    General
  • Occasionally when Yotsuba is surprised, her uvula takes the shape of her hair ribbon.
  • The character bios often contain humorous facts about Fuutarou and the quints, starting with volume 3 (the 1st volume not having any bios, and the 2nd volume's bios being entirely serious).

    Volume 1
  • When Fuutarou finally manages to tell Itsuki that he's supposed to be her tutor, her reaction is a large paneled Color Failure of shock.
  • Fuutarou tries to ask Miku a question at lunch, while Yotsuba keeps interrupting to inform him that she got every single question wrong on her last test.
  • This bit in the dub, thanks to Josh Grelle's delivery:
Fuutarou (realizing that the "Yotsuba" he ran into was Miku in disguise): Hey, that's MIKUUUUU!!!

    Volume 2
  • When Fuutarou is put on trial for seeing Nino in towel. Initially, Miku is defending him by explaining that she was the one who let him, but when Nino and Itsuki accuse him of jumping on top of Nino, he admits that he did without explaining why first. Miku does a complete 180° in a heartbeat:
Miku: (pouting) You're guilty. Commit seppuku.
    Fuutarou: (shocked) M-Miku-san?!
  • Itsuki shows up at the Uesugi residence without warning, and Fuutarou's response is to shut the door in her face out of surprise.
  • During the fireworks festival, Yotsuba buys gifts for Raiha, who gives Yotsuba an adorable Thank You in return. Yotsuba's following Cuteness Overload causes her to briefly consider marrying Fuutarou just to get Raiha as her own little sister.
  • Itsuki fuming and ranting about a food stall owner that gave Ichika extra servings because she was cute, while Itsuki was all but ignored. She's particularly irate about it because they have the same face.
  • Fuutarou and Nino end up alone together after the group gets separated. Nino tries calling the others and tells Fuutarou to do the same, only for him to realize he doesn't have anyone else's numbers.
Fuutarou: It's no good! This phone is useless!!
Nino: You're the one that's useless!!
  • After giving him her email address, Ichika blackmails Fuutarou into getting the other sisters' addresses by threatening to send them the picture she took of him sleeping in her lap. Ichika's mischievous smirk after he reads her email just sells the whole scene.
  • Miku and Yotsuba immediately agree to provide their email addresses, but Itsuki and Nino aren't so willing. How does he convince them? By offering to give Itsuki Raiha's email address in addition to his own, then gloating to Nino that she would be the only one left out in any email conversations between him and her sisters.

    Volume 3
  • In the character bios:
    • Ichika's ability to cover up her stupidity is proof of her acting talent.
    • Nino is described as "The long shot who says she hates Fuutarou, but is for whatever reason close to him."
    • Miku is noted to have never been seen wearing her headphones the right way.
    • Yotsuba only recently learned that jellyfish aren't actually fish.
    • Itsuki is unable to ride a bicycle. She thinks she's hidden this from everyone, but all her sisters know.
    • Fuutarou still can't quite tell the quints apart, so he secretly freaks out a little inside whenever he has to call out to one of them.
  • Yotsuba tries to draw Fuutarou's attention to her new hair ribbon while he steadfastly ignores her. She eventually spells it out while commenting that checks are the current trend. Fuutarou dryly comments that her test paper is ALSO full of checks (incorrect answers). Yotsuba cheerfully responds that she's already being a trendsetter.
  • During a night study session, Miku inquires as to what Fuutarou's favorite type of girl is, with Yotsuba and Ichika also expressing interest, while Nino listens in nearby while pretending to be uninterested. Fuutarou makes a game of it by revealing one of his top three criteria in a love interest for each page they complete. The three points (always cheerful, good at cooking, and cares about her big brother) cause Nino to complain that he's ducking out by referring to his little sister before she can stop herself.
    • Miku morosely complains that Fuutarou's criteria is the complete opposite of her.
    • Ichika puts Fuutarou in contact with Miku, then teases him by asking if his heart is racing. When he denies it, Ichika commands Yotsuba to check his heart rate. She chases Fuutarou around the room before catching him, then affirms that his heart is indeed racing. Fuutarou points out that this is because they were just running around.
  • Operation Doppelganger. The quintuplets using their identical looks to fool a guidance counselor without even changing their normal hairstyles? Pretty funny. Fuutarou trying the exact same thing (and pulling it off about as successfully as you'd expect)? HILARIOUS.
  • The volume 3 extras show that Nino tried to set up rotating kitchen duty for the five quints, but each of the other sisters' first attempts at cooking... didn't exactly work out.
    • Yotsuba starts out carefully measuring ingredients before deciding to just wing it. Nino bans her from cooking duty.
    • Itsuki makes several cups of rice PER PERSON. Nino bans her from cooking duty.
    • Ichika falls asleep and ends up ordering delivery at the last second. Nino bans her from cooking duty.
    • Miku makes one dish. Nino bans her from cooking duty.

