters from the Magical Dimension not to have last names — they identify themselves by the realm they're from — but the two fairies who grew up on Earth, Bloom and Roxy, aren't given last names either, although Bloom's is rumored to be Peters.
