Go To

Untameable is a crossover fanfic between Harry Potter and The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System: Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong written by Araceil on Archive of Our Own.

Harry Potter goes to sleep after the Final Battle and awakens in a strange place, surrounded with strange people, calling him strange names. So he does what any reasonable wizard would do in such a situation - he throws himself off the mountain and gets as far away as possible before looking for answers. Unfortunately, it seems as though he may have absconded with someone else's body in the process. Or... is it? And what was that presence that tried to burrow into his mind? And why the sudden aversion to numbers? And who is 'Qi-ge'?

In the meanwhile, Cang Qiong Mountain is busy freaking out and wondering how the hell they can find Shen Qingqiu before anything irreversible happens.

The fic was announced to be discontinued by Araceli on 29 December 2022, together with all of their other works in the Harry Potter fandom.

Contains the following tropes

  • Adaptational Villainy: Luo Binghe, courtesy of the narrative being held by people not excusing his every act by Protagonist-Centered Morality. He actually tries to poison Ming Fan for bullying him and his attempts to get closer from his teacher considerably unsettle Harry as he basically stalks him and has No Sense of Personal Space. Subverted, as it turns out to have been the original-timeline, adult, blackened Luo Bingge, rather than his more innocent younger incarnation all along.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Downplayed when Yue Qingyuan tries to use Xiao Jiu as this, since Shen Qingqiu grew to hate it. Played fully straight when Shen Qingqiu uses Qi-ge, with Yue Qingyuan almost fainting from happiness.
  • Alcohol-Induced Idiocy: A preteen Yue Qi was so hungry he ate several half-rotten, fermented apples. He promptly went loopy and declared he would free every slave in the country and marry Xiao Jiu — his adult self cannot be reminded of the incident without blushing up a storm.
  • Amnesiac Dissonance: Qi Qingqi and Liu Qingge believe Shen Qingqiu suffers from this, as the infamously haughty and regally composed Peak Lord would never lower himself to spit curses and call people out on their dickish behaviour. Yue Qingyuan concedes Shen Qingqiu isn't that kind of person, but Shen Jiu very much is.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Zhuzhi-lang declares Harry is under his protection for helping him to obtain a Sun and Moon Dew Flower seed and using a spell to protect the naga from light.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Harry won't let transmigration prevent him from indulging into this.
    • He lays waste to roving brigands busy assaulting a wedding procession, gaining the bride and bridegroom's effusive gratitude.
    • He slaughters the Skinner right as the demon was busy gloating to Luo Binghe and Ning Yingying.
  • Child by Rape:
    • Harry strongly suspects Shen Bai's mother from having been a victim of statutory rape, since she was very young when she gave birth to her son and a young, impressionable disciple wouldn't be able to say no to her teacher.
    • Yue Qi was born from a slaver using one of his cargo as entertainment.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance
    • Capital punishment hasn't been a thing in the United Kingdom since the early sixties, so Harry is deeply shocked and disturbed when the child slavers he brought back to be sentenced by the villagers they victimized are publically hanged.
    • School corporal punishment wasn't considered as reprehensible until the 20th century. Yue Qingyuan (Nice Guy extraordinaire) is befuddled by Shen Qingqiu making his students run laps and copying texts when they're unruly and sends his own hall masters to Qing Jing Peak because he thinks the disciples need more whippings.
  • Disposable Sex Worker: The Skinner gruesomely murders fourteen prostitutes? Who cares about some whores! The Skinner kills two concubines belonging to the local magistrate? Well, thats unacceptable! Harry feels rather salty about the double standard, lecturing Luo Binghe and Ning Yinying about the value of life for everyone, not merely the powerful and wealthy.
  • Doppelgänger Gets Same Sentiment: Averted by Shen Qingqiu but played straight by Yue Qingyuan regarding young Luo Binghe. If the Sect leader is rather paranoid about letting a potential Yandere for his Shizun stay in Shen Qingqiu's immediate viciny, Shen Qingqiu argues this is another person entirely who shouldn't be condemned for crimes he never committed.
