Fanfic / The Daleks Master Plan An AU

Go To

The Daleks' Master Plan: An A.U. is a retelling of the First Doctor serial "The Daleks' Master Plan", written by thufnnnruev and Pink TARDIS. The story is largely the same, but diverges from canon starting in Part 4, when Steven is killed instead of Katarina.

The story can be found here or here.

Tropes:

  • Action Girl: Sara.
  • Always Save the Girl: Subverted in Sara's case. Katarina and Ian try to save her, but fail.
  • Affably Evil: The Monk is very nice to Katarina, Ian, and Sara, but gives them over to the Daleks without hesitation.
  • Anyone Can Die: Sara, Steven, and Bret along with most of the minor characters, albeit offscreen.
  • Apocalypse How: As in the original story, Kembel suffers a Class 6, being reduced to a lifeless dustball by the effects of the Time Destructor.
  • Big Bad: The Dalek Supreme leads the forces on Kembel.
  • Can't Hold His Liquor: Sara gets drunk after one glass of tequila in Part 7.
  • Christmas Episode: Part 7. Ironically, all of the fanfic was made and released in August.
  • Cool Ship: The SPAR, the TARDIS, and the Dalek time machine.
  • Downer Ending: The Daleks' defeat does little to brighten the mood. The Solar System (Universe? Galaxy?) is saved, but nearly everyone except the Doctor, Katarina, and Ian died, including two of the Doctor's companions and the entire planet of Kembel.
The Doctor: What a waste. What a terrible waste.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: The Doctor infiltrates the conference by disguising himself as one of the delegates.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Quite a lot of characters.
  • Double Take: Katarina has this reaction after she sees herself holding Sara's gun.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: It's inconceivable to Mavic Chen that the Doctor is trying to stop the Daleks; he can only accept that the Doctor is trying to usurp his place in the alliance to conquer the universe.
  • Fakin' MacGuffin: In Chapter 6, the Doctor manages to get away from the Daleks by handing over a fake version of the taranium core they're chasing him for.
  • Forgotten Fallen Friend: Subverted - Steven is mentioned occasionally after his death.
  • A God Am I: Mavic Chen declares himself ruler of the Universe and claims to be immortal.
  • Heroes Fight Barehanded: Sara loses her gun shortly after her introduction, but fights just as well without it in subsequent chapters.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Steven, Bret (though it's not seen), and Sara.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: The Doctor realizes that Daxtar is a traitor because he knows that the Daleks' doomsday device requires a core of taranium, even though the Doctor never mentioned it.
  • Killed Off for Real: Steven and Sara die after a handful of chapters each.
  • Point of View: This is told from Katarina's POV.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • There's an offscreen adventue involving some Raxacoricofallapatorians which damaged the TARDIS locks.
Katarina: You said the locks were fine!
The Doctor: It's not my fault the Raxacoricofallapatorians had bad aim!
Sara: Those were Raxacoricofallapatorians? I thought they were mutated limes.
    • Ian mentions he was in a Dalek time ship once - twice, actually.
    Ian: Long story.
    • Ian apparently almost started World War IV six years too early. How he did that is unknown. (They were in Turkey, and Ian had a flowerpot.)
  • Thrown Out the Airlock: How the hostage shoots himself.
  • The Bus Came Back: Ian makes a return to the TARDIS in this story.
  • Wham Episode: Parts 4 (where Steven dies), 7 (Ian's return), and 12 (Sara's death).
  • You're Insane!: During Mavic Chen's Villainous Breakdown, Ian and Sara both call him mad (in Ian's case, he says "you're insane is what you are").
