Illimitable: The Child of the Sannin is a Self-Insert Naruto fanfic written by Two Chimps Without One.

It tells the tale of Hibiki Senju, the product of a shinobi scientist's attempts at Creating Life. The catch? The soul used to breathe life into the baby wasn't naturally grown, but stolen from the world beyond. Brought back to life in a body with nearly every known bloodline-limit in Naruto canon, and with a post-enlightenment mind to boot, Hibiki must come to grips with life in a world where godlike abilities are commonplace.

This fanfiction series contains examples of:

• Adaptational Wimp: The characters of Naruto, in the original series they can dodge super-sonic attacks and resist impacts that can destroy entire buildings or even towns, In this fanfic they are helpless against simple guns.
• Anyone Can Die: Seriously. Before the first quarter of the story had even finished, the author killed off Hiruzen Sarutobi and his descendents, and then turned around to kill Rasa of the Sand and the Sand siblings. Then, not to be outdone, Hibiki later goes on to kill the Ame Orphans, with Hanzo's fate being questionable.
  • And be sure to keep in mind that Hibiki and Katsuo nuked Iwagakure. That village is gone, now.
• Action Girl: Granted he wasn't doing much to augment his power, Dai still managed to smack Hibiki around for a good while. Keep in mind this is after Hibiki's Mastered the curse mark, the lightning cloak, and several of the eight gates, and has blown up villages.
• Anti-Villain: Say what you will about how he goes about it, Katsuo can be considered an example. Thoroughly discussed by Hibiki, who grapples with whether or not he should fight Katsuo over his goals.

• Badass Longcoat: Comes somewhat out of nowhere, but Hibiki adopts one years after having lost his first 'lucky jacket'.
• Berserk Button: Hibiki's last life is rapidly becoming one, depending on who's insulting it.
• Body Double: Hibiki has become known for having his shadow clones take his place during fights; others have begun copying him to varying success.
• Boom, Headshot!: Hibiki does this to frequently to Katsuo and his group. It never works
• Calling Your Attacks: Hibiki does so about as often as he refuses to. Explained in the sense that he's somewhat certain he won't get a third chance at life, so he may as well enjoy this one while he has it.
• Combat Pragmatist: Hibiki, when he's in a situation where he knows having a lengthy pride-filled fight would be counter productive. Case in point? He didn't even bother fighting Nagato, Yahiko, or Konan, he shot them all in the face.
• Curb-Stomp Battle: As time goes on, more and more examples pile up. First to come to mind are, Hibiki vs Don, round 2. Don couldn't even stand up against a shadow clone not using any power-augmenting abilities.
  • Noboru vs Onoki
• Dangerous Forbidden Technique: The Eight Gates can magnify a user's power up to one hundred times, but each subsequent gate gets more and more lethal, up to death for the eighth and final one. Hibiki gets around this with his shadow clones and his healing factor. Dante ends up naming Hibiki's lightning-influenced Falcon Punch this.

