Crossed Lines is a One Piece Peggy Sue fanfic by Primordial Vortex, writer of Supernova (One Piece), Legend of the Monkey God, The Black Emperor, and The Emerald Phoenix, on FanFiction.Net and Archive of Our Own. It can be accessed here and there.

This time around, the Straw Hats reunite in the past once more in the form of alternate-timeline versions of themselves and their comrades. Chaos ensues as the incredibly overpowered crew of multiversal misfits decide to reembark the journey that they set out together on during their previous lives.

This fic provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Little Rika from Shells Town is a Cheerful Child. Because Zoro wasn't there to protect her from Helmeppo's pet wolf this time, she has been reduced to a Broken Bird who barely responds to anyone.
  • Adaptational Angst Downgrade: In contrast to the above example, some of the Straw Hats have less mental baggage to worry about than their canon selves.
    • Nami gets to enjoy a stable childhood with Bellemere and Nojiko after she kills Arlong, ensuring that she does not have to work for the people responsible for conquering her home and killing her adoptive mother.
    • Kaya is much happier since her parents are still alive, ensuring that she and Usopp have a closer relationship with each other.
    • Sanji managing to escape Germa 66 with Reiju in tow and preventing Zeff from amputating his own leg has ensured that he doesn't hold himself responsible for his adoptive father losing his leg nor worry about if he's the only member of his family to still be a decent human being.
    • Reiju growing up under Zeff's care has given her a much better sense of self-worth since Zeff is a much better father to her than Judge ever was.
  • Adaptational Badass: Just about every member of the crew are a lot more powerful than they are in canon. This is thanks to both past knowledge (and their powersets from their respective timelines) as well as the non-time travelers having mentors who did time travel:
    • Luffy is practically a downsized version of Kaido from his Devil Fruit and is virtually unstoppable.
    • Nami wields the Soul-Soul fruit and has Conqueror's Haki along with her existing skills in staff-fighting and weather manipulation.
    • Usopp is a highly proficient archer in addition to his skills as a marksman.
    • The Going Merry is a full-blown brigantine instead of the humble little caravel it was in canon thanks to Kaya's desire to join Usopp in his journey forcing Merry to think bigger in designing the ship.
    • Hiyori is a lethal swordswoman capable of curb-stomping Tashigi in one hit instead of disguising herself as a courtesan.
    • Vivi has Conqueror's Haki and the Sand-Sand fruit.
    • Yamato casually ripped off her own wrist bombs despite being weakened from the Sea Stone shackles and got off Wano after grabbing Hiyori.
    • Kuina in canon is dead. Kuina in Crossed Lines is currently stronger than Zoro was much farther into his journey.
    • Even Kaya is implied to be more capable thanks to having Usopp as a mentor. In canon, she was an Ill Girl, had a couple chapter long arc, and then was rarely seen afterwards.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Reiju works at the Baratie with Sanji after both of them escaped Germa 66 while she only showed up during the Whole Cake Island arc in canon.
    • Yamato and Hiyori show up at Loguetown way before their canon debut in the Wano arc.
    • Brook appears at Loguetown long before the Florian Triangle.
    • Chopper joins two arcs early at Whiskey Peak due to Robin stopping to pick him up from Drum Island.
  • Adaptational Gender Identity: In canon, Yamato is a person of Ambiguous Gender Identity who uses male pronouns while in this story, she is a cis-female all the way through. According to Primordial Vortex, the reason why she used male pronouns in the previous timeline is that she thought she needed to in order to be taken seriously as Oden's successor.
  • Adaptational Name Change: Zeus is renamed Thor by Nami in her timeline.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Nami has no stated sexuality in canon while Vivi is heterosexual. Here, both are explicitly bisexual, being Luffy's lovers as well as each other's.
  • Adaptational Superpower Change: Considering how a good amount of the Straw Hats come from different timelines, this is bound to occur:
    • Luffy has the Fish-Fish Fruit, Model: Red Dragon that allows him to transform into a crimson-colored version of Kaido's dragon form.
    • Nami has Big Mom's Soul-Soul Fruit in addition to her canon staff-fighting skills and weather powers.
    • Vivi possesses the Sand-Sand Fruit that Crocodile had in canon.
    • Usopp ate the Time-Time Fruit by accident and promptly lost it after he accidentally went back to the past while choking on the fruit.
  • Ascended Extra: Kaya, Kuina, Vivi, Yamato, Reiju, and Hiyori are full-fledged members of the Straw Hats.
  • Crossover: Plenty, though with a few exceptions in the form of Sanji and Yamato:
    • Luffy hails from the Dragon Timeline in which Kaido was killed by Whitebeard after Oden resolved to defeat Orochi. Whitebeard happened to be trying to visit at the time, so the entire main crew was there to help Oden take back Wano. Yamato was then adopted by Oden.
    • Nami and Vivi come from the Mochi Timeline where Luffy had Katakuri's Mochi-Mochi Fruit.
    • Usopp comes from CRUSH!, another of the author's One Piece fanfictions.
    • Zoro hails from the "One Punch Luffy" timeline, one of Vortex's unwritten ideas.
    • Robin comes from a timeline in which Luffy was an apprentice of Shanks and ate the Rumble-Rumble Fruit.
    • Chopper hails from a timeline where Luffy ate the Tremor-Tremor Fruit.
    • Brook comes from a timeline where Luffy ate the Gold-Gold Fruit.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Literally every battle so far.
    • Luffy sends Higuma into the air with a single punch when he and his bandit gang try to accost Shanks and his crew.
