Avengers High is an Avengers fanfic set in an Alternate Universe to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and is the first part of the Avengers High Universe series of fanfics. It focuses on the children of the Avengers:

  • Andy Stark (son of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts)
  • Ben Rogers (son of Steve Rogers and Sharon Carter)
  • Nathan Banner (son of Bruce Banner and Betty Ross)
  • Erik Thorson (son of Thor and Jane Foster)
  • Chris Fury (son of Nick Fury and Maria Hill)
  • Abby and Peter Barton (children of Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff)
  • Chloe and Izzy Barton (children of Barney Barton and Bobbi Morse)

It is followed by the "Phase Two" of the Avengers High Universe, the Adventures series: S.H.I.E.L.D. Adventures, Stark Adventures, Rogers Adventures, Banner Adventures, Asgard Adventures and Barton Adventures.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Heroism: Barney Barton. In the comics, he was a super villain. Here, he's a good guy.
  • Adaptational Villainy: Ivan Petrovich. In the comics, he's Natasha's foster father and chauffeur. Here, the former is the same but he's also the Director of the Red Room.
  • Affectionate Nickname:
    • Abby is called "Abs" and "little Abby" by her family and friends.
    • Natasha is called "Nat" and "Tasha" by Clint, Barney, Bobbi, Maria, Sharon, Steve, Tony and Bruce.
    • Clint, Natasha, Barney, Bobbi and Sharon call Fury and Maria "Mom" and "Dad".
    • Abby refers to Andy, Nathan, Tony and Bruce as "Science Bros" (see Ascended Meme below).
  • Airborne Aircraft Carrier: The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
  • Alien Invasion: Loki calls in a Chitauri army to invade Earth.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: The super villains take over the Helicarrier.
  • Alternate Universe Fic: For the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This in particular is an alternate version of The Avengers.
  • Arrow Catch: Loki catches an arrow fired at him by Peter, and smirks. Then the arrow explodes.
  • Ascended Meme: "Science Bros", the name given by the fans to Tony and Bruce, is given In-Universe as a nickname for the two of them and Andy and Nathan.
  • Author Appeal: The writer is a fan of Clint Barton and Natasha Romanoff, so Clint/Natasha is canon and the main character, Abby Barton, is their daughter.
  • Awesome, yet Impractical: The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. It takes a lot of Andy's arc reactor technology to keep it afloat and is likely very expensive.
  • Abby and Peter, Abby and Chloe, Abby and Izzy, Abby and Ben, Abby and Chris, Ben and Erik, Ben and Andy, Andy and Chloe...
  • For the adults: Clint and Natasha, Clint and Barney, Clint and Bobbi, Steve and Sharon, Steve and Thor, Steve and Tony, Tony and Bruce, Thor and Bruce, Fury and Maria...
  • Nick Fury wears a black trench-coat.
  • Loki also has a long coat as part of his Asgardian attire.
  • For the kids: Ben and Abby, Ben and Peter, Ben and Chris, Ben and Erik, Ben and Andy, Abby and Peter, Abby and Chloe, Abby and Izzy, Abby and Chris, Andy and Chloe and Andy and Nathan (when the latter is Hulked out).
  • For the adults: Clint and Natasha, Clint and Barney, Clint and Bobbi, Natasha and Bobbi, Steve and Sharon, Steve and Thor, Fury and Maria, Tony and Steve and Thor and the Hulk.
  • Beauty Is Never Tarnished: Abby, Chloe, Izzy, Natasha, Bobbi, Sharon and Maria just get small cuts or covered in dirt and dust.
  • Berserk Button:
    • It's not a good idea to diss Abby and Peter's Russian heritage.
    • It's also not a good idea to imply that Abby is crazy because of her schizophrenia and psychic powers.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • Bruce and Nathan Banner - the Hulk inside the meek and quiet scientists.
    • Steve and Ben Rogers - they are two of the nicest and politest people you can come across, but can hit hard in a fight.
    • Peter, Chloe and Izzy Barton - extremely nice but will absolutely defeat you in a fight.
    • Bobbi Morse - very kind and caring but also deadly in a fight.
  • Big Applesauce: The climatic fight sequence takes place in Manhattan.
  • Ben towards Peter, Chris, Andy, Nathan and Erik.
  • Thor towards Loki.
  • Barney towards Clint.
  • Steve and Thor towards Tony, Bruce, Clint and Barney.
  • Abby towards Peter, Andy, Ben, Nathan, Erik and Chris.
  • Chloe towards Izzy.
  • Bobbi towards Natasha and Sharon.
  • Big Damn Heroes
    • When Clint, Natasha, Barney, Bobbi, Tony, Steve, Sharon, Bruce, Thor, Maria and Fury come to the school to help the kids fight the KGB.
    • The kids return the favour when they attack the Helicarrier. Abby and Izzy even take the time to quote the Trope Namer:
Abby: Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us?
    Izzy: Big damn heroes, sir!
    Abby: Ain't we just.
  • Big Good: Nick Fury, since he commands all of the heroes. For the Avengers, it's Steve.
  • Boring, but Practical: The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents all use conventional firearms.
  • Bottomless Magazines: Averted. Every character who uses a gun has to keep reloading their weapon and Clint, Barney, Peter and Chloe have to keep picking up their already-used arrows and putting them back in their quivers.
