Fanfic / Courtney's Crusade for Redemption

Go To

Courtney's Crusade for Redemption is a Fix Fic by AnonBrowser based on Total Drama All Stars and inspired by Total Drama Redemption. In this story, the adult Courtney goes through a Peggy Sue experience and finds herself as an 18-year-old competing on Total Drama All Stars again, giving her a chance to repair her relationships with Scott and Gwen, as well as potentially stop the Big Bad.

This story has examples of:

  • Alternate Universe Fic: As the description says, Courtney travels back to her younger 'All Stars' body to compete again and try to Set Right What Once Went Wrong.
  • Bears Are Bad News: Courtney's opponent in the boxing challenge is the series' recurring bear. She wins.
  • Berserk Button: Courtney will go ballistic if anyone abuses or hurts Scott.
  • Call-Back:
    • In her narration, Courtney often references events from past seasons; she also does it sometimes when justifying her actions or giving advice.
    • Zoey invokes her 'Commando' personality in the boxing challenge when her opponent is Anne Maria, which makes her a much more effective, tougher fighter.
  • Character Development: Courtney is much more reasonable and mature, as she had more than time to think about her past mistakes and how to correct them now that she has the chance.
  • Character Narrator: The whole story is narrated from Courtney's point of view.
  • Crazy-Prepared: When working with Zoey in helping Mike to overcome Mal, Courtney sets things up just in case Zoey gets eliminated before they're ready to deal with Mal using multiple taped recordings of Zoey encouraging Mike.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Discussed by Word of God as the reason Lightning gets kicked off second; Courtney knew ahead of time what to build in the sculpture challenge, but because her memories from last time around are from the perspective of her being on the Heroic Hamsters, she was unprepared for Lightning being a Dumb Jock.
  • Downer Beginning: The first chapter shows Courtney as her older, 'current day' self, telling the reader of how much she regrets her past decisions and how they affected her life for years afterwards.
  • Earn Your Happy Ending: Courtney endures alot to correct her mistakes, but it all pays off in the end. By the end of the story she's still best friends with Gwen, in a loving relationship with Scott, and got half the prize money.
  • Erotic Dream: At one point Courtney wakes up and hears Heather having one involving Alejandro, much to the former's displeasure.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Chris may have low moral standards when it comes to getting ratings, but he won't stand for anyone swearing on what's supposed to be a family show.
    • Duncan still tries to warn Courtney and Zoey about Mal, despite having tried to rile up Courtney's jealousy of him dating Gwen earlier.
  • Fix Fic: Courtney's actions are set to correct all the things that went wrong with her and other characters in the canon season.
  • Frame-Up: Mal frames Sam for eating all of the Marshmallows used for the elimination ceremonies. Surprisingly, Sam isn't disqualified for it, though he is eliminated that episode.
  • Graceful Loser: Some contestants take their eliminations quite well; Lindsay is the most prominent case, as she makes it to the final three and only gets eliminated because of Courtney choosing Scott as the other finalist, something that Lindsay fully understands.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: Courtney and Gwen, once they rekindle their friendship.
  • I Know Mortal Kombat: Zigzagged with Sam; for the boxing challenge, everyone tells him that just because he's good at playing Punch-Out!! doesn't make him a good fighter, and, luckily for him, he doesn't need to find out. Later, it turns out that being a great Mario Kart player makes him very good at boat-racing.
  • The Immodest Orgasm: In the first chapter, the older Courtney comments that she lives very close to Heather and Alejandro, and she's unlucky enough to hear whenever they have a heavy argument or sex, both things being very usual.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite Courtney's intervention, some events happen just as in canon.
    • Alejandro gives the Villainous Vulture the victory in the first challenge.
    • Lightning, Jo and Heather get eliminated in the same challenges, and for similar reasons, as in canon.
    • Mike still gets accidentally hit in the head by Scott, which brings Mal back.
    • Mike defeats Izzy in the boxing challenge, with 'Mal' fighting her at first; it later diverges from canon as Mike ends the fight as Vito.
    • Duncan destroys Chris' cottage ("It was a mansion!") and is sent to jail.
    • The island still sinks down because of the damage caused when Chef dug the moats for the final challenge.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Courtney has managed to salvage her friendship with Gwen and get a decent, loving boyfriend, plus fixing her previously badly damaged reputation. As a bonus, she also gets half of the prize's money.