  • Double Standard: Rape, Sci-Fi: The mere idea of using Shen Qingqiu's body for sexual gratification unnerves Harry, who doesn't consider said body as his property.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Learning of Shen Qingqiu's former slave status upset anyone hearing it, even Qi Qingqi. And Yue Qingyuan is aghast when Harry details how Voldemort's ideology ravaged the wizarding world and how Dumbledore groomed him to be a willing sacrifice.
  • Evil Counterpart: Yue Qingyuan is deeply upset and disgusted by Bingge because of their similarities; both of them fell deeply in love with the same person, but where Yue Qingyuan treasured Shen Jiu too much to not respect him, Bingge only cared about forcing his whims upon Shen Qingqiu.
  • Fantastic Racism: Humankind and demonkind are mutually hostile to the point that Zhuzhi-lang is genuinely surprised by Harry's compassion towards him. Harry muses both species probably suffer from running into the most cruel elements of each society when interacting.
  • Good Versus Good: The Cang Giong Mountain Sect just wants to find their amnesiac, sickly martial brother to bring him home and help him to recover. Harry just wants to go back to his world and not being assaulted by sword-wielding psychos.
  • Hates Being Touched: Both Shen Jiu and Harry, consequence of their Dark and Troubled Past. It sours him on Luo Binghe since the boy has No Sense of Personal Space and just won't listen to his Shizun's repeated demands to stand back.
  • I Have Many Names: Our protagonist mainly goes by Harry Potter, but also reflects he now has three other names — Shen Qingqiu, Shen Jiu and Shen Bai, each with their characteristics.
    • After resolving his identity crisis, he drops "Shen Jiu" and asks to be known as Shen Hali.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Madam Lin tells Harry she will have some wine waiting for his return when he declares he's going to report Lord Chen's favorite mistress's demise to the man, as the notable is a beast of a man. She wasn't exaggerating.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Luo Binghe and Ning Yingying still get taken by the Skinner but are rescued in the nick of time by their shizun.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold:
    • Harry Potter is the kind of hero who will jump into danger to rescue innocents then tear a new arsehole to said innocents for endangering themselves to begin with.
    • Shen Qingqiu genuinely was a haughty, prickly and unpleasant man. Yue Qingyuan still reveals that he hated slavers, doted on Ning Yingying in his awkwardly paternal way and refused to beat many of his students in spite of the educational standards.
  • Kill and Replace: Bingge ran his fourteen year old counterpart with a sword and abandoned him to die alone in the woodshed while he impersonated him to get closer from Shen Qingqiu.
  • The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: Following his transmigration, Harry develops an aversion to numbers, manifests violent impulses and cannot help but feel conflicting emotions regarding Qi-ge.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Yue Qingyuan is horror-struck when Harry bluntly tells him his abandoning of Xiao Jiu and refusal to give any kind of explanation about it made Shen Qingqiu suicidal.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Liu Qingge flat-out assaulting Shen Qingqiu to drag him back to Cang Qiong Mountain convinces Harry that he cannot trust the cultivators, since they let this sword psycho chase after him. He later interrupts Yue Qingyuan's peaceful encounter with Harry, which infuriates his sect leader as Harry immediately fled.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Luo Binghe quickly gets on Harry's nerves because he just won't stop trying to "care" for him, sleeping in his bed and offering to brush Shizun's hair. He's even worse when he drops his mask and reveals himself as Bingge, as he corners Shen Qingqiu and kisses his wrist in spite of the other man repeatedly asking him to stop.
  • Prone to Tears: Ning Yingying spends almost the whole time she's interacting with Harry for the first time bawling her eyes out. To be fair, she just was rescued from a demon interested on skinning her alive and is shocked to learn her beloved shizun has been enslaved in his youth.
    • Luo Binghe just won't turn the waterworks off. It exasperates Harry partly because the man genuinely loathes tears and partly because the boy is using it as a manipulation tactic.
