Our love interest, folks.

Soul Eater is a post-apocalyptic monster-human gay erotica novel, and the first book in the Monstrous series by Lily Mayne.

The book follows a military grunt, Danny, in a post-apocalyptic no-man's-zone riddled with monsters. One day, Danny's entire unit is wiped out by a mysterious monster known as the Soul Eater, who Danny finds himself strangely drawn to.

Soul Eater provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Apocalypse How: Class 1. As far as Danny knows all of human society has been pushed to the coastlines of the various continents due to the monster invasion. This has caused massive societal disruption, however at least in the US, relatively safe cities still exist.
  • Crush Blush: Danny has the propensity to blush around Wyn... a lot.
  • Declaration of Protection: Wyn promises Danny that he can and will protect him from any form of danger in the wasteland at multiple points in the book.
  • The Dreaded: Wyn. There is only one character in this book who isn't at some point completely terrified of him. He is the famously feared boogey man of the post apocalyptic world.
Danny: I suppressed a shiver, but my heart rate continued to climb as it truly sank in that I was locked in here with a monster. With the Soul Eater.
  • Evil Sounds Raspy: Subverted. Wyn's voice is described as deathly and rasping, fitting in with his terrifying reputation. Even when it's revealed that he was Good All Along his voice remains unsettling and raspy.
Danny: That voice was just... wrong. So unnatural that I knew on a cellular level that I shouldn't be hearing it.
  • Good All Along: Humanity as a whole is terrified of Wyn, who as far as they know, shows up every three years slaughtering thousands at complete random then disappears. It turns out he's actually a supernatural exterminator destroying a parasite that infects and spreads amongst humans without their knowledge. He only kills uninfected humans when they try to kill him.
  • Healing Factor: Wyn takes a sniper shot to the head, which destroys his eye and part of his brain. While he at first appears dead, he recovers from this within days.
  • Mayfly–December Romance: Wyn is an ancient supernatural being who has been alive since the start of human civilization. Danny is a 23 year old fresh military recruit.
  • One-Gender Race: Wyn's species is hermaphroditic.
