• Fan-Preferred Couple: Kaito and Leon are very frequently shipped together due to having similar personalities and interacting with each other multiple times, much to the authors confusion.
• Like You Would Really Do It: One scene in Chapter One teases the idea of Kaede becoming a Decoy Protagonist again via Mondo killing her in a fit of blind rage. Naturally, the next chapter reveals that he missed.
• Memetic Mutation:
  • Ryoma Hoshi has somehow become one, despite not even being involved in the story, on account of him being V3's Chapter 2 victim, ranging from him being the mastermind and the 17th student (complete with a Mukuro copypasta) to him being the replacement for K1-B0 in V3's other cases via the Necromnicon.
  • The Bunk Bed Scenario ^{Warning: NSFW} A fan-made scenario where Kaito invites Mondo, Mikan, and Kaede to his bedroom, where he has a bunk-bed. He calls the top bunk and tells the others to figure out their situation. He remains oblivious to the nature of what is going on below him the entire time, thinking that the three of them are wrestling as he gives encouragement and asks random rhetorical questions to them. Other scenarios tied to it include Chiaki sharing the top bunk with Kaito and distracting him, Leon not being able to sleep because of the noise they are making, and Korekiyo listening in on them with a Tin-Can Telephone.
• Rescued from the Scrappy Heap: One of the authors' stated goals for the series is helping make less popular characters like Teruteru more palatable and entertaining. Notably, they also went out of the way to assure readers that the Monokuma Kubs would not play particularly large roles in the overall story.
• Tear Jerker: The fact that, because of how she was killed, Kaede can no longer play piano(IE, her talent) without suffering from traumatic flashbacks.
