Fanfic / Luffy's Mother is WHO?

Go To

Luffy's Mother is WHO?! is a One Piece Alternate Universe fanfic co-written by Black' Victor Cachat, writer of Ace Lives, Justice, The Second Age of Heroes, and Sea of Souls, and by rose7anne101, who also wrote D Sways the Waves of Time.

It can be found here or here on fanfiction.net, or on AO3 here.

In this universe, the Battle of Marineford never happened, but that doesn't mean that the madness of One Piece has decreased in any way. Quite the opposite, really: it's only getting crazier on the Grand Line as Big Mom finds out about Luffy's true heritage and everyone is scrambling to get into the best positions to deal with the ensuing fallout as Luffy is abducted, and the Straw Hats will do whatever it takes to get their Captain back.

This fic provides examples of:

  • Ascended Extra: The Straw Hat Grand Fleet have a bigger presence than canon, joining the crew in their journey to Wano and helping them fend off Jack on Zou with the Minks.
  • Asshole Victim:
    • Just like in canon, Sanji fights Judge in an attempt to save Baratie and the Strawhats. However, when Judge tries to use his men as human shields, Luffy (who was brought along as one of Big Mom's children meant to marry Reiju) knocks them away and keeps Reiju from following Judge's orders, allowing Sanji to unleash every bit of rage against him. Given that Judge was an Abusive Parent that experimented on his children and locked Sanji away with an iron mask because the boy had compassion, he deserved every kick coming as well as a touch of poison from Reiju to end his life.
    • A Played With example with Kanjuro, who planned on sabotaging the heroes attempt at fighting Jack the Storm only to be killed by Jack in the process. At that point in the story, none of the Nine Scabbards nor the Strawhats and their allies know that Kanjuro is a spy working for Orochi and that he has been trying to kill the Scabbards and Momonosuke, so his death instead motivates Kin'emon, Nekomamushi, and Inuarashi to kill Jack out of vengeance. When Kanjuro arrives in the next world, Oden doesn't even acknowledge him and lets the traitor be captured by wrath-filled spirits for his crimes.
  • Arranged Marriage: In addition to Sanji's marriage to Pudding in canon, Luffy is set to marry Reiju, not that the Straw Hats are going to take this news lying down.
  • Badass Family: Luffy's adoptive family was bad enough, but if you include his blood family, they are utterly terrifying, to the point that they'd be all but unstoppable if they joined forces with each other.
  • Broken Pedestal: Zigzagged and Played for Laughs. When news of Luffy's heritage with Big Mom reach to the Revolutionary Army, Ivankov is not pleased that Dragon apparently had an affair with Big Mom the whole time and repeatedly slapped him in the head, which the Revolutionary No-Sell it nonchalantly while in a meeting with his Commanders who are just amused of Ivankov losing his cool and didn't mind about the revelation at all. On the other hand, Morley is disappointed in Dragon as he was aware of Big Mom and her dark nature that the Giants are all aware of.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Boa Hancock doesn't take very well the fact that Luffy is now engaged with another woman...
  • Cluster F-Bomb: ... As Hancock does this as mentioned above.
  • Curbstomp Battle:
    • With Luffy handling the interference, Sanji utterly crushes his brother and Judge.
    • With the arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates and their allies at Zou, the Beast Pirates attack force led by Jack are routed in short order.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • In the prologue, King and Queen died in battle against Whitebeard and his crew.
    • Judge Vinsmoke bites the dust after Sanji beats the hell out of him and Reiju blows poison into her father's face as the coup de grace.
    • Kanjuro is killed on Zou by Jack's hand.
    • Jack dies on Zou instead of being incapacitated by being tossed into the sea.
  • Dramatic Irony: As far as Reiju is concerned, she is in a Perfectly Arranged Marriage with Luffy, unaware that both he and Sanji are completely oblivious to the fact Luffy is supposed to be her fiance.
  • Entertainingly Wrong: Because of Luffy misspeling "Party's Bar," the invitation to his wedding goes to other people who don't know him at all, and they of course Freak Out because of being invited to the wedding of "Straw Hat Luffy" in the territory of an Emperor.
