    Prologue

Prologue

  • Gundham puts a spin on Incoming Ham by being so loud that Kaede's able to pinpoint his location and lead her group straight to him. He's in the same room as Tsumugi and Celeste, and manages to piss off the latter with his speeches that by the time they arrive, she's attempting to throttle him with his own mantle.
Gundham: Ahem. Ebon Witch, I warn you now that the collar you're gripping is composed of pure dark energy from the astral deity Cephiro! Prolonged contact from anyone other than its owner, such as what you are doing right now, can cause even the most resilient souls to catch fire and burn! I warn you for your own safety; unhand my collar!
Celeste: [chuckles darkly] Oh, so we've gone from screaming about utter nonsense to handing out warnings about utter nonsense, have we? Well, I suppose that is at least a step in the right direction. Very well then, as long as we're giving each other warnings, I suppose it's only fair I grant you one as well.
Gundham: Hmph, there is nothing you could possibly warn the Supreme Overlord of Ice about. With my beast lords at my side, reality itself bends to my will! Feel fortunate, however, Ebon Witch, because I, Gundham Tanaka, will indulge your request. What is your warning?
Celeste: Oh, it's nothing much. I'll keep it simple for you, just to make sure you understand. [voice deepens, dropping her European accent] If you don't want me to pull on both ends of your stupid scarf until you see the face of God, then you will do us all a favor, and shut. Up!
  • Celeste's response to finding Hifumi is casually declaring that they must be in hell.
  • What happens once Kaito and Gundham meet? They engage in a monologue-off, while Kaede and Chiaki kill time with some Gala Omega.
  • Gonta accidentally broke the locker he was trapped in by kicking the door hard enough to bust the hinges off, and his attempts to repair it reduced it to a pile of scrap metal.
  • Teruteru wound up in the same room as Sakura and Kirumi. By the time they rendevous with the rest of the students, it's abduntantly clear that his dirty jokes have already worn out their welcome. This doesn't stop him.

Chapter One: The Bloodied Hands We're Dealt

Chapter One: The Bloodied Hands We're Dealt

  • The kitchen doubles as Teruteru's lab, and includes mock-up plans for a 'Sear Naked Restaurant' and various dishes that push beyond the boundaries of good taste. Kirumi notes that "Mister Hanamura's mannerisms are somehow still a burden even when he isn't in the room. It's almost impressive."
  • Celeste breaks character to snap at Kaito for stepping on the table to pose: "Get your filthy foot off the goddamned table, you swine!" She then flips right back to her usual demeanor while everyone gawks at her.
  • The fact that Hifumi was Genre Savvy enough to hunt down all the Monocoins hidden around the accessible parts of the ship before Kaede could find them. Followed by his sheer horror at the fact that Kaede has no clue what a Fan Fic is, and how he lends her his coins in hopes that she's got a Luck Stat more akin to 'an average Shounen hero'.
  • Everything concerning Notes of Nevermore, the anime boxset Kaede gets from the machine. Including the fact that the Yakuza family the protagonist gets tangled up with was originally the Kuzuryuu clan, leading to the creation of Mafia Princess Kuzuhiko as a stand-in.
  • Chiaki plays a game against Maga-Z. Completely with congratulatory hand/finger shake afterwards as she declares 'GGs'.
  • Teruteru pulling a You Just Told Me on Kaede about what color her panties are.
  • Celeste doesn't care for the tacky decor of her room. How does she deal with that? Through sheer Refuge in Audacity, by tricking Gonta into 'borrowing' furniture from Kirumi's lab via convincing him that the maid won't mind.
  • The only one who's really happy with their assigned podium in the trial chamber is Teruteru (who is directly between Sakura and Kaede). Celeste is especially unhappy at being stuck between Kaito and Gundham, and only refuses Kaede's offer to trade spots because she deems her placement (next to the aforementioned Teruteru) to be the only one worse than her own.
  • Leon's question as the trial begins:
Leon: I've got an idea. This is gonna sound really stupid, but... did anyone find a bunch of numbers or something written in blood? 'Cause if you did, flip them over and it probably spells out the killer's name.
Peko: You're joking. No one would leave such blatant and clear-cut evidence behind. It's ridiculous to even suggest something like that.
Celeste: [smirking] Indeed. It would take a truly idiotic person to miss a clue as damning as that, wouldn't it, Leon?
Leon: Oh, like you knew what the hell that meant before that Kyoko chick pointed it out? Screw you, Celeste!
  • Chiaki informs everyone that she checked all the meat in the kitchen by pulling on the bones, much to Teruteru's utter distress.
  • After they've worked out that, contextually, whoever killed Hifumi must have been someone of average or below-average body strength, Gonta cheerily congratulates all the strong people on not being the killer.

