A Freak, A Creep, & A Psychopath
by Legandary Legacy is their take on the "Unique Power-Ups" fanfiction challenge, in which Team 7 of Naruto are given the powers and personalities of characters from different series. In this particular instance, Naruto is a Toberry from Final Fantasy, Sasuke is Iori Yagami of the The King of Fighters series and Sakura is B.B. Hood of Darkstalkers. As you can imagine, things go wrong real fast.
Tropes Appearing in A Freak, A Creep & Psychopath
- Absurdly Sharp Blade: Naruto's knife is so sharp that at one point, he slices through a counter top by complete accident simply trying to cut some vegetables. Upon inspecting it however, Tenten concludes that it's just a ordinary rusty knife, implying that its supernatural sharpness is a result Naruto wielding it.
- Adaptational Badass: Team 7 is much more powerful then their canon counterparts were at this point in the story, to the point that they're arguably the strongest shinobi in the village.
- Adaptational Villainy: ...The problem is that they're a trio of depraved little monsters who make the Akatsuki like girl scouts in comparison.
- Special shout-out to Sasuke, who manages to be far more vile than both Canon!Sasuke and Iori Yagami, even their worst.
- Ambiguously Human: While Naruto still appears human, he has the mannerisms of a Tonberry. It's also vague on whether or not he's alive or undead.
- Ambiguous Situation: Kurama has yet to appear in any capacity, so it's unclear how Naruto's condition affected him.
- Black Comedy: This story's bread and butter.
- Butt-Monkey: Every moment Kakashi spends with his "student" is guaranteed to be miserable for him.
- Crippling Overspecialization: The reason Naruto is so deadly is because his opponents are typically busy fighting his teammates, causing them to forget about him and give him an opportunity to *doink* them. As we see in his fight with Lee, he doesn't fair as well in one-on-one fights where his opponent is completely focused on him. Granted this flaw practically a non-factor in grand scheme of things thanks to his nigh invulnerability, but it still allowed Lee fair far better against Naruto than guys who are way above his weight-class.
- Cool Big Sis: Ayame is one of the few characters who isn't (rightfully) afraid of Naruto. In fact, she refuses to see him anything other than the Cheerful Child who dreamed of being Hokage and thinks his recent personality change is simply the result of being traumatized by his equally horrifying teammates.
- Covert Pervert: Despite being devoid of all emotions, Naruto still enjoyed being pressed into Ayame's bosom enough to not immediately kill her.
- Crack Fic
- Cute and Psycho: Sakura.
- Dead Fic: Sadly, the story hasn't been updated since May 5, 2015.
- Death by Adaptation: Naruto ends up murdering Orochimaru in Chapter 10.
- Demoted to Extra: Team 8 doesn't participate in the Chunin Exams, which was their debut in the manga. As a result, they've only appeared in one scene so far.
- Destructive Savior: Sasuke and Sakura kill Gato and his army of thugs, thus freeing Wave Country of his tyrannical reign. Too bad that they wind up destroying the bridge that they were supposed to be protecting in the process.
- The Determinator: It doesn't matter what happens to Naruto, he will never let go of his lantern.
- The Dreaded: The members of Team 7 become this to just about anyone they encounter. Provided they survive that encounter of course...
- Empty Shell: Not only has Naruto lost all but the slightest trace of emotion, he can also only vaguely recall his life prior to being becoming a Tonberry.
- Expy: Aside from the one mentioned in the page summary, Chapter 11 implies that Kakashi will eventually become one for Scorpion of Mortal Kombat.
- Faux Affably Evil: Sakura is cutesy and cheerful young girl who murders without a hint of remorse.
- Hates Being Touched: Naruto absolutely hates physical contact, to the point that he was seconds away from killing Ayame just for touching him.
- Heroic Comedic Sociopath: Team 7 is this in spades.
- Horrifying the Horror: Team 7, particularly Naruto, have a knack for this.
- In Love with Your Carnage: The main reason Sakura is so infatuated with Sasuke is his knack for senseless murder and wanton violence.
- Implacable Man: It doesn't matter what you do Naruto, absolutely nothing phases him. Even when Lee gave him a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown during their match in the Chunin Exam Preliminaries, the most Naruto felt was very slight annoyance.
- Jerkass: Sasuke is a rude and violent asshole to everyone, including his own teammates.
- Know When to Fold 'Em:
- After Zabuza and Haku get captured and tortured by Team 7, Kakashi agrees to let them go after telling him everything they know. They swiftly get the hell out of dodge.
- Kabuto wastes no time in fleeing the country after Orochimaru's death.
- Mighty Glacier: In typical Tonberry-fashion, Naruto crawls like a snail and stings like a freight train.
- More Dakka: Sakura's default response to any challenge.
- Nightmare Fetishist:
- Sakura interprets Gaara's threats to slowly and painfully murder her as flirting. She also thinks he smells nice, when according to Temari, he smells like blood and ruptured entrails.
- Hinata's sole line is dreamily wondering how many people Naruto killed during the Chunin Exams.
- The Noodle Incident: Somehow in the day between meeting Kakashi and the Bell Test, the genin of Team 7 changed from their canon selfs to the monsters they are today. There's even an entire chapter is devoted various characters speculating about what caused this change.
- Only Sane Man: Kakashi's this in the earlier chapters, though this swiftly changes.
- Pirates Who Don't Do Anything: Chapter 6 lampshades the fact that Kakashi never actually teaches Team 7 anything despite being their sensei.
- Playing with Fire: Seeing how Sasuke is an Expy of Iori Yagami, this is a given.
- Sadist: Sasuke is this every sense of the word.
- Spared by the Adaptation: Zabuza and Haku end up surviving after deciding that one encounter with Team 7 was one too many.
- The Speechless: Naruto does not speak at all.
- Terrible Trio: Do you even need to ask?
- Trademark Favorite Food: Ramen will always be Naruto’s favorite food, Empty Shell or not.
- Token Evil Teammate: Sasuke is the only member of the team to lack anything even vaguely resembling a redeeming quality.
- Token Good Teammate:
- Downplayed. Naruto isn't so much the "good" teammate as he is the "least likely to murder on a whim" teammate.
- Kakashi is another downplayed example, as while he’s not as bad as his students, his Sanity Slippage is quickly deteriorating his already shaky morale fiber.
- Would Hurt a Child: Sasuke, to the point that he sees Kankuro's attempt to threaten Konohamaru as amateurish.
- Yank the Dog's Chain: Naruto actually feels a spark of warmth his cold, dead heart when Sakura claims she could never view him as a Sex Slave. It quickly dies out when she finishes by claiming that she views him as a pet instead.
- Zerg Rush: Naruto's preferred method of using Shadow Clones.