  • Psychopathic Manchild: Bingge throws a screaming fit when his attempt to gain a sweet and kind Shizun doesn't yield his expected results, sobs a lot when frustrasted, and his pursuing of Shen Qingqiu comes not from the grounded and mature wish to enter into a relationship between equal partners but from his desire to own a plaything that won't oppose his wants.
  • Race Lift: Caucasian Harry has transmigrated into Chinese Shen Qingqiu's body.
  • Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Su Mingyan and Fu Jinhai invite Harry to their wedding, driving Harry paranoid with the eventuality of them trying to imprison or indebt him to them. He's floored when they don't even try to do this, they just wanted to express their gratitude for protecting the bride from brigands.
  • Shout-Out: Mu Qingfang possesses a sword that could prove if someone still is a virgin.
    • The Old Palace Master is named Jin Guangwei for being a disgusting old creeper wearing gold.
  • Single-Target Sexuality:
    • Yue Qingyuan's feelings towards Shen Qingqiu go beyond platonic, and this since their shared childhood.
    • Bingge is a much darker example, being obsessed by his Shizun no matter Shen Qingqiu's incarnation.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: A properly winded-up Harry tends to drop such vulgar curses that Qi Qingqi believes he's possessed. Yue Qingyuan ruefully remembers that Shen Jiu was such a potty mouth that the slavers were torn between awe and horror when listening at the boy.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: Both Harry and Shen Jiu are in full agreement over this.
  • Squick: In-Universe, Harry casually dropping that Lord Chen unknowingly had sex with a demon wearing his dead concubine's skin makes the notable barf.
  • The Talk: After finding pornographic materials in the Disciple dormitories, Shen Qingqiu forces his students to attend a sex-ed session. He's rather enlightened himself by the class.
  • Teens Are Monsters: Luo Binghe outright poisons Ming Fan in such a manner the other boy would have been crippled for life without immediate medical intervention. Yue Qingyuan doesn't believe at all it was an accident, as he can see Luo Binghe hides a wrathful side. Subverted, as it turns out Bingge is not a teenager at all, but an adult posing as such.
  • Tomato in the Mirror: Harry never transmigrated, Shen Qingqiu suffered such a violent Qi deviation his soul regressed to a former incarnation — so Harry will never get to go home, he's already home.
  • Too Spicy for Yog-Sothoth: Harry manages to yeet the System out of his mind before it can root itself within his soul.
  • Trapped in Another World: Harry panics when he gets his hands on a world map and realize the landmass is far too different to be China.
  • Trust Password: There's a small poem runaway slaves can recite to identify each other. However, it was subverted by Wu Yanzi who convinced Shen Jiu to follow him only to abuse him worse than the Qius.
  • Unexpected Virgin: Qi Qingqi first refuses to believe the results when Mu Qingfang's medical exam establishes Shen Qingqiu (known for visiting brothels) is a virgin. She quickly shuts up when the same test fails on her.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Shen Qingqiu actually lagged far behind his martial siblings in sheer firepower but was able to stay at their level by virtue of his pinpoint precision and control of qi.
  • We Want Our Jerk Back!: The Qing Jing Peak's disciples used to complain about their Shizun being a heartless, demanding teacher. They change their tune after Yue Qingyuan sends Qiong Ding Peak's hallmasters to replace the sick Shen Qingqiu since these men just won't stop dishing punishments, and immediately swarm their Shizun when he comes back to beg him to not leave again.
  • Windows of the Soul: Even after transmigrating, Harry's eyes are still the same in his new body.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Not only Bingge had no problems poisoning Ming Fan to destroy his cultivation, he was ready to murder his own fourteen year old self to replace him.
  • Yandere: Bingge is obsessed with the eventuality of gaining a sweet and gentle Shizun, forcing several iterations of Shen Qingqiu to suffer qi deviations and Death of Personality as he tries to rewrite them into a doll that will do anything he wishes.
  • You Remind Me of X:
    • Liu Qingge immediately gains Harry's loathing and mistrust for acting just as spoiled and arrogant as Draco Malfoy at his worst.
    • Luo Binghe's insistence to follow and tend to his Shizun majorly creeps Harry, who cannot help but compare him to a young Tom Riddle.