  • My Greatest Second Chance: Courtney has a chance to turn her life around.
  • Official Couple:
    • As in canon, Zoey and Mike, and Sam mentions him still dating Dakota.
    • Courtney and Scott.
    • Heather and Alejandro are revealed to stay as one long after the show's end.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Courtney, once she forces Alejandro's early Robotic Reveal, decides to get even on him for his past misdeeds by pushing him to the lake; Duncan saving him convinces Chris to send Duncan to the heroes' team and Courtney to the villains' one, something that she wanted to avoid.
  • Peggy Sue: The story's basic premise, with Courtney as the time traveler.
  • Point of Divergence: Courtney's actions cause several changes in the new timeline.
    • Due to getting assigned to the Villainous Vultures from the start, Courtney has the chance to talk with Gwen and fix their friendship early on. This also changes the runners of the first challenge, which gets Sierra eliminated while Lindsay gets to stay.
    • Lindsay staying with the Heroic Hamsters is a big nail as well, as they do much better than in canon, which also gives Courtney the chance to eliminate several antagonists via voting them off whenever the Vultures lose.
    • As said above, Courtney orchestrates several eliminations. She also gets Chris to be more fair, mostly making it impossible for any contestant to sabotage the votes.
    • Courtney's intervention prevents Mal from taking over Mike's whole personality. Also, Mal is outed relatively early, so the other contestants are both wary about him and willing to help Mike to keep Mal's misdeeds under control.
    • Courtney and Scott become an Official Couple and the latter wins the season.
    • Cameron using Scott as shark bait isn't Played for Laughs. This contributes to Cameron's elimination.
    • Courtney gets the immunity idol, so she's now protected from being voted off, and Cameron is voted instead.
    • Sierra, Duncan and Alejandro are eliminated much earlier than in canon, while Lindsay and Sam are eliminated much later. Gwen, Zoey, Mike, and Cameron are also eliminated earlier than in canon, but less so when compared to the others.
    • Since Duncan gets assigned to the Heroic Hamsters from the beginning, he feels more pressured to protect his bad guy's reputation. This gets him to lose whatever respect the other contestants had for him when he's finally eliminated.
    • Mike gets rid of Mal before the final challenge, and Courtney and Scott become the finalists.
    • Scott wins in the end, and he and Courtney share the prize money.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Courtney, with Chef's help, convinces Chris to handle eliminations and voting fair and square, by reminding him of her own lawsuits against the show.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Out of the challenges, Chef shows himself as reasonable, and even friendly. He even offers himself to keep Courtney's idol safe for her so none of the other contestants can steal it.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Courtney's main goal.
  • Shout-Out: An In-Universe example; during the pancake eat-off, Lindsay triggers a trap involving bees. Courtney is stunned at Lindsay unintenionally doing a perfect recreation of Nicolas Cage with his memetic "Not the bees!".
  • Shown Their Work: Invoked by Courtney, covering her knowledge of the season's events by telling everyone that she had seen and analyzed the reruns of past seasons, justifying her Genre Savvy moments.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Lindsay, of all people. She actually shows a lot of insight at times, giving good advice to the other Heroic Hamsters and, generally speaking, helping them to do better than in canon.
  • The Stations of the Canon: As said above, some events stay the same In Spite of a Nail .
  • Took a Level in Badass: Sam does much better in challenges, even winning the first post-merge's challenge; he mostly does this it due to being motivated to win for Dakota.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Courtney, due to learning from her past mistakes. Scott is also much less antagonistic, and even asks Sam for advice on how to ask Courtney out.
  • We Used to Be Friends: The older Courtney reveals that, because of her previous actions, Bridgette ended their friendship a long time ago. Also, Duncan lost all his friends because of him destroying Chris' cottage and going to jail.
  • Xanatos Speed Chess: Courtney often finds herself changing her plans whenever something happens In Spite of a Nail that derails her strategy. The best example is when she ends in the villainous team because of her own misjudgment; she uses this chance to talk with Gwen and fix their friendship early on.