    Volume 4
  • In the character bios:
    • Nino's long flowing hair that she's so proud of constantly gets caught in train doors.
    • Miku still has the Sengoku period game she borrowed from Yotsuba, and has no intention of returning it.
  • The Quintuplet Game: While playing a game where one person hides all but one finger behind their other hand, and the rest have to guess which finger they're holding up (with each finger named after a different sister), Fuutarou guesses that Nino is holding up her namesake (index) finger. Nino cheerfully informs him that it was actually the Miku (middle) finger, making sure that the back of her hand is facing Fuutarou when she does the reveal.
    • Itsuki in the background trying to figure out the right finger by looking at her own hands.

    Volume 5
  • In the character bios:
    • Ichika bought a cleaning kit to try and maintain order in her room. It's now lost among everything else.
    • Nino has worn contacts for three years, but still needs five minutes to put them in every morning. For each eye.
    • Yotsuba suspects that her ribbon occasionally gets bigger by absorbing the nutrients in her brain.
    • Itsuki's Idiot Hair occasionally pokes Fuutarou in the eye.
  • An incident with an unknown quint causes Fuutarou to have them all wear the same hairstyle so he can see if he can tell them apart without their usual hairstyles. He then proceeds to completely miss every single guess as to which sister is which. The part that really sells it is the quints' reactions: Ichika is amused, Nino and Miku are annoyed, Itsuki just sighs in exasperation, and Yotsuba holds up the 428 on her shirt in confusion.note
    • When Miku points out that Fuutarou might figure out who the quint is via a distinct mole, Fuutarou excitedly asks her to show hers, causing her to lay back on the couch and quietly admit she wouldn't mind showing it to him. She's quickly interrupted by Itsuki pointing out that the method is flawed since Fuutarou didn't actually see the mole, at which point you can see a very disappointed Miku rise from the couch in the background.
    • Since Ichika is actually the aforementioned quint, she tries to derail the "investigation" by claiming the five have a secret sister named Mutsumi. Yotsuba ends up being the one most shocked and demands to know where "Mutsumi" is.

    Volume 6
  • In the character bios:
    • Ichika has been so busy with work and school that she's been getting ONLY eight hours of sleep a night.
    • Miku is weak to attacks from the right since her bangs hide that eye.
    • Itsuki "has nerves of steel that allow her to ask for seconds of curry at a poor family's house", a direct Call-Back to when she did just that in volume 5.
    • Fuutarou is about to develop a serious stomach ulcer.
  • When Nino and Itsuki end up fighting and leaving the quints' apartment (fleeing to a hotel and Fuutarou's place, respectively), Fuutarou becomes annoyed with Itsuki making herself at home, so he ends up going to complain at Nino's place.
Fuutarou: I'm starting to understand why you were irritated whenever I was around your place.
Nino: Oh? I'm about to call room service, you want anything?
Fuutarou: A drink would be good, thanks.
Nino: 'Kaay, I'll just choose whatever for you.
(Beat Panel while Nino dials out)
    Phone: Room Service spea-
Nino: (yelling at Fuutarou) WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE YOU OWN THE PLACE?
    Phone: I-I'm so sorry!
  • The extras have a two-parter for this volume:
    • The first part has a Bust-Measuring Robot that can measure the quints' collective chest size. Miku comments that it should be 440cm (88 x 5), only for the robot to return a result of 441. An unknown quint cuts the segment short before any more can be revealed.
    • The second part contains a Call-Back to volume 1's omake where the quints had trouble dividing a cake into five equal parts. It shows Fuutarou using his knowledge of geometry to precisely divide a cake into five identical 72-degree wide slices. What really sells it is the BLISTERINGLY smug look on his face, which naturally causes Nino to note that it was a mistake to ask him to do it.