  • Generation Xerox: The parents of Zoro and Nami, rulers of a small nation from the East Blue, appear to look like they are the older versions of their missing children. Hopefully the World Government doesn't mistake them to be Zoro and Nami of the Straw Hat Pirates when they attend the Reverie at Mariejois.
    • Word of God is that they will be fine. Even if the World Government recognizes them, they have enough on their plates as is without dethroning monarchs who to all appearances have no clues about their kids.
  • Harem Genre: Averted by both authors; the solution to Luffy's impending marriage and a gathering of ladies with affections towards him will not be resolved by a harem.
  • It Amused Me:
    • Mihawk crosses paths with Dadan and her gang while they're traveling towards Whole Cake Island, seeing how the bandits are struggling while going there and learning that their leader is Luffy's adoptive mother he decides to escort them to Big Mom's territory because of the entertainment of watching Dadan confront the Emperor about who is the true mother figure of Luffy.
      • He also accepts the invitation to Whole Cake Island sent to him, knowing that Luffy didn't invite Shanks at all due to a promise between them.
    • This is the main reason as to why Rayleigh decides to go to the wedding, just to see the look in Linlin's face for his presence there.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Dragon came to Big Mom for supplies badly needed for the Revolutionary Army and she agreed to give them to him in exchange for giving her a son due to Dragon being from the bloodline of Garp.
  • I Owe You My Life: The Straw Hat Grand Fleet are grateful to Luffy and his crew who helped them during the events of Dressrossa and they return the favor by accompanying with the Straw Hats to rescue their captain from Big Mom.
  • I Regret Nothing: Kuzan is pleased that his decision to leave the Marines is the best one after learning the news about Luffy's heritage from Big Mom and knowing how Fleet Admiral Sakazuki is not taking this revelation well.
  • Kiss of Death: How Reiju finishes off Judge after Sanji gives him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: The Big Mom Pirates has yet to learn that Judge is dead and his daughter Reiju becomes the new queen of Germa 66, working with Luffy and Sanji to throw a wrench in their plans.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Sanji kicks the shit out of Judge when father and son have their confrontation on Germa 66, which also gives Reiju the opportunity to finally kill Judge once and for all while he's weakened from his injuries.
  • Not Hyperbole: Vivi is shocked to realize that Sanji's Mr. Prince codename really corresponds with being the (former) prince of the Germa Kingdom.
  • Papa Wolf: Even though he was distant from Luffy and focused on leading the Revolutionary Army against the World Government, Dragon rescues Luffy from Big Mom after he was born, preventing him from being used as her powerful asset like she did to the rest of her children.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: No one in Fishman Island is fooled by Shirahoshi's attempt of dressing up as "Roby" due to her gigantic appearance that stands her out but they all play along with it to not upset the Mermaid Princess who is beginning to leave her comfort zone herself.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Luffy is Big Mom's son by virtue of her making a deal with Monkey D. Dragon, hoping for a strong child before he stole the baby away.
  • Ship Tease: Chopper is implied to have feelings for the reindeer Mink Milky due to how he gets flustered around her.
  • So Proud of You: Katakuri is impressed of his little brother Luffy's victory over Doflamingo he witnessed, stating he made the right choice to stand back and see Luffy's strength personally.
  • Sneeze Cut: Bege suffers this as Yasopp proclaims himself to the "Godfather" after receiving news of his son Usopp's new bounty with an epithet of "God", celebrating it with his fellow Red Hair Pirates.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Ace never died in this fic.
  • The Stations of the Canon: Despite having killed Judge, Luffy and Sanji are still headed for Wholecake Island for the upcoming wedding, as Sanji's adoptive family has still been threatened, and because that is where everybody else knows where they are going.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: When Luffy first meets Reiju, he immediately remarks that she looks like "a female Sanji".
  • Tranquil Fury: The Straw Hats left behind are basically living in a state of this, which is terrifying everyone around them.