    • Nami trounces Arlong and his crew before eating his soul.
    • Buggy is trounced by Luffy and Nami when they run into each other.
    • Luffy kicks Krieg's ass when he tries to steal the Baratie.
    • Alvida and Buggy get their asses collectively kicked by the Straw Hats at Loguetown.
    • Zoro casually smacks Smoker out of the way at Loguetown.
    • According to Sanji, Luffy utterly destroyed Aokiji when they first met in his timeline. This is because Sanji's Luffy was himself a time traveler already and had full access to his power.
  • D-Cup Distress: Downplayed compared to canon, Kuina is more accepting of her more womanly figure though she still has moments where she's annoyed by it when it gets in the way of her swordplay.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • Arlong has his soul sucked out by Nami when he accosts Bellemere.
    • Johnny and Yosaku both succumb to scurvy due to the Straw Hats forgetting about the events that led to their meeting.
    • Don Krieg and his pirates (minus Gin) go down with their ship thanks to Mihawk after Luffy casually sends him back to his ship by grabbing him by the face.
    • Rather than being eaten by the Lord of the Coast, Higuma is instead eaten by a Calm Belt Sea King after Luffy sends him flying during his first appearance.
  • Disappointed in You: Luffy and Nami are disappointed at Buggy for being so comically weak despite being a former member of the Roger Pirates with Shanks after they easily defeat him.
  • Everyone Has Standards:
    • Because Zoro wasn't present at Shells Town, Helmeppo's wolf savaged Rika. Helmeppo himself was so horrified that he ordered his men to kill said wolf and has never returned to town since, all while sending money to pay for Rika's medical bills.
    • Sanji refuses to flirt with Kaya because she's dating Usopp, who lampshades that women romantically involved with a crewmate are the only women he considers completely off limits.
  • Expy: Dragon!Luffy's appearance is stated to be a combination of Luffy's canon appearance and that of Broly from the Dragon Ball series.
  • Girl on Girl Is Hot: When Vivi and Nami share a kiss when reuniting, Sanji outright faints in joy while Crocus goes stock-still.
  • Identical Stranger: Kuina lampshades how Tashigi, save for their cup-size, is the literal spitting image of her, much to the latter's confusion. She even wonders if having sex with Tashigi would count either as incest or masturbation.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite coming from different timelines (Only Nami and Vivi came from the same one), Luffy's polycule still manages to form, with the current members being Nami, Vivi, Robin, and, according to Yamato, Hancock.
  • No Sense of Direction:
    • Brook found Zoro at Marineford, arguing with Sengoku that east is always to the right.
    • Apparently Kuina is just as bad as Zoro, having somehow gotten the two of them to the West Blue while searching for Syrup Village.
  • "Not Making This Up" Disclaimer: Kaya is dismayed to learn that islands where it rains lightning isn't one of Usopp's tall tales but an actual place where several of the Straw Hats have visited.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Nami has a more stable upbringing since Arlong is no longer a problem, meaning that she's much more well-adjusted.
    • Kuro is exposed and arrested much earlier than canon, meaning that Kaya is never orphaned.
    • Zeff never had to amputate his own leg since Sanji could use Geppo to catch fish from the ocean from the waters around the island they got stranded on.
    • Zoro manages to save Kuina from her canonical fate, allowing her to live and join the Straw Hats.
    • Zoro and Kuina getting lost results in no one saving Rika from Helmeppo's wolf, resulting in her being savaged by the wild animal.
  • Polyamory: It's implied most of the monster trio of the Straw Hats (yes, even Zoro), end up in multi-partner relationships:
    • Luffy, as of the first and only chapter, has Nami, Vivi, Hancock (implied by Yamato), Robin, and implicitly Yamato.
    • Zoro has Kuina due to Zoro saving her in time, and possibly Hiyori and Tashigi.
    • Sanji has one due to varying timelines; in one timeline, he was with Baby 5, and in the other, he had Charlotte Pudding.
  • Red Baron: Luffy is now known as "The Cataclysm" instead of Straw Hat due to his powerful use of Conqueror's Haki that causes catastrophic effects whenever he fights, such as his brief spar with Mihawk.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder: At Loguetown, Alvida asks who's the most beautiful woman on the sea. Unfortunately for her, Luffy and Yamato immediately give answers she doesn't like: Robin and Hancock respectively.
  • Running Gag: Each member of the Straw Hat crew being from a different timeline and expecting different crew members and/or for Luffy to have a different Devil Fruit.
  • Seen It All:
    • Sanji is the only crew member with previous experience with time travel, as his Luffy was from the future.
    • The canon Straw Hat crew find the insane weather of the Grand Line outright nostalgic, unlike the panicking newcomers.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Kuina never dies in this continuity due to Zoro saving her from falling down the stairs.
    • Kaya's parents survive thanks to Usopp rallying the villagers of Syrup Island to arrest Kuro by showing them his bounty poster before he could integrate himself with the residents. Kuro almost manages to lie his way out of it, but Usopp infiltrating the mansion and unveiling his bag of weapons and poison put a stop to that.
    • Arlong never kills Bellemere since Nami got to him first.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Sengoku reacts to the Straw Hats forming with much stronger members with resigned exasperation.
  • Trust Password: Nami and Vivi realize they're both from the same timeline by asking about their crew from said timeline.
  • Used to Be a Tomboy: Downplayed, but while on the cusp of puberty, Kuina was very distraught at how quickly she was developing, later on when she's 20 (she's a year older than Zoro), she's obviously grown into her body allowing her to still be a formidable swordswoman but still having a touch of femininity.
