Fanfic / The Yggdrasil Diaries

Go To

In the beginning, there was nothing. No prehistoric dinosaurs, no microscopic algae, no anything in particular, there was but one spark of determination floating in the void of nothingness that was the beginning. But then the Spark said: Let there be light, and the rest was history.

The Yggdrasil Diaries are what happens when a Z-List Internet Critic writes a series of stories based on The Infinite Loops fanfiction project on a little forum called Spacebattles.

Each one of the announced books tends to focus on a unique aspect of the project for each book from Looping Houses to pocketing Non-Loopers to the very origin of the Infinite Loops in of itself. The Infinite Loops does lend itself to a boatload of antics across time and space, some joyous and delightful, others take a turn for the grim and hitchcockian. But no matter the story, you can always count on there being a unique star with each 'book' that releases.

Two books have been announced so far in this series, including:

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to Infinity - A man by the name of Drew Lea Maine works at a video store that is about to be carelessly demolished just as a bloke named Jim rescues him and his family from the demolition of the Planet Earth. Now, he wanders the omniverse repeating each universe's timeline fifty times in a row before moving on to the next one.
  • The Impeccable Dr. Riley - A girl by the name of Riley Andersen awakens back on the road to San Fransisco and is naturally weirded out by this as it happens over and over again, in time, she learns of the Loops and the little voices inside of her head and wishes to be shoulder to shoulder with them at some point.

And more books are probably on the way as the series grows and evolves alongside the project on which it's based. But the writer in question has no intention of being the lone writer on this project, He wants to hear from the community at hand. However, it's NOT part of the Infinite Loops Project canon, as many things appearing in this contradict events and mechanics on different Loops, and the author is not part of the community.

The Yggdrasil Diaries comtains examples of:

  • Me's a Crowd: Pedovores are said to be extensions of the Lake of Fire.
  • Mutually Fictional: Wouldn't be The Infinite Loops without it.
  • Mythology Gag: The First Chapter of Book One features a loop from the very first Loop Compilation by the project's founder Innoral for Ranma ½ starring the first Looper: Ranma Saotome.
  • Nuke 'em: Initially aimed at Drew and Crew but soon redirected to Venusuela.
  • Official Fan-Submitted Content: There are chances to submit a few Snips for the following chapter.
  • Oh, Crap!: The Felt have established a straight-up Franchise to spread their evil across the Loops, think about that for a moment.
  • President Evil: A whole crew of Pedovore elites fall into this.
  • Reality-Breaking Paradox: Deleting the ingredients responsible for producing the anchor of all reality is not the best idea, buddy.
  • Recursive Fanfiction: To the Infinite Loops, the hard part is having it be considered as canon by the rest of the community
    • Given that the writer isn't affiliated with the Spacebattles Infinite Loops community, this isn't likely to happen. Especially as several elements already introduced in the Yggdrasil Diaries contradict established canon.
  • Ret-Gone: Getting drenched and erased by Paint Thinner negates the ingredients necessary for producing the lifeform responsible for washing away Legal.
  • Running Gag: Crow's Scream is more or less destined to be this what with the upcoming titles in the series and all.
  • Sequel Hook: If there's another story to be told another time, expect a snip or even an entire book to be made of this sometime in the future.
  • Skyward Scream: Crow's reaction to the Clones. It winds up echoing across space and time itself.
  • Taught by Experience: Nina's fighting style has been refined to quite an extent in which she could approximately keep up with a baseline Naruto Uzamaki. Drew has a desire to improve in the same way...
  • The Gods Must Be Lazy: Applies squarely for Iris, since she's begging Aglaia for the Westerberg Loops.
  • Theme Song: Dead World Walking, a rewording of Dead Girl Walking, is this to the point of the author seeks to add new lyrics with each installment.
  • Throw It In!: The goal for this particular story is that the writer of the book series isn't going to be the sole writer of any of the books showcased.
  • Throwaway Country: Venusuela meets this fate alongside Kim Jong Un and other modern tyrants.
  • Time Crash: There have been a few Loops the cast has carelessly crashed with their antics.
    • Pixel Pinkie: 3 Crashed Loops
  • Unexpected Character: Admit it, no one expected Pixel Pinkie of all things to be Looping! And according to Word of God, it won't be the last.
    • Annie's formative Loop ends up being Yin Yang Yo.
    • And with the recent Punishment Loop, we can now add Stage/Heathers to the list.
  • The World as Myth: Again, Wouldn't be The Infinite Loops without it.
  • You Are Number 6: There is apparently a Universe Numbering System in the Infinite Loops. It is unknown how deep this goes, some admins refer to loopers by name, others by their number, all to establish how beaurocratic Yggdrasil's inner workings can get. Examples include Pixel Pinkie as Branch 223, and Veronica Sawyer at 255.

    And so, our story begins...
