A heroine is fed up with being the bottom of the barrel. As the only of her class year not in the Top 100, Itsuka Kendou (AKA Battle Fist) feels forgotten by the people, and forsaken by her classmates who treats her with aloof compassion.

Izuku Midoriya, AKA Deku, finds hiself in a similar situation. Stuck in a role, uncapable of growing out of it.

What happens when both people find themselves together?

Whatever Happened to Battle Fist? is a My Hero Academia fanfic written by Kakita_Hikaru. Which details the frustration both from Itsuka and Izuku, and where this odd relationship evolves into.

Official Summary

Itsuka Kendou never thought that she would be the dead last of her class in hero rankings. Never thought that she would be the one receiving pity and hating it. When things get too much, and this eventually leads to her drinking with Izuku and revealing why indeed she is a hero.

     Chapter One: Evading Consequences 

  • Above the Influence: While heavily attracted to, Itsuka abstain from taking advantage of Izuku while being so down emotionally (and pretty hammered).

  • Badass Biker: Mixed lightly with Biker Babe, Itsuka (as in cannon) is quite an avid biker enthusiast.

  • Brainless Beauty: Averted. Itsuka, when offered the network and resources from her previous "mentor", declines (quite abruptly) as she wished to be seen as a capable woman; instead of a Pretty face.

  • Can't Catch Up: The reason why the frustrations with the lead. Most of her former classmates appear on the top 100 heroes, but she couldn't; which later explains to Izuku.

  • Celebrity Is Overrated: The primarly view of izuku to the number one position. Overlaps with Inheritance Backlash.

  • Celebrity Superhero: One of the biggests constants in the cannon.

  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Both leads have the compulsion to help, even when nigh burnout. Also, the big reason why the hear each other in roder to help them with their funk.

  • Closet Gay: Played with. Izuku, after hearing that Katsuki rejected Itsuka, mentions it. Not to endear her, but as an observation that he rejected all girls, incluidng his described perfect girl.

  • Cool Big Sis: The Image Itsuka cultivated with her peers. Much to her own chagrin.

  • Determinator: Deconstructed heavily with Izuku. While he keeps the will to fight and keep Japan and the rest of the world safe, it has affected negatively on his self-esteem, as well as personal life.

  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: What kickstarts the story. Itsuka, frustrated by her lack of improvement in the charts, is on the receiving end of the pity of her former classmates (primarily females).

  • Fatal Flaw: Played with. Itsuka tends to be prideful, which limited her development in her career as a heroinne, while also fueling her jealousy to her classmates. Izuku, on the other hand, it's his self-sacrifice. Suppressing himself (Stepford Smiler) as a being for the Symbol of Peace.

  • Get A Hold Of Yourself Man: Played for laughs. The first thought of Itsuka seen Izuku crying is to slap him herself, not that it would help but would be funny.

  • Good-Guy Bar: 'The bar with no Name' is the perfect example of one. Simple, and quiet, out of the media inquisition. A place in which heros as Deku can drown their sorrows and insecurities, with little to no repercussions.

  • Heroic BSoD: The role of number 1 hasn't help a bit Izuku, who at the start of the story seems to on the edge of Alcoholism. Lastly averted thanks to Itsuka.

  • It Was with You All Along: Overlapped with You Are Better Than You Think You Are. Both Izuku and Itsuka find that the best parts of the heroic personas came from them, and not the other way around.

  • Offscreen Inertia: Averted. In this continuity, after the Paranormal war, the rankings turned to previous values of service and sacrifice (values resonance). Yet, the more it changes, the more it stays the same; as the product placements tend to pay better and help with heroic endeavors.

  • Stepford Smiler: The biggest problem with Izuku. The World need more Deku the Hero, than Izuku the man.

  • Title Drop: When she is leaving her garage in her bike, Itsuka finds in the gutter a tabloid with the same title.

     Chapter Two: Yin-Yang 

  • Asshole Victim: Subverted. After the innocent cruelty from the girls (specially Mina); Itsuka leaves, not before she gives a piece of her mind to the girls.

  • Blood Knight: A reason why Itsuka was rejected by Katsuki, as she says:
    Itsuka: Because you know what I really want to do for a girl's night? I want to find a seedy bar, start a fight and walk out under my own power.

  • Celibate Hero: In this continuity, Shoto is helped by Momo coming out as an asexual man.

  • Everyone Can See It: Setsuna mentions that it is rare for Itsuka to wear make-up. This is also mentioned by Momo after they both left the bar, and the innocent dissing from the other girls, when Itsuka reminisces her moment with Izuku.

  • Innocently Insensitive: Mina, in a severe case of In Vino Veritas, almost spills the pitying notion of Itsuka being a minor league heroine; which promps the departure of the protagonist.

  • Insult to Rocks: Played for Laugh when comparing Katsuki behaviour to a Bear. The bear is way more polite.