Chapter Two: Fast Times at Felony Funland

Chapter Two: Fast Times at Felony Funland

  • Monokuma introduces the titular area with a bombastic song-and-dance routine featuring robotic backup dancers who get cut down en masse during the performance. Even the more reserved survivors are left openly staring at the spectacle.
    • Then Chiaki casually admits that she slept right through it.
  • While the others present are clearly disgusted by the Death Row Delights, Korekiyo isn't phased, casually trying out the Shinguji Stew and reassuring them that, while excessively salty, he doesn't taste any human flesh. Kaede can't help but ask...
Kaede: Kiyo... how do you know what human flesh tastes like?
Korekiyo: [silently matches their stares, slowly taking another long sip of his stew]
    • Korekiyo also comments on how Teruteru seems more offended by how the dish inspired by him is 'greasy carny fast food' than by the fact that it's based off of how he died.
  • After Monokuma pulls another pop-up disappearing act, Kaede grumbles "Would it kill him to give a straight answer for once?" He pops up again just long enough to chirp "Maybe!"
  • Monokid calls Kaede his 'execution buddy', then summarizes the bangle-scanning process as "Show me your junk and I'll flash you!"
  • Monotaro attempts to shoo Kaede and Kaito away from a construction site, claiming that they'd only be safe if they were wearing a helmet like him. Cue an iron beam coming down and nailing him to the concrete, with the aforementioned helmet rolling uselessly away.
  • When teams are being decided for the soccer match, Gundham steps up and delivers a Rousing Speech to Leon ordering him to accept him onto his side. Nobody knows what to make of it, least of all Leon:
Gundham: HA! So, the Luminary seeks to combat the immovable object with the unstoppable force? A wise decision indeed... but it won't be enough to save you! [points dramatically at Kaito, then towards Leon] Listen well, Phoenix! Though it is your vote to cast upon the pyre of contest, choose I, Gundham Tanaka, and I shall deliver unto you a victory more glorious than a lowly mortal could ever imagine!
[most of the others look at him oddly]
Leon: ...What? Dude, not a single thing you just said made any sense... Er... wait, weren't you saying similar crap in the casino...? Ah, screw it; you look pretty buff at least. You're in.
Gundham: BWAHAHAHAHA! Yes! Heed my words; you will find this pact worthy of any sacrifice! We shall stand upon the ashes of his goal laughing uproariously!
Kaede: [to Teruteru and Chiaki] Wow... he's... uh... passionate. Like, crazily so...
Teruteru: I wonder if kicking balls is the only thing that gets him that excited...
Kaede: Teruteru, I will kick you if I have to.
    Teruteru: Promise?
    • Shortly afterwards, Leon attempts to pick Chiaki, only to discover that she's fallen asleep standing up. A small discussion ensues about how impressive her balance is to be able to accomplish this feat. Leon still changes his pick - reluctantly - to Teruteru when he's unable to rouse her.
  • The Monokubs repeatedly accidentally giving away info about the second motive when Kaede and Chiaki go and visit where the construction site used to be.
  • Monokuma's Tunnel of Secrets turns out to be a parody of "it's a small world", starring animatronics of all the students. Leon immediately realizes that This Is Going to Suck, while Korekiyo and Mikan look forward to it, and Kaede attempts to reassure Leon that it won't be so bad... right before the dolls start singing "It's a Bear's World", a Despairing cover of the familiar song cheerfully entreating them to give up. Despite the dissonant lyrics, Mikan still cheerfully hums along.