• Death by Adaptation: Oh god, so many bodies. Hiruzen Sarutobi and his descendants, Rasa of the Sand and his kids, Nagato and the Ame orphans, Hanzo, Iwagakure...
• Demolitions Expert: Team Dante. Suboro can kill people with genjutsu, Noboru can use his gentle-fist abilities to exponentially increase his striking power, and Hibiki's skillset at times literally revolves around his ability to blow things up.
• Doorstopper: At 67 chapters, Illimitable sits at 500+ thousand words, and the author says it's only half done.
• The Dreaded: Katsuo.
• Ditto Fighter: A staple of Hibiki's fighting prowess is using his sharingan to quickly copy new techniques, and use poorly-mastered ones within seconds, before going home to study, master, and expand upon them.
• Fatal Flaw: Hibiki's is rapidly becoming his pride. As time goes on and he gets stronger, he has been noted as repeatedly having sought out fights with strong opponents. This hasn't cost him victory yet, but it has had disastrous consequences regardless.
• Foreshadowing: Word of God says any fight even remotely hinted at is almost guaranteed to happen.
  • The Common Tongue is incredibly similar to Japanese. The Gregorian calendar is used as a way of measuring time. The Eagle dimension was introduced to Hibiki as Amerigo. Hibiki completely missed the hints that this world shared more than just passing similarities to his home, and only caught on once he was faced with irrefutable proof that they were one and the same.
• For Want Of A Nail: The author has quite a body count growing, and it's affected the world greatly. Perhaps the most shocking being the deaths of the Ame Orphans, leading to a cultural revolution in Amegakure and Hanzo being dethroned.
  • There's also the fact that Hibiki and Katsuo obliterated Iwagakure during their second fight. The survivors then almost all died in a suicide attack on Konoha.
  • Or that Danzo ordered the assassination of Rasa of the Sand, leading to the deaths-by-proxy of Gaara and his siblings.
• Hammerspace: Hibiki's specialty when it comes to fuinjutsu.
• He Who Fights Monsters: Hibiki fears this for himself, as he continues fighting Katsuo and Zetsu
• Hero Killer: Katsuo and his group, bare minimum, have killed Hiruzen Sarutobi, resulting in the deaths of Asuma and Konohamaru, as well
  • Hibiki, as well - he's killed Nagato and his group, and Hanzo.
• Improbable Age: A lot of Hibiki's feats happened before he was ten!
• Infinite Supplies: Whilst dissecting the Shadow Clone technique, Hibiki figured out that it can be used to violate a law of physics, specifically that neither Matter nor Energy can be created out of nothing. He uses this to, among other things, create limitless ammunition for his guns, and to top up his chakra with shadow clones mid-battle.
• The Juggernaut: Most of the Undead, but Katsuo above all. He fights, in rapid succession, Dante, Mito, Washita and Gamadoto, Jiraiya, Orochimaru, Danzo, Sakumo, a weakened Hibiki clone, and Mito again before he was defeated, and he's still not dead.
  • "Is he fucking gone yet? We're running out of badasses."
• Killed Off for Real: It's been shown that there is no such thing as plot armor. Sarutobi's dead before bearing children, Gaara's father died, meaning the Sand siblings are dead too, and that's not even counting the deaths that happen later on in the story.
• Living Emotional Crutch: Dai to Hibiki
• Logical Extreme: Hibiki, meet chakra. Chakra, meet science. Nearly every major technique or bloodline Hibiki comes across, he spends a great deal of time studying so he can take it far beyond its original purpose. The best and most-often seen example being the shadow clone technique, which he studied and perfected so extensively that his shadow clones can no longer be dispelled unless they are actually killed, which, given his healing abilities, is difficult bordering on impossible, meaning they can go on to fight as him, exhaust his opponent, be dispelled, and then let another shadow clone or the 'Alpha' Hibiki himself go in to finish the fight.
• Magic Versus Science: Sort of. Hibiki steadfastly refuses to accept why chakra can do X, Y, or Z, 'because chakra', and instead tries to figure out specifically what does what, how it does it, and how it can be expanded upon. To the point where he concluded that Ay's Lightning Cloak worked by over saturating the body with electricity, allowing muscles to use one hundred percent of their power and increasing the body's covalent bonds to become nigh-invulnerable. He has yet to figure out exactly how chakra works, in the sense of how it's able to violate the laws of physics, but he is able to apply what he knows to what he doesn't, and move from there.
• Major Injury Underreaction: After his fight with Zetsu, Hibiki, exhausted and low on chakra, isn't healing as well as he usually does, so when he notices a pretty deep gash in his gut, his reaction is of dull surprise.
  • Completely averted during Hibiki's first visit to Eglin. After being blown out of the sky, he finds his chest is mostly gone and he can visibly see most of his major organs. He flips out.
• More Dakka: Early on, Hibiki figures out someone, somewhere, is supplying the Elemental Nations with guns, albeit very early flintlock/civil war era designs. He ups the ante by first creating a revolver, then an assault rifle, and using his Something from Nothing technique to produce ammunition.
• My God, What Have I Done?: Hibiki, multiple times throughout the story when he realizes exactly how powerful he's becoming. Perhaps most prominently after he nukes Iwagakure during a fight with Katsuo.
• Original Character: Filled with them, but most prominently being Hibiki himself. Stated in the first chapter, the story was not a self insert.
• Past-Life Memories: A major source of Hibiki's power and resources.
• Patient Childhood Love Interest: Dai. She showed interest in Hibiki from pretty much the moment the two met, and waited years before he finally reciprocated.
• Precision F-Strike: Thus far, Dai has only ever cursed once, when she was terrified Hibiki had gone to kill himself after he blew up Iwagakure.
• Reincarnation: Hibiki and the Undead, in a way.
• Refuge in Audacity: When faced down with Ay and Bee, Hibiki buys time for an ambush by singing Rapper's Delight.
• Running Gag: Hibiki oft-mentions an all-consuming desire for a pair of jeans.
• The Reveal: Finding the North American Aerospace Defense Command, and subsequently learning that the Naruto world and Hibiki's are one in the same, not separated by universes, but by time.
  • Also an example of The Reveal Prompts Romance: Discovering that this wasn't some coma-induced dream finally prompted Hibiki and Dai to get together.

• Shipper on Deck: Pretty much everybody, even, it was revealed, he himself knew Dai had interest in Hibiki, and was simply waiting for it to fall into place.
  • Off-screen, Hibiki was said to have locked Minato and Kushina in a room together and refused to let them out until they 'saw what he did'. They started dating soon after.
• Shout-Out: Hibiki lives and breathes this trope, quoting movies from his previous life, gaining inspiration from and subsequently naming a great deal of his attacks from Dragonball Z, and learning How to fly by remembering and emulating Iron Man.
• Solar and Lunar: Many of Hibiki's most climactic battles are often at night or in stormy conditions, and are pre or proceeded by earth-shaking revelations or other such bad news for Hibiki.
• The Unfought: For various reasons, Hibiki and Minato have yet to have any serious battle.
• Took a Level in Badass: As time goes on, people begin picking up on Hibiki's post-enlightenment, scientific thought, and are subsequently becoming much more powerful as a result.
• Wham Shot: The crux of many of the fights are built around these. To name a few:
  • During Hibiki's fight with Emi, he opens the Eight Gates. And later, it was a shadow clone she had been fighting the entire time.
  • During Hibiki's fight with Katsuo, the reveal that he had been using the eight gates in conjunction with the curse mark, from pretty much the beginning, and still wasn't making a dent in Katsuo's defenses
• Wham Episode: The entire post-Kiri arc was a series of these. First Hibiki's discovery that the airport wasn't an airport, but an air force base. And to top that, then there was the discovery of NORAD, buried under thousands of years of rubble.
  • When Hibiki calls a parley with Katsuo, one thing leads to another and he gets punted to Amegakure, whereupon he is discovered by, and promptly shoots, Yahiko and Konan, resulting in Nagato summoning the Jubi's corpse. He has to deal with this now.
• Wise Beyond Their Years: Hibiki, due to his memories from his old life.
• Wolverine Claws: After discovering his Kaguya bloodline, Hibiki immediately takes to this as his primary usage of it. Later he receives tutelage from the clan itself, but by this point he's established as an unarmed specialist as opposed to a weapons user, and doesn't utilize them as often as he does the healing abilities.
• You Shall Not Pass!: Dante, Suboro, Minato, and Noboru hold off everything that remains of Iwagakure, after Hibiki inadvertently blows it up.