  • Bulletproof Vest:
    • The S.H.I.E.L.D. agents all have one built into their suits.
    • Peter has a bulletproof suit to prevent his haemophilia affecting him during a fight.
  • The Cameo:
    • Agent Coulson appears in a video message to the kids, asking why they're hacking into S.H.I.E.L.D. He then lets them carry on with it.
    • Stan the janitor at the kids' high school is basically the Stan Lee cameo.
  • Combat Pragmatist:
    • Bruce and Nathan, when Hulked out, have a style that consists of bashing, smashing and using whatever is nearby.
    • Natasha, Bobbi, Abby, Chloe and Izzy - expert martial artists - are not above using groin kicks and biting.
    • Clint, Barney and Peter are skilled archers, but also use handguns and knives.
    • Steve and Ben use a gun as well as their shields.
  • Comic-Book Movies Don't Use Codenames:
    • Bruce avoids saying "Hulk", instead calling his alter-ego "the other guy". However, other characters call him "Hulk".
    • Clint and Natasha are only called "Hawkeye" and "Black Widow" by S.H.I.E.L.D., Trick Shot, Swordsman and the Red Room. Otherwise, they're just known as "Clint", "Natasha", "Nat", "Tasha", "Barton" or "Romanoff".
    • Barney and Bobbi aren't referred to as "Trickshot" or "Mockingbird", instead just being called "Barton", "Morse", "Barney" and "Bobbi".
    • Tony is never referred to as "Iron Man", the closest being Thor calling him "Metal Man".
    • The closest to "Captain America" that Steve is called is "Cap" or "Captain"; he's usually just called "Steve" or "Rogers".
  • The Comically Serious: The serious and determined Steve and Ben Rogers, compared to the Deadpan Snarkers Tony and Andy Stark and Boisterous Bruisers Thor and Erik.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • The dialogue from when the kids first see the Helicarrier take off to when it turns invisible is directly from The Avengers.
    • Andy's "Headcount" speech to Loki is similar to the one that Tony gave Loki in The Avengers.
  • Crazy-Prepared:
    • The parents created a set of battle suits and weapons for the kids on the off-chance that they ever found out about their parents' jobs and had to fight bad guys.
    • Clint, Barney, Peter and Chloe have a ton of Trick Arrows for any situation.
  • The kids do this when attacking the Helicarrier.
  • Abby is able to do this thanks to her psychic powers.
  • Nathan and Bruce, when Hulked out.
  • Erik and Thor, the former being half-Asgardian and the latter being full Asgardian.
  • Ben and Steve, due to the Super Soldier Serum.
  • The Barton family in general.
  • Cursed with Awesome:
    • Nathan with the Hulk. On the one hand, he turns into a miniature green rage monster when angry. On the other hand, he's able to use the Hulk's strength as Nathan and able to use his intelligence as the Hulk.
    • Abby with her schizophrenia. On the one hand, she's hearing voices and seeing hallucinations. On the other hand, this made her develop psychic powers, meaning that the hallucinations are often Foreshadowing and she can detect danger.
  • Hulk is this for everyone, even his teammates.
  • Natasha has this reputation, even with the Red Room who trained her.
  • Everything Is Online: Andy and Chloe search for their parents and the bad guys by accessing all satellite and traffic cameras.
  • Fanboy: Andy, Ben, Nathan, Peter, Erik and Chris get very excited about the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier.
  • Fangirl: Abby, Chloe and Izzy also geek out about the Helicarrier. Chloe also fangirls over Loki.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: The adult Avengers don't get on with each other but when it comes down to it they'll work together to fight the bad guys.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Abby hallucinates her deceased paternal grandfather Harold Barton, foreshadowing her parents' personal enemies joining forces.
    • On the Helicarrier, Abby "sees" explosions, broken glass and bullets, a few seconds before the Helicarrier is attacked by the KGB.
    • Also on the Helicarrier, Abby doesn't trust Jasper Sitwell. It's revealed in Rogers Adventures: The Winter Soldier that he's HYDRA.
  • Generation Xerox: The kids are basically teenage versions of their parents, to the extent that you can take scenes with the adults, give them to the kids and there wouldn't be much difference.
    • Andy and Nathan's friendship is basically Tony and Bruce's "Science Bros" friendship.
    • The tension between Ben and Andy is the same as the tension between Steve and Tony.
    • Abby and Peter are basically younger versions of Natasha and Clint.
  • Genius Bruiser:
    • Steve and Ben Rogers, both super soldiers and brilliant strategists.
    • Tony and Andy Stark, both techno geniuses and able to kick ass in the Iron Man suits.
    • Bruce and Nathan Banner, both scientists and Hulks.
    • Bobbi Morse, biochemist and expert spy.
    • Chloe and Izzy Barton, science and computer nerds and expert fighters.
    • Erik Thorson, expert in astrophysics and Norse mythology and half-Asgardian.
  • Good Is Not Nice:
    • Andy and Tony are both arrogant jackasses who have problems with authority, but they still want to make up for Stark Industries' past mistakes.
    • Erik and Thor are Boisterous Bruisers who smash first and ask questions later, but they show Undying Loyalty to their family and friends.
    • Both Hulks are rampaging monsters which smash friend and foe alike, but just because they don't like you doesn't mean they won't protect you.