    Volume 7
  • In the character bios:
    • Ichika is apparently so bad with technology that she uses the hunt-and-peck style of typing.
    • Nino regrets cutting her long hair short in the middle of winter.
    • Miku gets winded going up the SINGLE flight of stairs to their new apartment.
    • Itsuki wants to avoid marrying someone with the last name Itsuki at all costs.
  • The quints are trying to think of what would be a good gift to thank Fuutarou for all his help. Four of the five quints have their thoughts influenced by the romance movie they had all just watched. Yotsuba... not so much.
  • The girls nominate Ichika to give Fuutarou a kiss on the cheek as a thank you for tutoring them, but after she tries and fails, Yotsuba steals the moment when she notices a bit of cream on his cheek and kisses it off for him. While the other girls react with varying degrees of shock at her unexpected boldness, Miku's so angry that she momentarily switches to Yandere mode; her sudden aura of bloodlust leaves Yotsuba in a cold sweat.

    Volume 8
  • In the character bios:
  • While Fuutarou and Itsuki are trying to have a clandestine discussion in the outdoor baths (Itsuki in the women's bath and Fuutarou in the mixed baths, which are separated only by a bamboo fence that they're talking over), Itsuki asks if they're considered friends while making a request of him. Fuutarou reluctantly agrees to both, causing Itsuki to run into the mixed baths out of delight to thank him. When Fuutarou protests that they're both only wearing towels, Itsuki claims that it's not a problem between friends, up until reason finally catches up with her and she blushes in embarrassment.
    • Season 2 of the anime has an additional bit, with Nino briefly interrupting this conversation when she enters the mixed baths and shamelessly offers to bathe with Fuutarou. He ends up spoiling the moment by asking her who she is note , and Nino angrily calls him an idiot and storms off, complaining that she went bold for nothing.

    Volume 9
  • The character bios for this volume have all of the quints disguised as Itsuki (It Makes Sense in Context), so the narration itself has trouble telling them apart, hesitatingly calling each of them the fifth sister before eventually identifying them correctly. This also extends to Fuutarou and Raiha's bios, with the narration describing them as "unquestionably" the eldest son and daughter of the Uesugi family.

    Volume 10
  • An awkward situation between Fuutarou and most of the quints is defused when Yotsuba, having been in the shower since before Fuutarou entered the girls' hotel room, walks out with nothing but a towel barely covering her chest (and apparently nothing else, given that the panel only shows above her waist), right in front of Fuutarou. The next panel has her immediately retreating back into the bathroom without a word.

    Volume 11
  • When Ichika plans to quit school to pursue her acting career, Fuutarou manages to find a workaround in the form of making an indie film where he tutors her. The gag comes when he's told he doesn't have enough money for this, at which point he sheepishly asks Ichika to lend him some money. This bears repeating: He's asking the actress he plans to hire to lend him the money to pay her own fee. Ichika laughs her ass off before agreeing.

    Volume 13

    Volume 14
  • Fuutarou and Yotsuba go out on a date, first stopping at a family restaurant. Unbeknownst to them, the other four quints are following them, watching.
Nino: Yotsuba, ditch that guy and let me take your place!