  • Lonely at the Top: Played straight with Izuku. He wished to be like his idol and Mentor, All Might. Sadly, this included being the lonely number one hero.

  • Of Course I Smoke: Momo mentions, to the surprise of Itsuka, her "medicinal" cigarrettes as a way to unwind. Overlaps partially with Good Smoking, Evil Smoking.

  • Real Men Cook: Played with. Izuku, as a way to unwind and help Itsuka in the aftermath of the girls night, is found baking cookies. As he put, he only does that and Katsudon.

  • Turn Out Like His Father: Or like their father, being that the main reason most girls in the Chaos Class refrain from dating Izuku, after his break up with Uraraka. As Hagakure mentions:
    Hagakure: I mean Deku is nice and all, but he's all 'I have to go now, my people need me!' 24/7 I love the guy, but even when kissing he's going to be thinking about hero work...that's just the kind of guy Deku is.

  • Yin-Yang Clash: Discussed by Izuku. After reading some Martial Art philosophy, in order to further his conversation with Itsuka, he mentions the Ying-Yang or In-Yo to her. In order to put some balance in her own facets, as both fight loving heroine and helpful member of society.

     Chapter Three: Actualization 

  • Always Second Best: Benji, Ochako's fiancée feels like that when compared to the first love interest of Ochako. Itsuka mentally points out how Izuku too feels like the silver medal in the love competition.

  • Amicable Exes: Played partially with Uraraka. When asked by Itsuka why she wasn’t with Izuku, she mentions that she slipped with her Mental Health Program for Heros.

  • Anguished Declaration of Love: After ranting how she knew the real Izuku Midoriya, Itsuka says how much she loves him.
    Itsuka: I hate Deku but I lo-Love you. Shit...this isn't how I wanted to find out.

  • Beleaguered Bureaucrat: What most Hero's are after their patrols and field work. Tales count of Tenya Iida being close to defeating the bureaucracy monster.

  • Declaration of Protection: What Itsuka unconsciously utters to Katsuki and to the unnamed blue-haired after the dance.
    Itsuka: Because, because I hate the idea of someone treating you like that, I hate the idea of you being in someone's bed not because they like *you* but they like Deku.

  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": Inverted and by proxy. Itsuka, after all her experience with Izuku; came to HATE the name Deku. As it became associated of how unwanted Izuku felt.

  • Earn Your Happy Ending: The press and the charts might try to drag them down, or pressure something horrible. Even then, Izuku and Itsuka couldn’t be happier. Always trying to work forward and helping each other.

  • Give Me a Reason: Played for laughs. Itsuka really, really wants a reason to put down Katsuki in the wedding.
    Narrator Itsuka: The first thoughts in Itsuka's mind were not surprisin. 'Fuck no' but rather how good it would feel to cave in Katsuki's stupid punchable face.

  • Gold Digger: Mentioned tacitally by Katsuki, and lately by the press interviewing the surprising improvement in the charts by Battle Fist.

  • Hell Is That Noise: Downplayed for laughs. Itsuka mentions how maddening is her chair's squeak, even tempted to throw it at a villain. Defied, as she loves how it is broke at her liking.

  • Horrible Judge of Character: What Katsuki points Izuku of having. Mixed with with his pattented form of care.
    Katsuki: People. Take advantage of him. Asshole's too good to let trashy bitches ruin him.

  • Immoral Journalist: Mentioned by Itsuka when asked to be Izuku's date in Ochako's wedding.
    Narrator Itsuka: Whoever Izuku brought would get… press and not the good kind.

  • Insecure Love Interest: Or rather Insecure Fiancee. As Benji (Ochako’s fiancée) feels like the silver medal to Izuku's gold.

  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Izuku weakly mentions how happy he is for Ochako. As well as he isn't having problems with his date dancing with another man. Subverted as the second was just a tough act.

  • Klatchian Coffee: Offered by Itsuka to Ochako, who had to refuse.
    Uraraka': Thanks but no thanks. I need to be able to sleep tonight.

  • Old Shame: Played for Drama. After the in-universe events, Ochako proposed a Mental Health program, and asked Izuku to help her with that. But it turned into a wedge between them. Thinking about that fills Uraraka with shame.

  • Painted-On Pants: Itsuka jokes to Izuku if his suit was poured over him.

  • Pink Means Feminine: Described by Itsuka as why she never liked Uraraka's hero uniform.
    Itsuka: She liked girl things sure. But how stereotypical can you get?

  • Please, Don't Leave Me Tacitally implied by Itsuka, the moment Izuku offers to pay for her cab fee.
    Itsuka: Izuku… don't fucking do this to me.

  • The Aloner: Downplayed. As Itsuka forgave her friends after their Innocently Insensitive moment, but need more time apart from them.

  • You Owe Me: Inverted. Itsuka jokes to Uraraka that she's doing her a favour by setting her with Japan's most wanted bachellor.
